Property description

Casita means “small house” in Spanish and that aptly describes this property. It is located centrally in the retirement community of Green Valley just west of Desert Hills Golf Course and just east of the Desert Hills Recreation Center. Triple sliding glass doors in the living room provide spectacular views of the Santa Rita Mountains as well as access to the large partially covered patio where you will find chairs, tables and a barbeque grill. While the casita is just short of 600 square feet, the open floor plan, high ceilings and multiple skylights give the interior a bright and airy feeling.

Green Valley averages 300 days of sunshine per year and even in January the average daytime temperature is 67 degrees. Once the sun comes up on a winter morning, the temperature rises quickly in the dry desert air. Many of the trees and plants remain green throughout the winter. This climate is conducive to outdoor activity especially hiking, biking and golf. Nearly all the major streets in Green Valley have bicycle lanes. If you play golf, Green Valley has numerous golf courses and a 30 minute drive to Tucson will provide access to even more courses. A short trip to Madera Canyon in the Santa Rita Mountains provides hiking trails, picnic grounds as well as an outstanding location for bird watching.

The owners of this property are members of Green Valley Recreation and for a small fee, tenants have access to all thirteen recreation centers located throughout Green Valley. The recreation centers provide swimming, tennis, fitness centers, bocce, shuffleboard, billiards, sand volleyball, racquetball, saunas, horseshoes as well as clubs for ceramics, photography, lapidary, computers and other interests. Some of the centers have auditoriums for lectures, movies and other entertainment. There is nearly always something going on somewhere in Green Valley.

You can always take drive into the desert to see the unique vegetation that only grows in the Sonoran Desert. A trip to the Desert Museum in Tucson is a must and you will find it isn’t so much a museum as a facility devoted to displays of native wildlife, plants and trees. The guys may want to tour the Titan Missile Museum in Green Valley and the Pima Air Museum in Tucson. Many other activities are available in Tucson as well.

A twenty minute drive to the south on Interstate 19 will take you to Tubac, an old Spanish settlement that has been transformed into an artists community with studios, galleries and many shops. Another fifteen minutes south will take you to the international boarder in Nogales. A drive to the southeast of Green Valley will take you to a higher elevation where grapes grow well and wineries abound. This will give you an opportunity to sample a variety of Southern Arizona wines.

We hope you will come and stay at our casita. We think you will find Green Valley and the surrounding desert an enchanting place.
