About kathy

We live in the Boston area and have enjoyed many vacations with our three children on Captiva.

kathy purchased this condo in 2013

Why kathy chose Captiva

Having spent many years visiting my parents' winter home at Punta Rassa, just across the causeway from Sanibel Island, we knew we wanted to find a home for ourselves in this area. We loved visiting Captiva, where the geography of the island allows you to visit the beach and bay easily.

What makes this condo unique

Once we saw Captiva-Hide-a-Way, we knew we had found our spot. We love looking out at the pier from the condo, and we have enjoyed sitting at the end of the pier at all times of day watching boats go by, watching the moon rise, and spying on manatee as they play nearby.

Total relaxation! That's what Captiva Island is all about. This bayside retreat offers the luxury of arriving by boat or keeping your boat within view of your vacation rental unit. Captiva offers the intimacy of access to Pine Island Sound and all its unique wildlife, as well as the convenience of a short walk to one of the most beautiful beaches in Florida. Enjoy watching manatee and sea otters play while you enjoy a dip in the bayside pool. Fish for dinner on a boat or off the pier. A fileting station is located conveniently on the dock, and a grill awaits your use to prepare a memorable dinner. You can also let someone else do the cooking, as Captiva Village is just steps away, where several fun, casual restaurants are located. Shops are nearby as well. No need to drive! Enjoy watching the sunset at the beach, and watch the moon rise back at your rental unit. Get up early in the morning to watch the sunrise while you sip your coffee on the lanai.

Perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I just returned from our stay on Captiva and this property was really lovely. The interior furnishings are super comfortable (beds, couches and chairs) and it's beautifully decorated. Plus the kitchen had all of the fundamentals (coffee filters, paper towels, garbage bags, salt and pepper...) that you never know if you need to buy before you get there, but it was nicely stocked. The view from the screened in lanai overlooking the pool and dock is just incredible. We spent most evenings out there with a bottle of wine. It was just a quick walk to the beach and all of the island restaurants and stores - we really didn't need to use our car once we parked it at the beginning of the week. Being on the water we noticed there was an almost constant breeze, which was heavenly considering the temps were pretty high while we were there. We noticed that as we walked a block or two into town the breeze died and it was quite steamy - one day it was almost unbearably hot in town and we were grateful to get back to the gorgeous breeze by the pool. The one, and only, drawback to the property was that you could really hear the neighbors in the unit above us. Unfortunately they were very early risers so we never really got a chance to sleep in, but other than that it was nearly perfect and we would definitely come back and stay again!

Lovely, private, intimate and delightful neighbor/residents.

Great morning view of the bay and pool. Enjoyed watching the manatees and dolphins up close and personal. A fisherman's delight and walking distance to everything. The unit itself has been recently redecorated and is beautifully done and comfy and cozy. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could want. Great bed in the master suite - slept like logs. The lanai was perfect for coffee, wine, reading and staring off into the waterfront view. Enjoyed our stay immensely.

Beautiful Condo on Captiva

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four- two adults and two school aged children- stayed in this condo over spring break this year. The owner, Kathy, was very helpful and communicative. The condo was tastefully decorated, comfortable, and we especially enjoyed the artwork. The newly renovated kitchen was lovely, and it was nice to have a modern washer/dryer as well (not always the case in rentals). As others have mentioned, the pool was not crowded at all when we were there and the kids mostly had it to themselves when they chose to swim. We loved having the shared dock, my kids were out there fishing almost every moment that we were home at the condo. The location is very good as you can walk to the beach and village easily. The DVD player was missing for our stay, so we could not watch the movies we brought. However the owner compensated by allowing us to select a movie from On Demand. As someone who travels with a chefs knife and really likes to cook (even on vacation) I felt the kitchen was missing a few things, such as a pot big enough to boil spaghetti and a good cutting board (glass is terrible for your knives). Overall though, we were very pleased with this vacation condo and would definitely rent it again on our next trip to Captiva. Thank you for sharing your lovely home!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your review and comments. We have figured out how to install the DVD player and purchased a large pot since your stay. And I sometimes cut right on the granite when I cook. I will check to make sure we have a couple of extra cutting boards as well. We were happy to have you stay!
