About Calvin Ruthven

Hi! I grew up in the finger lakes and absolutely love the area for its beauty and all the amazing attractions. I still reside locally and love it!

I have a passion for real estate, and began investing in real estate while still attending college. Having earned a bachelors in business administration and a masters in education, I am currently employed by a local university. I am also a licensed sales agent for Amanda Grover Real Estate and find my involvement with Real Estate very rewarding.

I LOVE spending time in the finger lakes with friends and family. Whether attending concerts, festivals, being on the water, or hiking - I enjoy being outdoors and active. Another passion is traveling, but wherever I travel I am always comparing to what I have at home in my own back yard and I return more fortunate to call the finger lakes home.

Calvin Ruthven purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Calvin Ruthven chose Seneca Lake

Building Seneca Bungalow and owning property on Seneca Lake has been a dream. In 2011, I purchased the cottage that my grandparents built in the 1950's and starting researching building Seneca Bungalow on the same footprint of the existing cottage.

Not only did 4934 East Lake Road appeal to me because it had been in the family for over 60 years, but because of the beautiful location and lot. The level lakefront, amazing sunsets, great neighbors, Reader Creek, and positioning in the Finger Lakes make Seneca Bungalow an amazing property.

What makes this cottage unique

Building Seneca Bungalow in 2013 was a great experience. I was very focused on paying attention to every detail and making sure the cottage had a classic, comfortable, lake feel, along with quality, sustainable construction while doing as much local as I could. I employed local Amish families for the wood flooring, all trim, built-ins, and all cabinets. I located salvaged doors, collected fieldstone from local vineyards, and made every effort to make Seneca Bungalow a great cottage for friends, family, and guests to enjoy.

It is hard to list unique benefits; if I had to I would say:

-Level Frontage with large shale beach

-New Quality Construction

-Very Tastefully Furnished and Decorated

-Handicap Accessible

-Great Friendly Neighbors

-Amazing sunsets

-Comfortable design for small to larger groups

-The list can go on and on!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fabulous Family Time

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Seneca Bungalow this past Memorial Day weekend for a graduation. We loved our stay and it was just the right amount of room for our families. The cabin was very clean and well equipped with towels and supplies. Calvin was so great to work with and we would recommend to anyone looking for a getaway/great family time!

The house was absolutely perfect. Adorable and cozy. Everything is brand new. A must stay. It's only a couple miles down the road from a handful of great wineries and breweries: Three Brothers, Zugibe, Ventosa, Bottomless Brewery. Calvin was great to work with and was super helpful in planning out our bachelorette weekend. I would definitely stay there again for a wine weekend!

Simply amazing

  • 5 of 5

From the moment I walked thru the door I was in awe. This house is simply amazing. The owner really went the extra mile to provide everything you can think of. The kitchen had every utensil and small appliance you needed for cooking as well as all the pantry essentials which we forgot to pack! Beds were very comfortable, bathrooms spotless, and tons of games/movies to pick from! Did I mention the tank-less water heater. It was perfect when you have a lot of people trying to take showers in the morning - no running out of hot water! The kayaks were alot of fun to take out and the sunsets were breathtaking. The best I have ever seen. I can't say enough great things about this place and you will not be disappointed. Thank you Calvin for letting us stay in your lake house. We will be back for sure!!

Parents 75th Birthday

  • 5 of 5

We gathered my family, my brothers family, and my parents who were turning 75. We had a terrific week. The house is beautiful. Much larger on the inside than it looks from the pictures. We had 12 people and were very comfortable. The bedrooms are large and three full bathrooms is wonderful. The house is 10-15 yards from the water. We could just grab our kayaks and go. There are several vineyards and a brewery within 3-4 miles; 3 Brothers is terrific. Geneva is 15 min drive. Want a wonderful house. Definitely would consider renting again.

Perfect Girlfriend Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this property is gorgeous! If you've ever stayed at a Finger Lakes property where you had to climb a huge hill from the water just to get back to your house, you will really appreciate Seneca Bungalow because it is right on the water. The beds were very comfortable...the wine frig was a great touch...the canoe and kayaks were an added bonus...watching the sunsets while rocking on the porch let all your troubles escape! We rented a van one day from Fingerlakes Limo and hit 7 wineries which worked out perfectly - I highly recommed you do this. The owner is very busy so cannot respond immediately but I assure you that patience really pays off because we had an amazing vacation!!!!
