Generously Sized And Comfortable 3 Bedroom, 2 Bath Home
We made many upgrades for the 2017 season including new flooring, walls, and furniture. This lovely three-bedroom, two-bath home is situated on the shore of Spider Lake, which is excellent for fishing, water skiing, swimming, and other water sports. This large home sleeps six or more and has lake views from the living room, dining room, family room and two of the bedrooms. The home has a king bed, a queen bed, and a full bed, and is furnished with many conveniences including laundry, microwave, coffee maker, ice maker, gas fireplace, three TVs, DVD player, and clean linens. Outside you will find extensive decking, your own dock, rowboat, oars, life preservers, gas grill, outdoor furniture, and a firepit.

About Susan VanKersen
We didn't know each other then, but we (George and Susan) both came to up north to Spider Lake as kids during the summer, and we both moved permanently to Traverse City as young adults the first chance we got (a long time ago). We love this lake and are happy to call it home. We own and operate a restaurant/bar just down the road called Peegeo's which is in its 34th year.
Why Susan VanKersen chose Traverse City
We take pride in our property. It is well maintained, sparkling clean, and very comfortable. Whether you want to fish, ski, golf, hike, swim, gamble, ride a horse, shop, or just kick back on the deck with a glass of local wine and a good book, this property is situated in the right place. The property has over 100' of private frontage on Spider Lake and its own dock, along with a deck right at the water's edge.

Excellant location on Spider Lake - 15 min to Traverse. Very nice with lots of space for families.
We absolutely loved our stay. We had a family of 3 couples and 2 dogs; there was plenty of space so that people weren't cramped. The kitchen had everything that you could need including 2 refrigerators for extra food/beverages. There was seating for 6 at the high top table in the kitchen and also in the dining room and on the deck. The 2 common rooms had plenty of furniture and a tv in each and were very attractive with great views of the lake. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 baths (which were a little dated - however clean and functional). We loved being on the cove and used our kayaks to explore. There is a dock from which we were able to fish, and a fire pit that was stocked with wood. We loved the house and look forward to coming back!
First time back to Spider Lake in over 12 years, previously stayed at a couple of resorts on the lake but decided this year to try a private rental. Could not have picked a better one, clean and spacious. The room setup is nice with the 2 smaller bedrooms sharing a bathroom with the main bedroom having a bathroom across the hall on the opposite side of the cottage. The cove it is located on is small enough the it is a no wake cove and therefore very quiet but located right next to the exit to the main part of the lake.
There are 2 awesome decks, one located up by the cottage the other down closer to the water. We did a lot of fishing and the deck down by the water was nice for keeping gear and tackle close to the boat.
The owners also allowed us to rent their pontoon boat for just 2 days since we did not want it for the whole week.
Can't wait to go back...wish we could have stayed longer!!
We have been here twice, will be back again. We could not make it this year due to other plans :( it is very close to traverse city but far enough away to get out of the city life. You must rent the pontoon and stroll the lake, stop at one of the beaches and enjoy the day! The owners are super nice and very accommodating! Stop in at Pegio's for some wings or pizza. Best around hands down!! Golfing is all around, which is one reason we head there. Also the wineries!! So much to do
We were really disappointed with the cleanliness of the home. When we arrived there was a note from the owner telling us there was a mouse and they had set a couple of traps under the sink. The mouse was caught that night, and removed, but the next morning there was mouse poop in the pantry and when I told the owner she said she'd be over in awhile with another trap. She only had one trap to set. Another mouse was caught and removed that night. No one offered to clean up the mouse poop, so we had to do it. We only had two overhead cupboards to store food in so the mice wouldn't get into it. We found mouse droppings in the silverware drawer and had to wash everything before we could use it. There were cobwebs and spiders throughout the home and the entire place had a musty smell.
We certainly agree it was unfortunate that the arrival of this pair of mice coincided with the arrival of these guests. Profuse apologies were made, immediate action was taken, and the mice were eliminated. Although critters are a fact of life when you live in the woods, we have never had this happen in our vacation home and of course hope to never have it happen again.
Equally disappointing are the rest of the comments. We have rented out this home for twelve years, and have literally NEVER had any negative feedback. I receive so many wonderful comments and notes from people as to how pleasantly surprised they are with the cleanliness of the home, and that it’s evident we make every effort to make our guests comfortable.
My family and I rented this home in early July. We had an AWESOME week! The house looked exactly as it did in the photos - very clean and well cared for.
We were there during Cherry Festival - so much to see and do - although Traverse City and the surrounding areas always offer so much for everyone! Just as wonderful to relax on the deck each morning and every night!!
Would definitely rent this home again :)
Birch Cove on Spider Lake - Very Nice Property Close to the Lake!
We rented Birch Cove for only 2 nights (July 3rd and July 4th, 2014) and enjoyed our stay here on Spider Lake. We fished from the row boat and caught over a dozen Blue Gill and a few Bass in about 1.5 hours. This lake is real nice for canoe or boating.
We spent time in Traverse City to see the Fireworks on Fridday the 4th of July and the Air Show on Saturday.
We had a nice beach bonfire, and purchased wood just up the entry road within walking distance for the bonfire.
The house was very clean and the property was very neat. We really enjoyed the proximity of the house to Spider lake and the great view of the lake from the Master Bedroom.
Susan was very accommodating in that she agreed to let us stays for only 2 nights when the property was actually available for 3 nights. This was on a very busy 4th of July week and she had rented the property for the 1st half of the week and let us stay for 2 of the remaining 3 nights. Thank you Susan!
We plan to stay here again.
The property is on Spider Lake, 10 miles southeast of Traverse City in the beautiful forest lakes area. Day trips may include the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes in Empire, Michigan; Old Mission peninsula and lighthouse; downtown Traverse City including the Clinch Park Marina and many parks; or one of our local orchards or wineries. Surrounding Traverse City are many quaint towns for shopping or sightseeing, including Leland, Suttons Bay, Elk Rapids, and Northport. If you enjoy gambling, Leelanau Sands Casino is a 45 minute drive, and Turtle Creek Casino is a 25 minute drive. There are numerous excellent golf courses in the area. Local maps and tourism information will be available upon your arrival.
