*I am now offering my guests the option to rent the pontoon boat for your summer rental fun!!!
So , Welcome:
If you want a cross between my lovely grandmothers' “Sweet Briar” full silver service, breakfast, lunch and dinner charm and sensibility with myself, the artist, (Undergraduate and Master’s; will not say which Universities to lose guests due to college loyalties....Ha) who loves to create, design, and cook, you have found the correct Mountain/Lake Summit home. This is one of the first 4 original houses built here on Lake Summit and the first arrivals here get the best view.. You and your family/guests will feel its original charm, beauty, and tranquil spirit the minute you walk through the house and on to the front porch, deck and European brick courtyard, which all overlooks the lake. You will instantly shed all of the tension, stress, and ill will that you brought with you and will properly start your vacation *(if not, pour a glass of wine, or a higher octane in extreme cases). When you come back into the house you will find a very warm atmosphere with knotty pine, art covered walls, beamed ceilings, comfortable furniture (antiques and traditional), heart pine floors with traveled rugs, and a working original rock fireplace. Most of the walls are covered by my art (see pictures), art buddies, or local and Iinternational talent collected through my life’s journeys.
The house, though originally built in 1920 on this beautiful lake (dammed in 1919), has had all of the proper modernization's to the home without losing the feel of the original house. Probably the best descriptions of the property have been done by my awesome guests and their reviews and I definitly invite you to read them!
The house has three in-home bedrooms. All the matresses and box springs, in the house and boat house are brand new!! (Zzzz). The Master on the main level with a king-size bed and the two other bedrooms are located off the lower level with very comfy queens. The house provides all quality Egyptian or Pima cotton, white linens for the beds, and white cotton bath towels and wash clothes. I also have various colored or patterned Beach towels for the lake.
(Please note: Due to time restraints on turning the house, you are responsible for washing and drying the beach towels you use at the lake before your departure, or bring your own beach towels)
The Master bedroom closet also contains a twin size, FrontGate, Essential EZ inflatable guest bed for your convenience if you have a small child you want to sleep with you in the same room or close in the living room area. Very comfy and really easy set up or take down. Sheets provided with bed.
I also feature the fourth lucky bedroom which is 15 feet over the water, located on the second story of the boat house. This room contains two twin beds with an awesome wake up view. There is air conditioning, heater, and/or fan if needed, and is the perfect hideout for any family’s teenage or older children, or those wanting a little more privacy (located down the hill from the house and over water, not appropriate for children who need attending...period). It also works as a great reading/napping room overlooking the lake and the upper deck herb garden. This is also a great place for a Massage! Yes, there is a folding massage table provided under front twin bed.
*(The boathouse is not equipped with a bathroom or a masseuse) .
The Main house is complete with two full newly renovated bathrooms, a Fully-Equipped Gourmet Kitchen with gas stove, Calphalon cookware, Henckles Knives, proper serving pieces and a centered butcher block (grab some herbs from the herb garden!), an exquisite, often-used fireplace in the main room that’s sure to provide the perfect evening setting. Central air/heat, with ceiling fans as well. There are two large French farm tables which can hold 10 guests each, one inside and one on the expanding front porch. This house is sure to provide the space and accommodations for any size or type of family, group of friends, cozy enough for as few as two, or spacious enough for as many as eight.
Fully equipped with all the latest in technology, the house includes 6 flat screen televisions all with "smart" (Netflix) capabilities (which can also be left off), wireless internet, as well as a surround-sound system for your music listening pleasure. The televisions maintain a "Whole House" DirecTV package. Yes guys, if there is a game, match or round, you can get the game, match or round. Almost any major sporting event. Welcome to your vacation as well!
(I recommend the large flat screen on the front porch for those sporting events, it also overlooks the lake, best of both worlds!) The stereo system has surround sound for the movie viewing which also goes through the main floor of the house, kitchen, porch, and cooking deck. There is a PlayStation 3 at the main TV for gaming or streaming videos for the kids with many games and controllers provided. There is a pair of VR Goggles, cards and other various games as well (including Twister!)
Perhaps the most stunning and noteworthy feature of the house, aside from its inner beauty, is its multiple locations for outdoor gathering enjoyment. Overlooking the lake, there are four different outdoor areas for entertainment at any time of the day or night. Not only does the lower level bedroom entrance have its separate great deck that overlooks the lake, but the boathouse, besides the beach and dock, also has a patio deck on its upper level. Again, surrounded by the smells of the herb garden, this is a perfect place for wine, cheese and appetizers. It has nice seating for any afternoon or evening (off of the boathouse bedroom, this deck is also fun to jump off of into the lake).
The courtyard next to the grilling area also has a Chimenea for the outdoor fireplace feature and chill quaint gathering spot (wine not provided, but I would encourage bringing some).
However, arguably the most enchanting and magnetic place on the entire property is the spanning front porch on the main level of the house. This wooden deck with natural Mountain Laurel rails and party lighting (electrical, candle lit, or combination) provide the ideal view of the lake at the perfect altitude to view on for what seems to be forever. The Western facing porch allows for the most perfect point of view for every sunset that one could ever ask for. Cameras will get a workout from this perspective, I promise. The porch includes the other 10ft French farm dining tables (breakfast, lunch and dinner lake views) with several candle opportunities. The other half of the porch has a seating area, a large porch swing, it opens to the outer deck and to the brick courtyard. There are the two proper grills (one gas and one charcoal) at this part of the house all allowing for unforgettable nights and fantastic dinners. There is also a movable propane Tower Fire Tube heater to gather around on the deck or on the porch on those cooler evenings. For those who have not seen one yet, look them up...
The boathouse and dock has 4 Kayaks for your use, a "Floating Island" to swim to and sun on as well as many other floatables, a full-size refrigerator, an ice cream maker, blender, Micro wave, panini press, fresh water sink and a hot dog steamer (over one million hot dogs served). And 5 Bikes!
There can be arrangements made for purchasing a permit and gate key access for your own boat . It does take a letter of permission from me and a few weeks to request a lake permit (requires proof of insurance, etc, so this has to be done way ahead of time before your arrival).
Or..., you can take the option to rent my 20ft pontoon with a 50hp Honda 4 stroke. The boat will be delivered to you and waiting at the dock at your arrival.... (Easier, no launching, no permitting, no hauling, less expensive, you are on vacation already, alternative.). ;-)
I great way to explore the rest of the lake or take that occasional cocktail cruise!
**You definitely do not have to decide about the boat renting option now. You may decide closer to your arrival date. I only rent this boat to my guests. It is my personal boat, easy to maneuver, you can't get lost on the lake, and it comes pre-dented from being on a lake full of wooden docks (laugh) , doggie rides permitted. The boat is already on the lake and we can arrange to get it to the boat house fairly quickly.
It is also of course a great lake to bring a Canoe or Paddle Board . Or just Kayak with the 4 included Kayaks!
And sunning, floating and swimming off the dock is the toughest job you should have during your summer stay.
Tryon International Equestrian Center:
For those of you visiting or participating in the marvelous new Tryon International Equestrian Center, Welcome. Lake Summit is an easy 20 some minute drive up the mountain on I -26, just on the other side of Saluda. That short drive gets you out of the lowland heat and up the mountain where it is at least 10 degrees cooler minimum at all times. Not to mention the cool clean mountain lake to jump in to wash the days dust off... For those guests not familiar with the Tryon International Equestrian Center, its a must see during your visit here if you can possibly get off of the lake.
Thanks for considering my property and I hope to see you all soon, from which ever direction you are coming from and for what ever reason it brings you here. It has been fondly dubbed "Camp Billy", a camp both for the young and the young at heart. (And cheaper than other camps at the other end of the lake!). It is a great adult alternative to hang here while your kids participate in the other truly fine kids camps at the other end of the lake....laugh. But truthfully a great, fun spot with the whole family.
With all of this said, I would love to share the house I've built my life around. I am sure it will become as memorable for you as it is endearing for me.

About Billy Gordon
I do not just have this VRBO property, I take advantage of other VRBO properties at every opportunity in my travels. If you can make your own bed, enjoy the culinary arts, do not want o drink and drive while being able to enjoy your vacation,.......it sure beats the heck out of hotels and restaurants.. Ok..... If you do go out and enjoy some of the many restaurants in the area. Don't drink and drive!....Well. Too much. ha I like to help my guests enjoy their stay, and typically go out of my way to do so. I think because of this I have aquired many new friends who started out as guests, and who end up coming back to visit on a yearly basis. Of course , only if they can handle my attempt at humor...... I admit I am very lucky to own this property, and it is a lot of fun to share.
Billy Gordon purchased this Cottage in 1920
Why Billy Gordon chose Saluda
This is truly not your typical rental. I go at great lengths to make this property as comfortable and welcoming as it could be. From the art on the walls and the complete chefs kitchen to the fun floats and kayaks , hot dog steamer and ice cream maker at the boat house. Nice large white towels, Pima or Egyptian white linens, new mattress and box springs through the whole house for every bed to the Charmin double ply soft toilet tissue. I do not scrimp on anything and it makes a difference when compared to the others..... After all, I enjoy staying here as well....... The views are incredible and vast out across the lake and mountains , yet you are a short ride to restaurants and stores for your convenience. I guess the best sell for this property comes from you, my guests, and the kind words expressed in the reviews given that are attached to this site in the review section. I invite you to read them.

Like a great pair of comfortable pants!
Oh the wonderful happy family stories this house could tell! One has a sense of history at Camp Billy that surrounds you like a warm, comfortable blanket. This is a true, quintessential historic lake house experience. We had everything we needed to enjoy the amazing views in an unpretentious, but very exclusive environment on a lake generally reserved for a privileged few. At Camp Billy, there is a feeling of continual discovery with new little gathering areas around every corner or nook and cranny that allow one to sit by a fire, swing on the porch, read a book on the sofa or hang out in the spring sun on top the dock house. In our short three day stay, we never ran out of places to have a great conversation and never grew weary of the amazing views. Billy is as responsive and candid of an owner as I have had the pleasure of interacting with and was nothing short of amazing as a host. Billy, thank you for sharing this unique experience and we look forward to our next stay.
Truly a one of a kind! My family and I spent New Years at the cabin, snuggled in with a fire and made lots of delicious meals together! Peaceful and Beautiful... I can't wait to come back for a summer get away! Billy is awesome, goes out of his way to make sure guests have everything needed- exceeds expectation!
We spent Christmas week at Camp Billy and I can not begin to express what an amazing time we had. First let me start with the owner Billy....he is awesome! The interaction with him added to the stay. He was very timely with responses and made sure we had everything we needed to make sure our Christmas dinner could be cooked just right. We lacked for nothing! The beds in the house are so comfortable we didn't want to get out, but then we would remember the view that was waiting for us. Every morning started with a cup of coffee on the porch and ended with a glass of wine on the porch swing. Second to the house (owner and artwork included) is the location. Short drive to both Greenville, SC and Asheville, NC. Both these cities are must-sees! Plus every town in between is adorable! We have fallen in love with this area and will be back again and again! We didn't spend much time out on the lake dock, since the temperature didn't get much above 40. This is a good reason for us to come back in the summer. The lake looks amazing!! We made some spectacular memories at Camp Billy and are thankful for this gorgeous and unique property!!!
We loved it! Especially Rocky!
We were looking to get away for the first time with our Samoyed Rocky and so the 5 of us packed up the van and drove from South Florida to North Carolina. This is a beautifully appointed cabin owned by artist Billy Gordon who is an icon in Lake Summit. He is very responsive and genuinely cares about his renters and their satisfaction.
Super pet friendly accommodations and Billy added some personal touches for my kids and Rocky which was very thoughtful.
Make sure you read to home "handbook." The place has much to offer but you'll need to know the workings first!
Thank you Billy for a great stay and we'll be back!
Beautiful, peaceful, fun
There are not enough accolades for "Camp Billy". One just has to go there with friends or family to experience the great house with stone fireplace and awesome kitchen, plenty of area to entertain - including the fabulous dock, dock house and pontoon boat. While the house is a treasure with everything you need, the lake is the star. Just sitting on the wonderful deck and relaxing takes you to total contentment. The location is near Saluda, Flat Rock and Hendersonville, if you can persuade yourself to leave. All of which have great dinning and shopping. Everything was immaculate and fully stocked. Camp Billy, I will be back soon!
Fun, rustic retreat.
Camp Billy is a flash to the past in a historic lodge-type home. The porch and living room give plenty of space for people to congregate or do their own thing. Great kitchen. The kayaks were a big hit and floating around the boat house our favorite activity.
