About the property

Newly Renovated Stone Farmhouse on 15 Acres Between New Paltz and High Falls

Our historic 4 bedroom French Huguenot style farmhouse was built in 1796 and is bordered by 6,400 acres of the forests, streams and lakes of the Mohonk Preserve designated by the Nature Conservancy as one of the "Earth's Last Great Places". You can literally step out of the house onto over 80 miles of hiking and biking trails.

The entire home was completely remodeled in 2013 and has all new appliances and furnishings. There is a chef’s kitchen with island and adjacent dining area with large country dining table for family meals. The living room has a massive stone fireplace for evenings by the fire.

All the bedrooms are designed for comfort with pillow top mattresses. Three bedrooms have king sized beds, one king that can be separated into twin beds and one bedroom has a queen sized bed. The master bedroom has its own private bath.

The house has air conditioning and all bedrooms have ceiling fans. There is WiFi.

The stone back deck is a great place to observe wildlife including squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, deer, cardinals, great blue heron, and Canada geese. The back deck is also equipped with a BBQ, chaise lounges, and dining table for outdoor living.

The house is located between the Hamlet of High Falls and the town of New Paltz and is minutes away from the renowned Mohonk Mountain House with its spa ranked #1 in the country by Conde Nast. Monhonk Mountain House also has a fabulous restaurant, tennis courts, and golf course.

Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the nearby hiking and biking paths, rock climbing, swimming and cross country skiing. The area is also known for fantastic antiquing and great restaurants, given its proximity to the Culinary Institute of America located just across the Hudson River.

Rental is available year-round on a flexible basis for guests and families looking for a quiet, relaxing rural retreat or active family vacation.

Check-in is after 4pm and check-out is by 11 am unless otherwise arranged directly with the manager.

Why Bruce Stalnaker chose Hudson Valley

We fell in love with the High Falls area when our daughter chose it for her wedding in 2008. Having a stone farm house surrounded by the natural beauty of this area of the Hudson River Valley is a dream come true for us and is a homecoming of sorts for Susan who grew up in Poughkeepsie. We are only the fifth family to own the home and are honored to be part of its incredible 217 year history.

Our primary residence is in Sonoma County, California where we grow wine grapes and produce wine under our own label.

Beautiful location, lovely home, great couples getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This home couldn't have been more perfect for our weekend getaway with friends. The bedrooms were comfortable and cozy. We loved the large kitchen, had everything we needed for dining, conversation and games. The living room was so perfect for fires at night and just relaxing. We had constant communication via email with Bruce, property manager, so always felt cared for. Can't wait to come back to this beautiful place.

Cozy and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect location to explore the New Paltz area. The home is minutes away from Mohonk Mountain House and Mohonk Preserve. My family was very comfortable in the home. It was perfect for small children and the background was a safe place for them to play. Bruce was easy to work with and very responsive.

Wonderful property in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful property for family getaways. Plenty of room for everyone and the kitchen is amazing. Lots of great firewood to use in the fireplace and the wood stove (although the central heat worked great too)! We were within walking distance of some hiking trails and made good use of them. The house may be a bit difficult to find in the dark, but it had automatic lights that came on when you arrived to help with unloading. We would love to stay here again in the summer and enjoy the rest of the area. The house was very clean, the beds were extremely comfortable and the house was quiet. The caretaker and the owner were very responsive to any requests.

Amazing vacation home, in a perfectly secluded location near Mohonk Resort. We come to NY every year, so I will definitely be booking here again. Owners went above and beyond to take care of us, so I highly recommend this property. Thank you!

Warm and cozy home!

  • 5 of 5

This home is the coziest home we have ever stayed in! We travel with four couples and there was plenty of room for us all. The kitchen had everything we needed. The blend of the historic home and modern conveniences is well done. The living room with its beautiful huge fireplace and comfy couches was well used by us. The beds were a dream to sleep on. The weather was so cooperative and we were able to sit outside in the large back yard area. The house is in such a great location. There was so much for us to do. Nice towns nearby, tons of hiking, golfing at Mohonk, etc. Bruce couldn't have been more helpful! It is a great advantage to be able to contact the property manager with questions and to ask for suggestions and get prompt answers. Thank you to the owners for providing their warm and inviting home. We felt like we were home every time we walked in the door!

Perfect Mohonk Weekend

  • 5 of 5

All the convenience of being near Mohonk without having to stay at the Mountain House. It's only a five minute drive up the road. House was comfortable and beautifully decorated. Kitchen was a dream. Bruce, the property manager, was very helpful and accomodating. Local traffic on the road was slighlty disruptive but walls were very thick stone so didn't notice it at night. Our two young boys felt right at home and appreciated the toy trunk in the family room. While it's a bit pricey for a house rental, it seemed worth it. Hope to go back.
