Fully Furnished Cottage With BBQ And Pool - pet considered

Bedrooms 1
Space 700 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, extra air mattress, appointed Cottage With Large Yard

Outside The Cottage:

Wonderfully large, private backyard with hot tub, water feature, palapa, fire pit and lots of places to relax.

Comfortable and cute, the cottage comes fully furnished: kitchen with Dansk dishes, silverware, cooking knives, Kitchen Aid Mixer, Cuisinart, blender, Kerrigan style coffee maker, With pods provided, pots, pans, mixing bowls...gas stove; whatever you may need, it should be there. Extra rolls of paper towels and new sponges are provided as are any cleaning supplies you may need. Dish soap and liquid hand soap are also stocked.

The wall unit is for air conditioning and heat is by space heaters. There is a ceiling fan in the living room and bedroom plus portable fans for additional air circulation in the summer time.

Handmade quilts by my mother grace the bed and sofa. Soaps, towels, razors, hand lotion, puzzle books and pencils are stashed in the bathroom along with extra t.p. and Kleenex.

There is also a stacked washer/dryer with laundry soap provided, built-in ironing board (I know, who irons?), iron, spray starch, queen sized bed (additional inflatable bed)… dog treats. I provide snacks, drinks, bread, eggs, and seasonal fruit upon your arrival, and am also happy to pick up specific items you may want. There is also coffee, tea, and coca, mix for hot drinks.

The 50” T.V. with sound bar has basic cable, Netflix, commercial free Hulu plus, and Amazon. There is also a DVD and VCR player if you care to bring your own tapes. The amazon box for the Netflix/Hulu options has the HDMI cord, which you can plug into your laptop if you want to stream from that. And, yes, that would mean there is WIFI! I know I can’t live without my computer, and I wouldn’t expect you to live without yours either! There is also a pretty nice stereo in the living room with CD, cassette and AM/FM. I didn’t think the CD part worked, but one of the guests said it did… I keep forgetting to test it… so it might. But the FM/cassette is great for sure!

The area is well-lit at night, and there are tiki torches you can also light if there is little to no breeze.

Your large covered deck looks out onto the digging grounds for my dachshunds. My hope is that someday they will actually catch a gopher! The garden is also here and guests may helps themselves to whatever is ripe.

Competing for your attention will be Bean, Mem (short for Agamemnon), and Obi-Wan. They are particularly fond of the treats in the cottage. Feed them, they’re yours! Doesn’t work with Bean – my oldest - he’s all about the ball – but if you throw his ball in the pool on a hot day - that will be treat-like enough!

If you are bringing a dog (25 lbs or less only), we will work out a system to have yours out and mine in and visa versa. This works well, and during the week mine are used to their outdoor kennel which is where they stay. If you have to leave your dog in the cottage please crate your dog and limit your time away to no more than 4 hours. Also, Chico has fleas, so make sure your dog has been treated for fleas before arrival. If you forget, I have extra - please notify me and we will get him/her treated.

The heart of Chico is our downtown and it is a mere 5 minutes drive from the Cottage (exactly one-mile). Chico State is also very close and is easier to visit by foot or by bike. The area where I live fronts Big Chico Creek and is a haven for walking, jogging, and biking.

With the addition of instant booking the check-in and check-out times are not always flexible. If no one is scheduled to check in the cottage the day you leave, then you can leave as late as you like, however, if someone is coming in, then check out will be 11 a.m., however, you can store your belongings in the main house for as long as you like.

No maid service unless prearranged.

Thank you for taking the time to read this rather lengthy description…peace, love, and wiener dogs,

Darcy & Steve

About Darcy Davis Tully

I have lived in Chico since 1978 when I first attended Chico State. I love our town and the wonderful activity and diversity the University brings. I have 4 weiner dogs...they're a wonderful breed albeit a tad noisy at times...but they are great company and provide an excellent warning system! If you stay with us, you must like dogs, as three of them are very affectionate and will want to give you kisses!

Chico is a great place to experience small town life with big city choices. There's also a lot of recreational opportunities in the area, beginning with Bidwell Park...just 2 miles from my home.

Darcy Davis Tully purchased this cottage in 1992

Why Darcy Davis Tully chose Chico

I love this part of town because it is old Chico. The Oak trees are enormous, there are chickens in the alley and the location is close to town and the park.

What makes this cottage unique

Bidwell Ave. is basically a one-lane street with lots of foot traffic and the occasional biker. Big Chico creek runs along the Avenue (approx. 3 miles long), and adds much beauty to this unique side of town.

A wonderful retreat with easy access to CSU and downtown, filled with thoughtful amenities.

  • 5 of 5

Our 4-night stay at Darcy and Steve's Cottage by the Creek was comfortable, convenient and relaxing. The cottage is spacious yet cozy and located close to both the Chico State campus and downtown shops and businesses. Darcy and Steve were gracious hosts and have created what we referred to as a Shangri-La, filed with flowering plants, a babbling brook, multiple spots to rest and retreat in their beautiful yard, and a fully equipped cottage with an assortment of thoughtful touches and amenities above and beyond what one normally expects in a typical VRBO.

Beautiful relaxing property

  • 5 of 5

This cottage has a wonderful vibe. The grounds are peaceful and relaxing, and the cottage has just the right amount of everything. We loved the water feature outside the cottage window and the relaxing sounds it makes while you enjoy a fresh cup of coffee in the morning. Darcy and Steve have thought of everything. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We would do it again in a heartbeat.

Home away from home.

  • 5 of 5

This lovely couple has done an outstanding job of thinking of everything you need to make your stay comfortable and cozy. From nibbles, (even bread and eggs), drinks, high end bedding with quilts made by her very own mother, and doggie treats which my little doggie Olive, was only too happy to discover! Lol. I would like to keep this little gem all to myself, but that would be selfish. It needs to be shared by people who appreciate kind, hard-working and gracious hosts. Thank you so much Darcy and Steve for a wonderful stay!!!

Very comfortable, great customer service and communication.

We had a very pleasant stay. The cottage was stocked with essentials and snacks, it was very clean and comfortable. Our hosts were great, easily accessible when needed and we noticed after a crazy night of wind, were working hard to have the yard cleaned up and back in shape. We would definitely recommend and will stay there again. The only thing that could make the cottage even better, would be a king sized bed ;)

"Wonderfully Comfortable"

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a wonderful three day stay at Darcy and Steve's cottage out back of the swimming pool. The cottage was exactly what we wanted, a feel of home when not in our own home. Darcy and Steve made us feel very welcome and comfortable thru our stay. Excellent location for visiting Chico area. Highly recommend (except when we want to come back).

The Cottage by the Creek is within walking distance to the Chico State baseball fields and graduation ceremonies and is exactly one mile to town (and 1-1/2 miles from Bidwell Park). The neighborhood is quiet and a mecca for biking and walking. Bidwell Avenue is fronted by Big Chico Creek.

The Saturday Farmer's market is a year-round event and a must do for all visitors. During the summer months there is also a Thursday night farmer's market downtown with added vendors for dinner.

Our downtown does not have a bad restaurant! We have all types of food, and a restaurant that isn't good will not last a month, so they are all fantastic!

Sierra Nevada Brewery is another popular attraction and is only a little further from town - probably 3 miles from the Cottage.

There are many wineries in the area and there is a special two-day tour of all of them sometime in April.

The Cottage has magazines, maps, and brochures depicting these attractions and more!
