About the property

3 bedrooms main house (1King/2queens) 2 lucky twin sleepers over boathouse

So , Welcome:

If you want a cross between my lovely grandmothers' “Sweet Briar” full silver service, breakfast, lunch and dinner charm and sensibility with myself, the artist, (Undergraduate and Master’s; will not say which Universities to lose guests due to college loyalties....Ha) who loves to create, design, and cook, you have found the correct Mountain/Lake Summit home. This is one of the first 4 original houses built here at Lake Summit and the first arrivals here get the best view... You and your family/guests will feel its original charm, beauty, and tranquil spirit the minute you walk through and to the front porch which overlooks the lake. You will instantly shed all of the tension, stress, and ill will that you brought with you and will properly start your vacation *(if not, pour a glass of wine, or a higher octane in extreme cases). When you come back into the house you will find a very warm atmosphere with knotty pine, art covered walls, beamed ceilings, comfortable furniture (antiques and contemporary), heart pine floors with traveled rugs, and a working original rock fireplace. Most of the walls are covered by my art (see pictures), art buddies, and local or international talent collected through my life’s journeys.

The house, though originally built in 1920 on this beautiful lake (dammed in 1919), has had all of the proper modernization's to the home without losing the feel of the original house.

The house has three in-home bedrooms, the Master on the main level with a king-size bed and the two other bedrooms are located off the lower level with very comfy queens (one bed is named the “Marshmallow” because no one wants to get out of it).

I also feature a fourth bedroom which is 15 feet over the water, located on the second story of the Boathouse. This room contains two twin beds, an awesome wake up view, air conditioning and/or fan if needed, and is the perfect hideout for any family’s teenage or older children, or those wanting a little more privacy ***(located down the hill from the house and over water, not appropriate for children who need attending...period). It also works as a great reading/napping room overlooking the lake and the upper deck herb garden. This is also a great place for a Massage! Yes there is a folding massage table provided under front twin bed. Call ahead of time to set up an appointment for a professional Masseuse during your stay.

*(The boathouse is not equipped with a bathroom).

The Main house is complete with two full bathrooms, a fully-equipped gourmet kitchen, gas stove and proper cooking gear (and grab some herbs from the herb garden!!), an exquisite, often-used fireplace in the main room that’s sure to provide the perfect evening setting. Central air/heat, with ceiling fans as well, everywhere. There are two large French farm tables which can hold 10 guests each, one inside and one on the awesome front porch (read above). This house is sure to provide the space and accommodations for any size or type of family or group of friends, cozy enough for as few as two, or spacious enough for as many as eight.

Fully equipped with all the latest in technology, the house includes 6 flat screen televisions all with WIFI capabilities (which can also be left off), wireless internet, as well as a surround-sound system that encompasses both the inside and outside settings. The televisions maintain DIRECTV package w/ two receivers. Yes guys, you can get the game, almost any game, welcome to your vacation as well. The stereo system has surround sound for the movie viewing screen and also goes through the main floor of the house, kitchen, porch, and cooking deck. There is a PlayStation 3 at the main TV for gaming or streaming videos.

Perhaps the most stunning and noteworthy feature of the house, aside from its inner beauty, is its multiple locations for outdoor enjoyment. Standing on the edge of the lake, there are three different outdoor areas for entertainment at any time of the day or night. Not only does the lower level bedrooms of the main house have a separate beautiful deck that overlooks the lake, but the boathouse also has a patio deck on its upper level. Again, surrounded by the smells of the herb garden, this is a perfect place for wine, cheese and appetizers. It has nice seating for any afternoon or evening (off of the boathouse bedroom, this deck is also fun to jump off of into the lake).

However, arguably the most enchanting and magnetic place on the entire property is the spanning front porch on the main level of the house. This wooden deck with natural mountain laurel rails and party lighting (electrical, candle lit, or combination) provide the ideal view of the lake at the perfect altitude to see on for what seems to be forever. The Western facing porch allows for the most perfect point of view for every sunset that one could ever ask for. Cameras will get a workout from this perspective, I promise. The deck contains one of the French farm dining tables (breakfast, lunch and dinner lake views) with several candle opportunities. The other half of the porch has a seating area, a large porch swing, it opens to the outer deck and brick courtyard with two proper grills (one gas and one charcoal), all allowing for unforgettable nights.

The boathouse and dock has two Kayaks for your use, many floatables, a full-size refrigerator, an ice cream maker, blender, fresh water sink and a hot dog steamer. There can be arrangements made for getting your boat lake permitted and docking your boat as well (it does take several days to get a lake permit so this has to be done way ahead of time before your arrival).

It is a great lake to Canoe, Kayak or Paddle Board Of course, just floating and swimming off the dock is awesome too.

Tryon International Equestrian Center

For those of you visiting or participating in the marvelous new Tryon International Equestrian Center, welcome. Lake Summit is an easy 20 some minute drive up the mountain on I -26, just on the other side of Saluda. That short drive gets you out of the lowland heat and up the mountain where it is at least 10 degrees cooler minimum at all times. Not to mention the cool clean mountain lake to jump in to wash the days dust off... For those guests not familiar with the Tryon International Equestrian Center, its a must see during your visit here if you can possibly get off of the lake.

Thanks for looking at my property and I hope to see you all soon, from which ever direction you are coming from and for what ever reason it brings you here. I would love to share the house I've built my life around and I am sure it will become as memorable for you as it is endearing for me.

We were pleasantly surprised by the property once we were inside. Keep in mind it is an old lake home, almost 100 years old and if you have issues with stairs you may not want to rent this lake home. We had 4 adults over 50, 4 young adults in their 20's, and 4 little dogs. The beds are so comfortable, the house is very tidy and clean, well equipped for cooking which we did almost every day, as well as barbequing outside. We enjoyed the hot tub and chimenea, on the big front porch. We enjoyed eating outside at the big farm table with lots of candles and comfortable outdoor lighting. Our daughter and her 2 girlfriends slept comfortably in the boat house and we enjoyed the first 3 days hanging out on the upper deck of the boat house as well as using the kayaks...awesome day jumping from the upper deck as well, beautiful lake...and amazing views. We also liked that the back yard is fully fenced for the long as you don't mind the woodsy conditions, and the boat house which is located directly across from the back of the house is also fenced with a small grassy area.

We hiked small Bradley hiking trail which ends at a beautiful huge water fall, shopped in downtown Saluda, small and quaint little town (loved it) the barbeque restaurant is a great treat, and visited the Biltmore and downtown Asheville (very easy 40 min drive). Lots of TV's even on the outside upper deck, very cozy to hang out inside the open floor plan dining/living area. The Master bed is in the main upper part of the home and there are 2 bedrooms and a big bathroom on second floor that is a separate entrance on the lower deck, nice and private from upstairs living, and 2 very awesome single beds in the boat house. The owner Billy is very accommodating and easy going, great to deal with. We highly recommend this property for those of you who want a true old fashioned mountain experience with all the technology we are all accustomed to.

Wonderful Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolute blast at Camp Billy!! The lake was beautiful, the house a perfect mountain retreat for us and our four children (and lovable Labrador.) Our dog thought he had died and gone to heaven with the lake at our door step and the large fenced in yard….

The kids all loved the hot tub, the assortment of rafts and noodles, kayaks, reading a huge selection of FarSide comic books, and watching the birds etc.

My husband and I loved all of those AND the well-equipped kitchen, the very comfy beds and the many TVs around to watch the Olympics. The high-end washer and dryer were a godsend as we were in and out of the lake and hot tub a lot!

Billy did an incredibly thorough job with all of the house instructions and we were very appreciative of how thoughtful he was with every detail, and his prompt responses to our questions. The house is well-loved and it shows with all of the personal touches that would make any guest feel at home. We would certainly love to come back!!

Wonderful retreat

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Lake Summit. This home is beautiful and unique and has every convenience you could need. Towels, sheets, beach towels are all provided and there is a washer and dryer. Additionally, the kitchen is perfect for cooking - plenty of pans, utensils, plates etc. If you are not in the mood to cook, Green River BBQ in Saluda is about 5 minutes away, as is the Purple Onion, both excellent dining choices. Grocery store is also very close. The view from the porch is amazing, and there is no need to leave it to dine inside as the there is a large dining table outside. The walk to the lake and the boathouse is short. Additionally, the boathouse has a refrigerator so one can keep snacks and drinks at the lake. There also are kayaks, fishing poles and life jackets at the boathouse which can be used. Any questions we had were answered quickly by the owner, and it was a pleasure renting from him. I would highly recommend this property.

Wonderful mix of rustic, eclectic and modern home features. Great decks and superior kitchen

  • 5 of 5

It was a real pleasure to have the opportunity to stay at Mr. Gordon’s Lake Summit home. We stayed off-season, so I can’t comment on the lake or other benefits but came up to stay over the Christmas holiday hoping first snow. Despite an unfortunate amount of rain (12 inches over 7 days in December ?!), the combination of the rustic, eclectic, and modern residence was the perfect combination to allow my family and I to enjoy the holiday spirit. The deck and its views were great, even with the rain but even better when the rain stopped. The view from the boat house deck during sunset was awesome. The main house was a perfect gathering point and the kitchen was great for complex meals (all the tools are there and almost all the spices and condiments were present). Whether it was homemade pizza or a classic roast beef dinner, we had no problems with prep or setting up for 6 adults. The television and WiFi were more than adequate for the many rainy days with multiple devices (4 “adult” kids), and the walks around the lake with the dog were perfectly relaxing in the mist or the rain. The grounds were steep, so keep that in mind. The stairs are really a “stair master”. When the rain cleared sitting out in the deck or down the boat house deck was the ideal relaxation even in the chill of December air. The site easily accommodates 3 full couples bedrooms with 2 additional beds at the boathouse which even in the winter season was okay for the younger members of our group. I would highly recommend this site to anyone who wants to get away but still be “in touch”’ with the modern world. Highly recommend.

Perfect Experience!

  • 5 of 5

Billy went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, answer all our questions, and make us feel welcome! His home was the perfect mix of modern amenities (great TV's everywhere, amazing kitchen, dual shower head shower, Wi-Fi, outdoor hot tub) and opportunities for casual fun (kayaking and swimming on the lake, large wooden table for dining and games both inside and on the porch, grilling, and reading on the porch's swinging bench overlooking the lake). We only left the house and lake to enjoy nearby zip lining, visit Asheville, and grocery shop for delicious food to grill. The fact that the entire property was fenced so our dog could roam to his heart's content was an unexpected treat (for us and the dog!). We can't remember ever having a better vacation!
