The place is lovely, the host was responsive, everything fine and dandy!
Perfect. Very well maintained. The bed was comfortable.
Owner and her dog were great and very friendly.
Unfortunately not very accessible for those whom might be less mobility inclined. The stairs are steep.
Quirky, Cozy & Comfy
This flat was great for our three-night stay in the East Bay. All the comforts of home were there, and the Rockridge BART station was within walking distance. The owner was responsive and considerate. We would stay again and recommend it to others.
Comfortable, Vintage Hide-a-Way in East Bay Area Hills
This fun unit is located downstairs in an elegant home in an historic, upscale, hillside neighborhood. It feels very safe and makes for great walking, all the way down to bustling, restaurant-rich College Avenue if you want a workout, or the Rockride BART station (probably a good half mile). We found it to be a great choice for us: private, clean, quiet, comfortable, spacious and nicely appointed (good bed, nice linens, nice bath towels, thoughtful lighting, nice dresser for clothes storage). Street parking was not a problem in this old neighborhood, but the narrow, dead-end street requires some nimble turnarounds to get in and out. A big car would be a hassle, but not impossible. This place is a good choice for visitors who are in good shape and spry -- the concrete and stone stairs leading down to the unit, although well lit, would be quite a challenge for others and a big hazard -- unclimbable, really -- for anyone with leg weakness, disability, walker, cane, etc. The alternative entrance is safer and shorter with handrail, but steep, narrow and has several step up/downs. Those who prefer slick, new hotel rooms won't be happy here, as it is an old building. Getting in and out with your stuff requires some effort. But others -- especially those who love the East Bay Area -- will appreciate the offbeat features, including big windows, hardwood floor, porch with view, lush garden setting, an antique stove you must light by hand, big sink without disposal, and no dishwasher). You can hear the 24 freeway, but only as background noise and it didn't disturb our sleep. Cable TV with hundreds of channels worked great. The place has a somewhat peculiar layout -- you have to walk through the kitchen and up a few stairs to get to the bathroom. The dining area in the kitchen is pretty tight. There is a nice closet, and oddly, it is two steps up. The huge couch/daybed has a few soft spots. But these things were quite tolerable, again, for those who appreciate fun, roomy places like this. If you go in winter, you'll likely need to borrow space heaters from the hosts, as the main house heater (at least in our experience) didn't adequately heat the downstairs unit. But most of the year this is not an issue, and again, things like this are not unusual in an older place. Hosts Daphne and Marco were fun, accessible and helpful. They allow dogs with approval, a huge plus for us. Would stay here again.
Very comfortable place with lovely view over Oakland and the water.
Easy check in. Plenty spacious for two people with great balcony. Hoping to stay again on our next visit to Oakland.
Thanks Jenny. Glad you enjoyed your stay. We would love to have you back anytime.
Spent two cool summer months (occasionally it got above 70 degrees) in a 'cool' Berkeley unit.
Accommodations were quite comfortable. Easy parking and handy to the Rockridge area, BART, and northern Oakland or UC Berkeley. I would gladly recommend the place for one person or a couple for either a short or longer stay.
