About Cordelia Mcintosh

Coal Point consists of a private peninsula, connected by a footbridge to a small island named after our eldest son. It has been a home-away-from-home for many international visitors over the years. I am trilingual (English, German and some French). I love sharing the natural beauty of this area with my guests, and all it has to offer. Our family is committed to preserving the natural beauty of this unique property for the next generation.

Cordelia Mcintosh purchased this cottage in 1958

Why Cordelia Mcintosh chose North Saanich

Our cottage has been in the family for 3 generations. Visitors always remark on how special this property is. It has inspired both artists and writers. It is truly a refuge in every sense. We feel privileged to observe wildlife in its natural setting from our home on a daily basis. Seasonal changes attract different wildlife, and offer exceptional and varied viewing experiences year-round.

What makes this cottage unique

360 degree views. Steps from the beach. Exclusive access to private island. Hot tub overlooks the sights and sounds of beautiful Saanich Inlet. Listen to the seagulls call, the sea lions bark, the waves rolling into shore. Relax in the hammock under our grove of Oak trees. Storm watch during winter months. Snorkel/dive and enjoy abundant sea creatures. Spring herring run makes the ocean come alive with wildlife. Amazing sunsets. Tidal pools. Summer bioluminescence! A 'foodies' delight!...Enjoy visits to a local organic farm stand, winery or fresh fish market in Sidney. Close to amenities, ferry, airport. Near Lochside Trail and Galloping Goose cycle paths.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear McIntosh family,

Thank you again for your wonderful hospitality. I have lived in Canada for over 10 years, I have travelled from coast to coast; and yet I have never met anyone as loving and as hospitable as you. Your home is made up of a unique combination of beauty, love, warmth and hospitality. We always enjoy coming back here- It's our home, so far away from home. Thank you, and may God bless you like you bless us all the time.

A magical place

  • 5 of 5

We just left Coal Point Cottage after a week of watching sunsets, wild life ( bald eagles, seals, deer, song birds) and listening to the sounds of the tide coming in and going out.

The cottage was cozy and very clean. The bedroom had an exceptional comfortable bed with large windows to enhance the water views.

The bathroom was equipped with a lovely tub, walk in shower and to our great delight a TOTO toilet. To cap it all, the hosts, Cordelia and John, aimed to please, which explains why they have so many repeat visitors.

Magical Piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

When we first arrived and saw where we were going to be staying, we were elated! The pictures just don't do it justice. The cottage is beautiful and quaint and nicely set up. The location is perfect for being away from the hustle and bustle but still able to get around to great places to explore. Cordelia even had some food and drink essentials stocked in the fridge in case we hadn't gone by the store. Talk about being a fabulous host! We drank coffee on the front deck right over the water. We used the hot tub each night which is situated overlooking the water. The moonlight was shining on the water and there was a soft breeze rustling the leaves in the trees. We heard the sound of geese quacking as they swam by in the dark and the sound of air exhales from either a pod of whales or sea lions passing. It was such a relaxing, beautiful experience and we felt so lucky to have found such a great property. All of our cares just melted away. We also got to rescue a hummingbird that had hit the window. It recovered in my hand and as it flew away, it stopped and hovered and looked back at me as if to say thank you. Amazing experience!

Cordelia sent us an email daily on what to see and where to eat and her suggestions were spot on! We loved that she took the time to ensure our stay was perfect.

I highly recommend this place for a wonderful getaway to visit this beautiful part of the world. We hope to come back soon. Thanks, Cordelia!! You are a fabulous host!!

So close, but so far away

  • 5 of 5

So close to civilization, but you will forget it is out there. Tranquil and scenic, it would be impossible not to relax here. Hard to believe you are only a few moments away from Sidney or Victoria. The cabin is lovely, the views indescribable, the wildlife abundant and the hosts gracious. You could not ask for more.

Location, Location, Location...

  • 5 of 5’s what is said when buying a home but I would extend that to include vacation rentals too!

We loved waking up to the water views. And, the fact that it’s forested too makes for tranquility. Love the soaker tub inside the cabin and the hot tub at the edge of the property.

Cordelia and John are lovely people and so welcoming. It’s apparent they want their guests to enjoy the stay. We send them our thanks for the great advice on where to go and for their hospitality.

We enjoyed many hikes through beautiful surroundings; both ocean and forested. You can choose to be as active or as leisurely as you wish. Sure hope we have the opportunity to return.

This place is unbelievable. Take our word for it. The owners are perfect hosts and very helpful with sight seeing ideas and advice on places to go and where to eat. Very easy access from the ferry in Sidney. This location is great. It is quiet and serene. However, it is also very easy to drive to Victoria for sight seeing that you might want to do there too. The cottage is quaint with a gorgeous deck overlooking the ocean. You are on the peninsula with your own private piece of heaven. Laurie
