About Owner/Manager Glenda Duell
My name is Glenda and I grew up in the Town of Thurman where this house is located. I graduated from the local Warrensburg Central School and other than college time, have lived here all my life. Have visited other places, but I love life and the mountains here.
Owner/Manager Glenda Duell purchased this House in 2006
Why Owner/Manager Glenda Duell chose Athol
I live just a few miles from this house and we decided to buy it because we considered it a great investment. The property was close to town and the house needed some TLC. We gave it that and more. We thoroughly enjoyed working and upgrading the house to it's present condition.
What makes this House unique
This property has a quiet brook running through the back of the property. Trout fishing, too! we have just installed a wonderful inground swimming pool. Please consider reading the positive'reviews' at our other vacation rental at vrbo# 300732 and know that we strive for the same great service here.

The amazingly spacious home is definitely "Rustic" . The decor is rustic overload. That being said, it is very spacious. The beds were comfortable with clean linens! Plenty of towels were supplied! The pool was great, but could have really used a vacuuming mid way through our stay, which we would have done if it were available.(Since I didn't say anything to Glenda, she had no idea. I'm sure she would have taken care of it if I mentioned it) Overall it was a very nice place to stay. I would recommend it.
The house is great, could use a little updating in the rooms. It’s great for a group of people!
When we got to the house and we were shocked with how many places you could sleep in the house. The house could use a little updating, but it’s a nice place to stay if you’re in and out of the house during your stay. We were provided with a lot of towels which was awesome for the pool. We had a big group of us that stayed in the house and it worked out great. We hung out on the outer deck of the house, which had a lot of seats to sit around the table. The pool was perfect temperature as well. I highly recommend staying here if you’re wanting a weekend away. The yard is very big as well. The house is better than it looks in the pictures.
Nice and secluded
Good for 3-4 families. Except for the fact that hot water was not available (probably due to some boiler issue), everything was fine.
Thanks so much for the overall good review. I do recall that we were called and a switch had been turned off. Our maintenance man responded and it was back on shortly.
Glends, the owner, could not have been more helpful! 2 days before arriving I sent an inquiry as to how many refrigerators she had. I needed one for the wedding cake. Otherwise we would have had all our food in coolers. Glenda had a fridge delivered to the porch for us! I couldn't believe it! I would definitely book with her again. Especially anyone using Burlap and Beams as a venue. The house was definitely perfect for the bridesmaids. We used the downstairs to do all the up dos. Lots of space. Pool table. Just perfect for us!
So happy things went well and thanks so much for letting us know. It means a lot to our hard working staff. Many happy memories with the wedding! Glenda
this house needs some love
Pros: Lake George is beautiful, Glenda was nice, kids loved the pool, everyone liked having bonfires together at night, house is within driving distance to lots of attractions, everyone had fun playing pool (pool table could use a few new sticks though)
Cons: house smelled musty and stale, house needs lots of TLC, no keys were left for us upon arrival (which Glenda quickly took care of), refrigerator was not working because freezer needed to be defrosted upon arrival (which we did ourselves), housekeeping (wait what housekeeping, not sure why I was charged for this), there was no hot water....ever (and then we realized that if we turned the dial to cold we got hot water, lol).
Once we cleaned up the house and aired it out it was fine. Our family had a great time in LG. Hope this review helps potential renters.
Property needs refurbishing. And actually wasn't big enough for our group with 6 small children
We had a great time, many +s about house - pool, fire pit, parking, garbage & recycle removal was fantastic, hospitality basket was very sweet, house was very clean, Echo Lake was great,
BUT hot water ran out constantly, no plug for tub in lower bath with small children made bath time challenging, kitchen too small to eat together, cooking utensils not really usable - in bad shape, no space to put our food in cabinets, not much room to move around in living room,
Would need large home for future trip which of course is my fault.
I have spoken to the maintenance people about the tub plug and one is now there. It was overlooked but had we known we could have had one there for you as well. We'll also take a closer look to see about purchasing more cooking utensils. This is the first complaint about not enough hot water. Many hot water heaters have dual elements and if only 1 is not working it can cause this problem. We will certainly replace it if it's faulty. Glenda
6 Flags-Great Escape is a 8 to 10 minute drive away! Rental boats on Lake George is a must, as well as large tour boats with dining facilities. Beautiful mountains allows for hiking and sightseeing. The house is so close to everything and yet private. INCLUDES WIFI.
