Overview

About the property

Restful, rejuvenating space that inspires creativity and knowing more

This one-bed walk-out executive suite has stunning views across the Clayoquot Sound to Meare's Island and the mountains beyond. While the SHORE is nestled in the center of Tofino village, it is set on the water below Main St. The only distractions are eagles calling, fishing boats and the occasional float plane. This is the perfect place to write, create, discover yourself and the wonders of Clayoquot Sound! This waterfront suite is within walking distance of world-class restaurants. If you choose to dine at home, the designer kitchen is fitted with Miele and Krups appliances, with ample stone and glassware for entertaining guests. Use the outdoor grill to cook the fish that you catch. Dine indoors at the recycled fir table that seats eight, or dine al fresco on the patio featuring locally crafted cedar bench and table, and screened by strategic plantings. JC Scott designed eco-furnishings provide an understated west coast ambience where the outdoors commands center stage. The custom-made western maple desk divides the dining and living areas, looking onto the Sound and mountains beyond, making it the perfect place to write! Sit on the patio, the sofa, or on the ledge by the window with your coffee, and watch the morning sun creep onto the mountains across the Sound - or the setting sun paint the water, sky and mountains with unimagined colors. Lounge on the sectional or patio with your favorite book, if you can pull your eyes away from the ever changing view and the dance of the tides. Luxuriate in 300-thread count linen in the queen-sized western maple custom-made bed and drink in the view of the Sound. Practice yoga in the bedroom alcove by the window. Soak in the generous tub or shower in the travertine-tiled bathroom with a heated floor. Store your personal items in the bathroom drawers or the adjoining dressing room.

The suite provides a springboard for adventures in Clayoquot Sound and beyond. Ferry or kayak to first growth rain forest on Meare's Island and nearby hiking trails and camp sites, or take a float plane to more remote parts of the coast to revel in rain forest, mountains and glaciers. Take a boat tour to view whales, bears and other wildlife. Go on a fishing expedition. Bus, bike or drive to local beaches and hiking trails. Relax in hot springs or local spas. Take advantage of Sacred Stone Spa on site. Find your creative and adventurous self!

About Helen Mavoa

I am from New Zealand and have worked extensively in the South Pacific. Since purchasing this property in February 2013, I take every possible opportunity to spend time at home in Tofino. Clayoquot Sound is the perfect space to kayak, beach walk, write and build my photographic adventures.

Helen Mavoa purchased this condo in 2013

Why Helen Mavoa chose Vancouver Island

I first visited Tofino in June 2012. My stay in the SHORE building gave me an opportunity to experience first-hand the exceptional construction and award-winning design that are testimony to the developer's dream and long-term relationship with Tofino and the Clayoquot Sound. I left knowing that it was imperative for me to have a soul space here. This achieved, I look to share it with friends and discerning guests when I am unable to be in Tofino.

What makes this condo unique

The beauty, tranquility and wonder of the Clayoquot Sound, the size of the village (pop 1800), along with a wide range of opportunities for discovery and adventure in one of the most stunning playgrounds in the world, captured me in that first visit. The SHORE provides unobstructed water and mountain views of Clayoquot Sound where eagles soar on wind currents, numerous bird species rest during their migrations, sea otters play and, occasionally, Orcas visit. While the SHORE is in the center of town and within walking distance of world-class restaurants, it is totally divorced from the bustle of traffic and street noise. This is the perfect place for me to write, work on photography, kayak and begin to explore the many natural wonders in the Clayoquot Sound, in short, following my dreams while living in an executive suite with west coast eco-friendly ambience.

Notes:
This is the perfect space for writers, artists and photographers! While in downtownTofino, the only sounds are eagles calling, fishing boats and the occasional float plane landing in the Sound. Tofino has an array of annual festivals: Whale (11-26 Mar); Shorebird (5-7 May); Feast Tofino (6-22 May); Food and Wine (2-4 June); Pacific Rim Summer (1-9 Jly); Lantern (4 Aug); Carving (7-13 Sep); Oyster (16-19 Nov). The SHORE sits on the shoreline in the Clayoquot Sound, where eagles soar in wind currents, numerous birds rest on their migration paths, orca visit and sea otters play. When you tire of active adventure, soak in a hot pool, visit a spa, have a massage in your suite and/or soak in the peace and stillness that are without parallel. To minimise distractions, there is no TV or phone in the suite. As evening falls, visit one of the world class restaurants nearby, cook in the well-equipped kitchen or use the Weber grill on the patio, while watching the sun sink below the horizon.

The location is as good as it gets and the apartment is comfortable, well appointed and has everything you need. Helen is very responsive and goes out of her way to make this your home during your stay.

Owner's Response: I am glad that you enjoyed the eclectic nature of Tofino and Clayoquot Sound. The suite certainly provides a springboard for adventures, whether they be outdoor activities in the air, at sea or on the shore, or experiencing some of the gourmet food on offer. Do come back for another anniversary - or before.

Relax and rejuvenate the soul while watching the ocean and soaring Eagles pass.

The Shore 102, Tofino.

A Contemporary styled apartment with wonderful panoramic views of the ocean.

The apartment is tucked away on the waterfront but is super convenient for every activity one would want to do in Tofino and every amenity. The close proximity of Meares Island Viewing point and Waterfront make for a wonderful early morning stroll or watching the sunset. Or you can just sit in the patio area in front of the apartment and watch for soaring Eagles. We had a wonderful extended holiday here in July/August 2016 and really did not want to leave.

The service area and lift to the apartment is very well maintained and spotlessly clean.

The apartment itself has been carefully styled and furnished with handcrafted pieces of furniture made from driftwood which enrich the relaxed atmosphere of The Shore . The kitchen area is appointed with premium range products and equipped for light cooking or full dining the choice is yours. We enjoyed many meals in the apartment and looking across from the dining area through the lounge window out onto the waterfront never failed to draw a smile. The view is awesome, coffee is best taken outside in the patio garden over looking the ocean. If you wish to dine out there a number of excellent restaurants within walking distance. Along with access to a number of walking trails and Tonquin Beach.

Helen and her team work exceptional hard to make your stay special and are a mine of local information should you need guidance. We had a brilliant holiday whilst staying in a truly wonderful apartment. Thank You all.

Owner's Response: I am delighted that you enjoyed your time in 102 the Shore, which lends itself to extended stays like yours! JC Scott (of JC Scott Eco Design) was pivotal in selecting unique furniture made from recycled timber and sourcing many items from within 100 miles of Tofino. I have based subsequent purchases on this principle, often drawing on local artisans. I find that being right on the waterfront provides a panorama of changing sea and skyscapes and the non-intrusive activity of a working harbor while being being tucked away below the street means that the suite and the patio are devoid of the bustle of a vibrant local and tourist community. I am glad that you found the suite was a perfect springboard for joining in with community activities and a range of culinary and more active adventures on land, water and during your flight with Atleo Air. Do come back!

Peaceful place with a great view

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this fantastic new condo on the waterfront of the inlet. The location is wonderful as every morning you can enjoy coffee on the patio and observe eagles and seabirds on the inlet. The owner was fantastic with arrangements. We cooked in a beautifully appointed kitchen and on our lazy days could walk to the Wolf in the Fog restaurant up the street or to the Shelter (and there are many others too!). We rented bikes and enjoyed the many beaches. This is simply an outstanding place to stay and we will be back again.

Owner's Response: I am glad that you enjoyed your stay in the suite and discovered some of the spectacular beaches and food outlets that abound in this area. As you found, it is easy to rent bikes in Tofino and there is a great bike path that gives safe access to nearby beaches, a yoga studio and two more exceptional food outlets (Tacofino; Wildside Grill). I look forward to having you stay again soon so that you can keep exploring!

Peaceful place in a great location and a very helpful owner.

  • 5 of 5

It rained a lot while I was there, but this condo had a great view, central location and an umbrella for my use so I didn't mind. Spa was next door so I could wear my slippers. Most of all I appreciated the owner's willingness to be flexible. My husband's uncle died right before the trip. Helen worked with us to ensure that he got at least a couple nights to enjoy her condo.

Owner's Response: I am happy that you enjoyed your stay even with the rain. The rainforest is superb in the rain and the first growth forest on Meare's Island is a short boat ride or paddle away with the water taxi leaving from the dock in front of the condo. The west coast beaches provide great walks whatever the weather and are great venues for storm watching. The Hot Springs are also great on a rainy day and you have the option of taking a boat one way and flying with Atleo Air the other way. I also enjoy being in the condo when it is wet and still having wonderful views..and access to the nearby spa..

A peaceful haven in a spectacular location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a terrific trip to Tofino that was made only better by staying in Helen's wonderfully-appointed condo. The location was superb - we only had to walk out the back door for our seaplane and boat tours. The restaurants in the area blew us away. We have travelled the world eating fine food and our experiences at restaurants like Wolf in the Fog and Shelter showed us how truly magnificent locally-sourced food can and should be. We found people to be friendly without exception. Helen's condo was a peaceful retreat for us after a busy day in nature. We enjoyed curling up by the fireplace with our books and watching the wildlife, seaplanes and boats from the comfort of the apartment and private patio. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom spacious and lovely, and the amenities beyond expectation. If you are on the fence about making the trip to Tofino - go!! It is worth the effort to get to this magical place on the edge of the West Coast, and you won't find a better spot to unwind than Helen's lovely home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review!! I like to treat the entry into Tofino and the Clayoquot Sound - and the return trip - as adventures in themselves, whether I choose to drive through "the Pass" or fly into Tofino. The drive affords views of mountain peaks, gurgling streams and picturesque lakes, while the flight takes you over the heart-stopping panorama of mountain ranges that form the spine of Vancouver Island. Either way is a magical entry into a mystical place. Do come back soon!!

The best views, the best location & the most relaxing place to spend time

  • 5 of 5

No need for a TV, the large windows look out on Meares Island and the harbour..bald eagles & harbour seals are regular visitors..The kitchen is fit for any gourmet, the furnishings impeccable. Helen has the assistance on-site of Sara who provided wonderful restaurant tips and gave us a great introductory tour. Walking distance to the best that Tofino has to offer. I highly recommend the bliss and solitude of this wonderful space..

Owner's Response: I'm happy that you enjoyed the serenity of the suite. The suite was furnished in conjunction with JC Scott, eco-designer, so that it draws on primarily local materials, many of which are recycled, as well as complementing the ever-changing panorama of the Clayoquot Sound. I find it the perfect place to relax and to create, whether it be writing or photography.

The SHORE is situated on the water in the Clayoquot biosphere, where birds migrate, Orca visit and sea otters play. Come to celebrate one of many festivals in Tofino: Oyster Festival (November); Whale Festival (March); Food and Wine Festival (June); Carving on the Edge (September). Spend time relaxing and just be-ing, soaking in the beauty of the surrounds, or engage in the many water sports offered in this combination of Sounds and surf, visit the ancient rainforest on Meare's Island, learn about the First Nations' culture, see bears in their natural habitat, soak in hot springs, take Atleo Air's float plane or helicopter to remote locations along the coast or in the mountains, or go storm watching at Long Beach. When you tire of action and adventure, soak in a hot pool, visit a spa or organise a massage in your suite and soak in the peace and serenity that is without parallel. As evening falls, watch the sun set from the privacy of your suite or at a range of easily accessible west coast sites. Then your biggest decision will be whether to dine in on the fish you have caught or sourced locally, or at one of the world class restaurants that are close by.
