About the property

Waterfront with private dock, 3 bedroom, 3 full bath, great views.

Welcome to our wonderful waterfront retreat in the woods. We continue to enjoy so many great times at the lake house and now want to share it with others.

This is a lakefront home directly on Lake Anna with 200' of prime waterfront in the sought after Pigeon Run portion of the lake. The area boasts deep water for any size boat even in the worst drought. The house has a large deck to sip your morning coffee and a covered dock where you and the kids will spend hours swimming and enjoying the water. The fishing is great right from the dock and we regularly catch nice sized catfish and bass in the early morning in late afternoon. This is a great area to waterski or tube. Some of your guests can sit on the dock and cheer as they watch your young water skiers get up for the first time on a pair of skis or wake board. There are two marinas (Anna Point and High Point) right around the corner and has a boat launch, snacks and any boating supplies you may need. There are a few restaurants just a short boat ride away.

The home is on two acres. A short walk down the drive will give you access to another 16 acres where you can hike your own private nature trails. Either through a hike or in the home’s great room, there is wildlife. The high vaulted ceilings include a few of the owner’s hunting trophies from the woods of Virginia. Inside or out, there are many opportunities to just prop your feet up and relax.

The master has a king size bed with its own bath. There are two other bedrooms with queen size beds and one also has bunk beds and a toddler bed. The basement has a trundle/day bed which makes into two twins. There are TVs on both levels with many, many movies to choose from. There is also an assortment of games and a ping pong table. Friends will love to hang out on the bar stools in the fully equipped kitchen.

The deck off the great room is a perfect place to eat dinner with a dining area for ten people. There also is a gas grill for those nights you want to throw on a steak or eat the day’s catch. Smores around the fire pit is a favorite of kids and adults alike. The rental comes with the use of a three person canoe for exploring a meandering creek not too far from the dock.

There is a local winery, restaurants, grocery store and various other shopping just minutes away. Everything you need to have the perfect vacation is here!

Why Mary Hoelman chose Virginia

When we were looking for a lake house, we were drawn to this house because of the view from the shore and the extra 16 acres that adjoined the property down the lane. We visited the property when the sun was starting to set over the water and knew that this was the one.

Lovely property

  • 4 of 5

This is a spacious, if older, home and met the needs our leadership retreat well. The biggest drawback was the lack of curtains or blinds in the bedrooms and bathrooms. This made changing and getting ready a little troublesome. The kitchen does have supplies, but is not what I would call well stocked (i.e. no whisk, limited serving bowls). Everything was very clean. The view of the lake from the deck and dock was spectacular.

Our family rented this property over the Thanks Giving week and had a great time. We are from Colorado and have never been in Virginia before. We spent some time at the Lake Anna State Park which is very close and even made a trip to DC .The house was warm and comfortable and VERY clean. The house also was well stocked with all the kitchen items we needed for a great Thanks Giving Dinner. Thank you for a good experience in Virginia.

Great Labor Day mini vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great time at this property over the Labor Day weekend. We will definitely book this property again. Very convenient to launch our boat and jet skis at the near by High Point Marina and return for gas, etc. whenever needed. The home's kitchen has a large eat-in area where we gathered (7 of us) for meals and game playing after the sun went down. The two patio tables on the deck overlooking the lake were great for our morning coffee and breakfast! Thank you so much for sharing your lake home with us!

Perfect for our group

  • 5 of 5

We had a party of 10, two families with six kids ages 11 to 18. The house was not overly modern or fancy, but very clean and comfortable. The beds were excellent and the bedspreads seemed like they were new. It was definitely a "lake house" with a rustic feel. But, the air conditioner worked great and the kitchen was fully equipped. Our favorite part was the dock. It was private and we loved swimming off the dock. The kids caught many fish using just lunch meat and hotdogs as bait! We had hoped to rent a boat to go tubing, but waited too long to make our reservation and the only marina we could find that allowed water sports was booked. I think there is only one boat rental place that will let you water ski or tube with their boats, We used the three person canoe every day. The kids loved exploring on their own in the canoe. The lake was so peaceful and not crowded, we felt sure they were safe. We had a fantastic vacation and even took trips to Richmond and Charlottesville on a rainy afternoon. I would definitely recommend Days on the Dock, especially for active families.

Nice location, house needs a lot of updating

  • 2 of 5

We rented this house for the last week of June 2016, as well as the larger one next door for our family reunion. The dock and fire-pit are great and we very much enjoyed using them all week. The dock closet was well stocked with chairs and flotation devices. The weather was pretty perfect, and the lake temperature was great. Fortunately, we had the other house next door for our main gathering place and we used this smaller house mainly for extra bedrooms. The beds are AWFUL- all the mattresses need to be replaced. They all creak with every small movement. When we arrived, the deck furniture seemed like it hadn't been cleaned yet for the season- we had to scrub off layers of bugs and spider webs and air out the umbrellas. The kitchen had a bare minimum of supplies, cutlery, etc. The owners should definitely put some maintenance and updating into this property as they are renting it out.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your stay and we appreciate your feedback. To ensure our future guests have a wonderful vacation, we just replaced many of the beds while updating the master bedroom to a king. The kitchen items have been surveyed and updated as needed. The deck furniture, which sometimes can get overlooked, will receive extra attention in the future. We hope our guests will have an incredible stay at our home and make great memories with friends and family. We will continue to upgrade as needed to keep it a very comfortable lake house while still keeping it affordable for our guests. Owners Eric and Kristin

Boating, Tubing, and Fishing Fun

  • 5 of 5

Grandparents brought grown kids and 4 grandkids. House accommodated all well, was well kept, clean, and very functional. Kitchen was well equipped. We enjoyed toasting marshmallows at the fire pit. Colchester Equines on the other side of New Bridge provided a horse day camp that granddaughter enjoyed. Anna Cabana Restaurant on Sturgeon Creek, an outside restaurant, is accessible by water although we went over by car. The setting was great; the food was well presented and taste was OK. Billikens Barbeque across New Bridge was good for a quick meal, which is smoked on the premises and was reasonably tasty. The house dock is well maintained and was a great place or swimming. I secured Fishhawks Nest (20 foot deep-V walkaround) on the north side of the dock using the two solid cleats. The pop up cleats on the open part of the dike were too light for my boat, except for short periods for loading. The wooden supports for the private covered slip provided additional attachment points for securing dock lines. I put out 3 fenders to keep the boat off the edge of the pier (no dock fenders) - lots of tubing wakes. There was enough water to back in, and then raise the motor. A 22' boat could probably fit in the available space. I use High Point Marina where there is good fishing store, but Sturgeon Creek (and fishing store) and Anna Point marinas are nearby as well. The trail from the house down to the boat is well maintained, albeit it's a pretty good climb. Pigeon Run has good water almost to the end and we did several days of tubing. The location was also well located as the starting point for some boat sightseeing. The canoe was fun. We paddled from the dock into the creek at the north end of the run. There is a spot at the back corner of the pier that was ready made for my Son and family to launch their kayaks. Pieces of nightcrawler on small hooks readily caught sunfish and even small gizzard shad, plus one small bass and one foot long catfish. Marked fish on the far side of the run, especially near the fish reef at the entrance to the feeder creek near the mouth of Pigeon Run. The feeder creek is a quiet place to fish during the week. Marked stripers at the Splits, but boat traffic had them spooked, so no bite. Caught some nice catfish up there on the striper down lines. Trash wasn't picked up on the advertised schedule; the property manager on email notification took immediate action that successfully resolved the issue. Would like to come back.

Owner's Response: It is great to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Lake Anna continues to have new restaurants coming to the area and you can get to some by boat. The fishing continues to be good at this portion of the lake.

Lake Anna is one of the largest freshwater inland lakes in Virginia, covering 13,000 acres. It is located 72 miles south of Washington, D.C. in Louisa and Spotsylvania counties. The lake is easily accessible from Richmond and Charlottesville, and is one of the most popular recreational lakes in the state.
