Why Nancy Woodman chose Puget Sound North

The property is a quiet, peaceful, sunny location on an acre of land, close to naure. It feels like going back in time.

What makes this cottage unique

The 1930's cottage reminded me of a place on an island where I grew up and fell in love with nature. A lot of love has gone into the cottage by its various owners through the years and I definately feel it when I step inside. If I'd had a stressful day and go to the cottage, a peacefulnesss washes over me. The details are charming. Outside, the old growth fir, view of the ocean, gentle breezes, lush greenery sooth my spirit.

WHAT A DARLING SECRET HIDE-away. We were "over the moon" when we opened the front door. The decor made us feel as if we were in a storybook. We were delighted to have the opportunity to experience the magic of Foxbrier and to explore Poulsbo.

Nancy is a very thoughtful host and the accommodations are extremely comfortable.

Perfect NW family retreat for myself, son & daughter!

  • 5 of 5

We loved all the special touches provided by Nan throughout the cottage inside & out : fresh flowers that lasted all week, shells along windowsills, quaint rowboat window boxes w/oars, composting container which was used every day, recycling box provided (I am obsessive recycler @ home), whimsical & majestic artworks by Nan herself in cleverly placed locations, beautiful quilted beddings, wide array of books in loft area and wonderful Trader Joe's coffee beans complete w/grinder to name just a few! Nan thought of everything to make sure our stay was idyllic... she surpassed our expectations!

SPIDERS

  • 1 of 5

As charming as this cottage appeared and as lovely as the owner sounds, DON'T LET IT FOOL YOU. Reserved for the week, three days prior to check in. I bypassed this website avoiding fees and paid a different way at her request. Online this was a cute cottage with a nice large yard which appears backed up to the water. She insisted meeting us there to get the keys and go over the "house rules". She expected us to take off shoes at the door, asked if we would compost food showing us where to take it, asked us to recycle as it was state law, said she would be back the next day to mow. She had sticky notes everywhere, one saying she would be back daily to get our trash, another asked us not to use anything that has a scent as she uses all hypoallergenic products for any kind of cleaning. All unexpected but respectable wishes. That said we were on vacation with our boys for baseball... we just wanted to relax and not have to excessively worry about being on our toes each time we entered the house. This lady even wanted to know which room our boys were sleeping. Strange but we weren’t sure. Took the keys and left for a bit. We were physically in the house 3 hrs tops.. bringing things in, putting our stuff away, running errands, exploring and so on. The min we had a chance to sit we noticed a spider on the wall, then kids saw another. It was then when we realized that there was a spider infestation and packed up immediately, wiped things down and left. They were on walls, doorways, in the wood lined ceiling, between seating areas, behind beds... I returned the key at 6, showing her the pics. Her only resolution was to remove the spider and place it back outside. I told her there were a bunch of them and that was unacceptable. There was no chance I would put ourselves in danger with the spider problem she clearly had. She refuses to refund the week rent and cashed my DAMAGE deposit, never stating there were damages. She falsified pictures of a small pile of dirt in kitchen as well as the bed she said was used. We placed our suitcases, bags and blankets on the beds and floors when we arrived. She sent a picture of few items we placed in her little cardboard box designated for recycles as well as a couple of pictures of the carpeting showing one light colored, thumb sized mark claiming it's a stain and was unable to remove and needs to have it professionally cleaned. This lady is a thief and if very dishonest. I would not suggest this cottage to anyone.

Owner's Response: Sadly, Marie is not giving an accurate description. The cottage is not infested with spiders. She admitted her 18 year old son has a spider phobia. I requested we meet inside so she could point them out. She refused, instead shared hard to discern images, a spider inside, pictures outside. The "house spider" (like a small daddy longlegs), was relocated. In rural NW having a harmless spider show up in anyone's house is a way of life. While we are sympathetic toward those who have an extreme spider fear, this should have been discussed prior to the visit and is not a reason to break an agreement of "no refunds for early departure”. Marie had the keys for 6 hours and did not call to say there was a problem, but had a sister from AZ call, who also stated Marie's party had an invite to stay with other team members, so wanted out of the contract.  The no shoes policy was discussed before booking and it is written on the VRBO site. Recycling is mandatory in the county. Composting optional. Photos were taken minutes after Marie’s departure were not manipulated, and sent to her directly via phone. They verified the cottage had to be cleaned and showed carpet stains. 11:30am check-in was requested so everyone could nap. To accommodate, grass scheduled to be cut that morning was rescheduled. Garbage pick-up as needed. 3 sticky notes. The question of where the boys wanted to sleep was so the trundle bed would be ready. Fresh bouquets were for the “mom rooms”. We go to great lengths to provide a beautiful, peaceful and healing retreat for our guests. We are upfront with cancellation policies to which all guests must agree. Marie booked 5 days, not a week, as so stated. We offered her a payment of 1/2 of the remaining 4 days. She said she would stop Paypal and damage deposit payments. The check was cashed because of the carpet stains, which require professional cleaning and money will be refunded after the Paypal dispute is settled.  Marie has sent threatening letters, personal assaults and attempts to discuss the situation has been met with closed ears. In 13 years of running the cottage, nothing like this has ever happened; no spider complaints. The cottage was occupied the day before Marie's group arrived, with glowing comments in the guest book, and a promise to return. A realtor came the night before, to inspect and assess the worth of the cottage -- she looked at it very closely and has attested to the fact in is very clean and does not have a spider infestation.

Incredible Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My big sister got married this last weekend at Red Cedar Farm just down the road from this beautiful cottage Pictures do no justice of how beautiful, calm and quiet this getaway home is. We stayed for three nights and were madly in love. I recommend this house for anyone going to visit Poulsbo. Nan, is as sweet in person as she is over the phone. Thank you, for making our stay so wonderful. We definitely will be back to stay again :)
