Guestbook comments from the owner

The Yuba River Retreat is incredible! My cousins and I enjoyed a reunion weekend with children of all ages. About 20 people in all and we were completely comfortable. There was not a thing that we had wished was supplied that was not there for us. Beautiful landscaping, easy hike to the river and waterfall, a giant deck overlooking the most beautiful canyon, an area for a safe fire for an evening of building smores and singing camp fire songs, and plenty of space in the home. We did not feel crowded at all. We created wonderful memories at the Yuba River Retreat and look forward to another visit.

Great property - perfect for large family

  • 5 of 5

I stayed with my extended family (12 of us) and it was perfect - lots of bedrooms for privacy but nice communal areas. There are good trails and a fun creek within easy walking distance. We will definitely go again.

Secluded and gorgeous

  • 5 of 5

The house was lovely and clean. The AC helped a lot. The game room was fun at night. The deck was delightful. The trails down to the river from the house were well maintained. Purdon crossing is super close but get there early for parking that's not too far away. Lots of mosquitoes at night so bring spray and citronella candles. If you plan on cooking a whole lot I'd say bring your own extra serving bowls, large knives, chopping blocks. The house has some but if you like to cook a whole lot you may need more. The host was very kind and even dropped by to bring extra dish washer soap. I can't wait to come back! I will never forget this amazing weekend!

Wonderfully large house and property perfect for a big family or group looking to get away!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 14 has spent the last 10 years getting together for a week each summer.

This year we stumbled upon the Yuba Retreat while looking for someplace new to visit in an area we love, the Sierra foothills.

The Retreat was perfect! The house is very large, with plenty of beds and bedrooms, but more importantly, there are multiple “living” areas that make it awesome for people to have plenty of space to do what they want. The kids LOVED the game room and spent hours and hours in there playing pool and ping pong. We brought along a Nintendo Classic and hooked it up to the tv and the adults and teens had a great time playing old school games. Other people relaxed on the many comfy couches and read books, and others worked on puzzles on the huge dining room table. The table is worth mentioning because this is the first place we’ve stayed that could fit our entire group at once.

The beds were very comfortable and clean. There were plenty of bathrooms so no one ever really had to wait for their turn and the downstairs suite, while potentially awkward for some people to have to pass through the bathroom to get to, was another very large area for people to hang out that was away from the hustle and bustle upstairs.

The central air was very much appreciated on those hot summer days. The kitchen was well-stocked and roomy enough to accommodate a large group. We loved having plastic silverware provided.

The property itself is gorgeous! The deck overlooking the canyon was a great hangout spot (as long as the skeeters weren’t out) and the miles of trails were well maintained and nicely graded so that the climb back up wasn’t too difficult for the younger kids or the 82 year old grandmother. A few notes though: there is a ton of poison oak on the property. It lines the trails almost every step of the way and is even growing small shoots on the trail itself. It’s manageable if you know what to look for, so I highly suggest having a talk with the people in your group about what to look for. We spent two days at Rock Creek and loved it! It’s a beautiful, private spot. Beware though, the rocks are slippery, whether wet or dry! We nicknamed it “Slip and Bleed” because a good number of our party had falls and spilled a little blood. Nothing major, but it does require being careful!

All in all it was an amazing trip that provided us with new memories to look back on! Thank you to Alicia for being a great host!

This was a great place for our reunion!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 12 had a fantastic time at the Yuba River Retreat last weekend! The house and property is large enough to accommodate more people, so we had more than ample space to enjoy. We were only there for 3 nights, which was not enough time us to fully explore the grounds, which included many trails and 2 great creek spots to sit under a short waterfall. In addition, there are endless parks and trails within a short drive nearby, and Nevada City is a cute little town that's about a 10-15 minute drive away. The house was well appointed, and we all greatly appreciated the A/C working fantastically on the 90+ degree days. Don't forget to bring your bug spray...we had plenty and we needed it to enjoy the grounds and trails (you are in the forest...the bugs were there first!).

The only thing our group missed having was a hot tub.

My group has had 5 annual reunions, and after each one prior we have discussed where we want to go next year. This is the first year where we are already discussing returning back next year!

Beautiful property away from everyone!

  • 5 of 5

The house passed our expectations! We stayed the weekend after our daughter graduated from Cal State Chico. We're from Southern California, my dad came down from Oregon and my sisters and their families from Santa Cruz. This was the perfect place to meet up and spend some time. Everyone had their own bedroom and the kids kept busy in the playroom. We were able to bbq, cook meals in the kitchen and just hang out. The house has everything you need. We went on a walk to see the beautiful surroundings and made it down to the water. There is nothing I would have done different on this trip. It was perfect. And the family and I look forward to meeting back up here again.
