We love our lake home. We would like to share it with anyone interested in seeing the area. We are from the Mankato area--farming country, and enjoy swimming, canoeing and boating in clean lakes, walking and riding bikes on the Cuyuna trail, and the communities of Deerwood and Crosby.
Margaret Rengstorf purchased this house in 2011
Serpent Lake borders the two small towns of Deerwood and Crosby. There is so much to do!
We fell in love with the views from the living rooms, both up and downstairs, the peaceful porch, and the fun lake!
This is the third time we have rented this property from these owners, and have enjoyed it every time. The house has everything you need for a fun and relaxing stay. The view is beautiful and the sand beach is just awesome. We will go again.
We come to enjoy the mountain bike trails at Cuyunna State Park several times per year and this is the first time renting this home. We really enjoyed the space, the views, the use of the bbq and fully equipped kitchen. The bird feeders would have kept us captivated themselves if we hadn't gone mountain bike riding. We saw several varieties that we don't see in Manitoba. The fall colours were wonderful and we really enjoyed the weekend.
The only disappointment was that the owner did not provide the contract until we were already in Deerwood and the home does not have internet service so we were not able to view it until Monday when we accessed internet service again. Suggest providing this in advance.
We have been vacationing in Minnesota for several years with out kids and grandkids but since the resort we had gone to for years was sold, we have been unsuccessfully looking for a new resort. This year we decided to try a privately owned house and couldn't have been more pleased. You first drive in and there is a yard and private dock. The kids played badminton and bags every night and had room to move.
Then you walk in the house and there is so much room and it felt like home. You walk into a large living/diningroom area with a table to seat 8. All the bedrooms have storage and plenty of room to move and spread out especially the master bedroom. There is a full length of the house 3 season room with a table and chairs. And then you go to the basement and have a large family room with fireplace (when needed). Bonus was all of the extras supplied with the house including plenty of towels and a garage.
The owners are also particular about the cleaning so everything was well kept but like I said earlier, you still felt at home and not worried you had to worry about touching things or tracking a little sand in.
We would highly recommend the rental of this property. There are steps for every entrance though so not for handicap.
This was a very nice cabin to stay in for the winter. It was very cozy and plenty of room for guests. it had lots of space for things especially traveling in the winter time. We went for snowmobiling & with hauling a lot of luggage it was perfect. it was excellent coming in from outside and warming up by the fireplace. It had a great lake and awesome trails to catch right away. It would be great to see in the summer time as well! I would recommend this place during the winter for sure!
This was a wonderful place on the lake. The owner was excellent to deal with and answered all my questions and called while I was there to see how things were going. The water was clean and home and yard were well taken care of. The description of the home and amenities was accurate. The photos in the listing were true. Plenty of space for sleeping and a wonderful big porch with windows overlooking the lake. I could bring my dog and that was a plus. Nice walking around part of the lake and also could walk into the town of Deerwood. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone. It is close to many lakes and other activities. Crosby is 4 miles away and things to do there. I would rent again.
This year round home is on the east side of Serpent Lake. There is so much to do in this area! You will love it because it is just a 2 hour drive from the cities. Beautiful golf courses (Ruttger's Bay Lodge and golf course is 6.7 miles away), several nearby restaurants (Coach's Sports Bar with fantastic food is 1 mile away). The towns of Deerwood and Crosby are both near this lake. Crosby has so many antique shops and also is home to Heartland Cafe--with the best breakfasts around! ); 15 minutes from Brainerd; 10 minutes from Aitkin. The Cuyuna State Recreation Area is only 10 miles away and offers a 6 mile trail and lakes area that offers Biking, Mountain Biking, In-Line Skating (or Roller Blading), Running, Walking, Skiing, Hiking, Geo-Caching, Hunting and Fishing. Visit their website! In the winter, you can enjoy the fireplace in the walkout basement after snowmobiling, skiing, or ice-fishing--or just catch up on your reading!
