About this property
6-Bedroom Masterpiece in the Historic District
Summary:
This is a classic tudor with an art deco interior located in the East Avenues District of Salt Lake City. This home features a small vineyard on the property that is part of Millcreek Estates Winery! Located less than a mile from the center of downtown Salt Lake City, this home is in the perfect location for those who want to be downtown, yet stay in a real house instead of a cramped condo. There is a handmade oak spiral staircase that leads to the huge master en-suite bedroom that takes up the whole top floor. The entire home was just completely restored & renovated and has a modern, open feel while retaining its early 20th century classic appeal. There is free fiber optic ultra high-speed WiFi in the home. Free off-street parking with a level 2 electric car charging station - parking for 3 vehicles total.
The back yard is one of the nicest back yards you will ever step foot in. It has an outdoor theater area with a 120" theater projector, complete with hammocks and hammock chairs to sit in while watching. There is a covered outdoor dining area, an outdoor kitchen area with a sink, refrigerator, and premium built-in grill. There is a gas fire pit with stone seating all around it that sits right next to the small below-ground hot tub that seats 3 people, maybe 4 and has plenty of hammock and bench seating around it, allowing everyone to hang out together. In addition to the covered patio, there are two pergolas and a small private vineyard in the back yard.
The bedroom on the top floor is in a former attic space. It has plenty of headroom, but still, it's in the attic so if you're abnormally tall, maybe pick one of the other 5 bedrooms. The lower floor is technically a basement, but the windows are extra-large egress windows so it doesn't have a basement feel to it. Some of the owner's items are in this home but it is certainly not cluttered.
This home, also referred to as the Blackham Manor, is the premier home in our company and is the house that our company's owner lives in whenever he is in Salt Lake City. It is filled with his own antiques and unique art. There is seating for 12 people in the dining areas.
The fine print: Because of the back yard, this property tends to attract groups that want to throw a party, which is not allowed. Therefore, the minimum age to rent this home is 40 years old. If you do not meet this requirement, please do an inquiry - do not reserve it and then ask for permission, since that looks fishy enough that they answer will probably be "no". Parties of ANY size will not be tolerated at this home and city ordinance limits the number of people on the property to 12, which we will strictly enforce. NO CATS ALLOWED.

The Space:
This is a full-time vacation rental, so it is not cluttered with someone's personal belongings. Since it is our nicest home, the owner of our company uses this home when he occasionally comes to visit Salt Lake City. It is not his primary residence, so it is not cluttered with his personal belongings, but there are a few locked closets in the home.
Our only fees are clearly listed in several places on this listing: There is a a one-time cleaning fee that covers the cleaning that occurs after you check out. Up to 2 dogs are welcome with a pet fee. No cats allowed.
IMPORTANT: In accordance with local vacation rental laws, this house cannot have more than 12 people in it. That includes children and it includes people that come over and are not sleeping there. The next-door neighbor is a county code compliance officer and he will definitely hear the noise and ruin your vacation if you're planning on having more than 16 people on the property. You will be leaving immediately and you will get no refunds. If he takes away our permit, you'll be responsible for the damages to our business.
Guest Access:
Guests will be provided with nearly everything they need: linens, towels, kitchen soap, detergent, laundry machine, hair dryer, iron, etc. Please note that you must coordinate with us if you want to arrive before 4 PM since other guests might be checking out on that same morning that you arrive. When this site says that your check-in time is "flexible", they mean that we can work with you if you request an early check-in; it doesn't mean that you can check in whenever you want and we don't guarantee early check-ins. So please plan on getting our approval for your check-in time. Please request high chairs, pack-n-play cribs, and blow-up beds prior to arrival.
The Neighborhood:
Avenues District
Getting Around:
There is an inexpensive bus system that will take you almost anywhere in the valley and this home is very close to several of the bus stops.
Other Things to Note:
This is a very old house. It is updated and in excellent shape, but it is an old house nonetheless. Do not expect a condo built in 2024.
WE HAVE NO HIDDEN FEES! Our only fees are clearly listed in several places on this listing: There is a a one-time cleaning fee which is clearly listed by this site. Up to 2 dogs are welcome with a pet fee of $99 each, no cats allowed. Any other type of animal needs to be approved ahead of time. Unpaid pets that are brought onto the property without us knowing may result in a higher-than-$99 fee since we may need to pay extra to our cleaning crew because they'll have to do an unscheduled deep cleaning. Federal- or state-certified service animals are welcome onto the property, but since the "pet fee" covers the extra cost of cleaning, service animals are not exempt from this fee under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Emotional support animals are not certified by the federal government or any state in the U.S., and are legally considered pets.
Conventions rates & holidays will override the standard rates shown, even if the convention dates change. Some convention dates are not input yet, and will apply regardless of reservations and inquiries made. Rates fluctuate automatically according to a computer-driven algorithm based on supply & demand. But don't worry, your rates will be locked in at the time you pay for your reservation, so if they go up or down, we will not charge you the difference or give you a refund. So no worries - we'll honor your original rates :-)
We provide one travel crib (pack n' play), one baby high-chair, and one self-inflating deluxe twin bed kit, free of charge. Additional cribs, high-chairs, or beds can be provided, but each additional item may incur an additional cost. A baby stroller can be provided free of charge but we don't usually keep those at the house, so please request that ahead of time. Additional items that are requested ahead of time are almost always guaranteed, but any last-minute requests are not guaranteed.
IMPORTANT: In accordance with local vacation rental laws, this house cannot have more than 16 people in it. That includes children. Check-in times must be coordinated prior to arrival to guarantee an exact check-in time.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

The host was more than accommodating and a great communicator with us, went out of his way to make our stay in SLC smooth and stress free. The house was very clean, stocked with everything you could ever need in a house away from home including items to accommodate our infant, very quiet neighborhood.
Our host was very responsive, before, during and after our stay. The outdoor setting was beautiful and the house was located conveniently close to many of Salt Lake's favorite hot spots.

Thanks so much for letting me host you! You said that the home was "absolutely perfect" in the note you left on the kitchen counter. Is there anything I could've done to have earned a fifth star? If not, that's fine I guess. Some people never ever give out five stars no matter how nice a place is and I guess that's their prerogative. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We'd love to host you again someday!
Highest recommendation! Located in the great, welcoming area of the Avenues, this beautifully-crafted home has everything one needs for a delightful stay, and more: ample space among 3 levels; fully-appointed kitchen & home; very comfy furniture & bedding; a backyard maximized for outdoor relaxation (hot tub, fire pit, spacious dining, media); it's a quick walk to the lovely neighborhood Cucina Wine Bar & café-restaurant; groceries, liquor store, FedEx/Kinkos, other cafés, the University and U. hospital complex, and downtown area are a short drive away. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this rental, which felt much more like a home than a rental.Plus, easy and efficient communication with the friendly manager.
We enjoyed our stay. The house worked well for our family. There was always plenty of hot water for everyone which is important when coming back after a day of skiing.

Thank you so much for the kind review. We really try hard to make our guests’ stays as perfect as possible, and we’re glad you enjoyed yours. Let us know next time you’re in town and we’ll get you a discount on your stay!
7 of my friends and I flew in for a high school reunion and staying together in this house was a mini-reunion beyond our best imagination. From the moment I booked, Daniel touched base to attend to any anticipated needs or requests. Communication was clear and he was super responsive and helpful. The space is wonderful. Strolling through the vines in the backyard, you feel like you are in Italy or France, not SLC. It's so peaceful and private as well. The house - beautiful old craftsman touches to the wood, they do not make houses with skilled woodworking and artistry anymore. The art, sculptures and rock fossils were carefully curated and of great value and consideration. We had 2 artists in our group and I am a rockhound! Speaking of which, the countertop in the kitchen - beautiful. I don't think it was alabaster - very unusual. Temperatures were high - we were in an unusual heatwave and Daniel checked in daily to make sure temperatures were cool and we were comfortable. Lastly, the house is big and I accidentally left some jewelry, so he went above and beyond and sent it to me right away. I can't recommend this house enough and we will for sure be back!

About the host
Hosted by Daniel Alix
We are not a huge company that will treat you like a number. We are a small, family-run business and we take pride in our guest's comfort and satisfaction. We will try everything within reason to make our guests feel like they are at home in our vacation rentals. Our listings are up-front and honest, and we have no hidden fees whatsoever (this is rare in our industry). We have an abnormally-high amount of return guests, which is a testament to how well we take care of our homes and our customers. If anything about your stay isn't exactly as you want it, we're available 24 hours a day and we live nearby.
We can provide one travel crib (pack n' play), one baby high-chair, and one self-inflating twin bed kit, on request free of charge. Additional cribs, high-chairs, or beds can be provided, but each additional item will cost $25 per stay. A baby stroller can be provided free of charge. Please request these additional items ahead of time in order to guarantee their availability, as any last-minute requests are not guaranteed.
