About Darla Koop

We have lived in Niagara-on-the-Lake for nearly 20 years and love the area - especially all the beautiful historic properties. Peter grew up in nearby Jordan Station, Ontario and Darla is a transplanted American, originally from Kansas.

~ A Tribute to Darla ~

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beautiful wife & soul-mate, and loving mother to our four children, Darla.

Her talent & passion for decorating, and her desire to please our guests with her gracious hospitality has elevated our business to the high standards that it holds today.

It is our intention to carry on her labour of love, upholding these high standards & warm hospitality…..the way Darla would have wanted us to.

We look forward to meeting you at the cottage!

Peter & the kids,

Sam, Cassie, Emily & Josh

Why Darla Koop chose Niagara-on-the-Lake

We have always wanted to own a property in 'Old Town' Niagara-on-the-Lake because we love the architecture of historic houses and the lovely gardens in town.

What makes this cottage unique

We fell in love with this property because of the beautiful landscaping already in place and it's location on a quiet street so close to the lake.

Great cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at this cottage. It is well located, within a few blocks of the lakeside park, the main drag of NOTL with all the shops, restaurants and the Shaw Fest, and even the old fort. There's free parking and you can stash the car and go on foot the whole time. Lots of very attractive homes in the area to look at while you're walking about. NOTL is full of pretty flowers and gardens.

The cottage is pretty much as pictured. While it's not big, it's plenty big enough for a party of four. It is clean and nicely decorated. Lots of newer touches, including the bathroom which was quite nice. I didn't spend much time in the kitchen, but it also seemed nice with newer appliances. There's no dining table, but there is a small wall bar in kitchen with stools.

Overall, everything was great. We would return.

Great Place to Stay

  • 4 of 5

My wife and granddaughter really liked the house. I liked the location. It was conviently located to grocery store, restaurants, main highways and a park located on Lake Erie. Neighborhood was quiet. Kitchen was well equipped. House is well maintained. My wife has a physical handicap so the deep steps front and back made it difficult for her to enter/exit the house. Peter told me he plans to replace the front steps in 2018. We stayed June 26-28, 2017. We would stay again as long as the front steps were replaced.

A great place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

Niagara on the Lake is a wonderful place to visit and this cottage is a wonderful place to stay when doing so. The cottage was everything we could ask for. A complete kitchen, renovated bath, very nice living room and a very comfortable bed. The cottage is surrounded by a lovely yard, with a umbrella covered table where we often sat to eat. There is also a gas grill which we made full use of.

We brought our bikes and stored them in the garage. The area is very flat. We road 25 miles or more every day stopping a winery now and again for a tasting.

The cottage is located just a few blocks from the center of town with all its stores, restaurants and, of course, theaters. Niagara on the Lakes has a neat bookstore with a very eclectic selection of books. You should really check it out.

Sometimes in the evening we sat at park located at the end of the street that overlooks Niagara River and Lake Ontario. Often we could see the lights from Toronto sparkling in the distance as the sun sat.

If we ever plan to visit the Shaw Festival and everything else Niagara on the Lakes has to offer, we would certainly look to see if the cottage is available.

It was a great 10 days. Staying at the cottage was part of what made it great.

Cute little cottage very close to the lake and the town

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for 5 nights and had a lovely time. Plenty to do in the area and in a perfect location.

Only negative would be that the boarded up window at the rear of the property did not give a good first impression but this didn't affect our overall experience.

Hope to return one day.
