THIS IS THE POPULAR SOUTH GATE AND CLOSE TO EVERYTHING! BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN LOOKING FOR A PLACE CLOSE TO THE PARK. CHECK THE MAP CAREFULLY, (OR CALL ME 800-459-8429) THE VRBO ALGORITHM NOW INCLUDES RENTALS OVER AN HOUR (!) FURTHER AWAY THAN OAKHURST/BASS LAKE/AHWAHNEE. It may look like only 40 miles but remember....it's mountain roads. Jes fyi
Enjoy an incredible deal on this beautiful private estate. There are NO BOOKING FEES as you book directly thru me. 800-459-8429 (Works USA and Canada, or you can email me with your number and I'll call you.)
Limited number of bookings but you can reserve next summer, in-season at this lowered rate, DEPOSIT HOLDS BOOKING. We are NOT on the 'landslide' side of the park. That is a very long way from here.
This is a luxury estate, two private bedroom/bathroom suites, 2 regular bedrooms, (total of 5 bedrooms) king beds, large natural rock jacuzzi and in ground, huge pool and waterfall, meadows, and very pet friendly; available for advanced booking. Super close to Yosemite (the 'Rockin' side of the National Park!) and a quick 15 minutes from BEAUTIFUL Bass Lake! Here at Warm and Wonderful you can socialize in total privacy and enjoy the amenities without disturbing anyone. Guests tell me it is less than the cost of a hotel when they consider eating the food they want, when they want, snacks, cocktails, play at the pool, and jacuzzi in private, absolutely priceless. Check my reviews which are all five star and warmly presented.
The estate is very near (about 20'ish minutes total) from the popular SOUTH gate, the same side as Mariposa Grove, Wawona Stables, Narrow Gage RR, Goat Meadow, Oakhurst village, and of course, BEAUTIFUL Bass Lake. The lake has tons of water, lovely club, restaurants (it's actually a little city, very close to here.) and boats to rent, party and ski with clear clean water, hiking, picnic, etc.
People call the Ahwahnee Riverbend Area (one of the Gateways to Yosemite) spectacular; locals call it Shangri-La. I chose these beautiful mountain meadows for the weather and location. These meadows are warm in the winter and cool in the summer at 2000 elevation. It is rumored to have the best year round weather in this area, amazing and truly Warm and Wonderful. Less than 5 miles North on Hwy 49 from Oakhurst, 15 minutes from Bass Lake and about the same to enter High Sierra mountains and Yosemite. Just 20 miles North is Mariposa Fairground (tons of activities, mining museum w/millions in bullion, ridin', ropin', mud races, demo derby, bull riding, etc etc, wow!!) and the historic mining town of Mariposa is only 30 minutes north.
Wait ‘til you see the house, check out the photos! There are private gates and a Redwood lined driveway entrance and separate exit for trucks, boats, and horse trailers.
We can accommodate 10 guests (total 10 guests regardless of age but we can occasionally squeeze in a little duckling, if necessary) and the rental is $600 per night ( fee for cleaning $300- Vat/Tot tax 11% on the rental, only), minimum 4 nights. (I do not charge to heat the pool/jacuzzi!) There is no charge for your pets. Dogs must be accepted prior to your arrival. Particulars are available within this listing under Rates.
The house is 4800 sq ft (7 1/2 acres, fully fenced) of beautiful. The kitchen is really big with lovely grey quartzite counter tops and easy to use appliances, ample counter space to cook, bake, walk-in pantry, spices, mixers, some food and a complete laundry room.
The house has five bedrooms. Two are full suites (one Cal King, one Queen) with private bathrooms (one suite can have TWO private bathrooms) and both have private entrance/exit from the house. The 3rd + 4th have Kings and a lovely view of the meadows (1 has private entrance/exit), and bedroom 5 is a quiet, off the master with a couch, double bed, private entrance, and lovely view of side pasture and front; really an excellent nursery. Our capacity at this time is ten, adults or children (babies are always welcome but I still have an insurance limit on warm bodies, so do ask, please.) All are welcome and we can usually add an extra with some sleeping consideration . More than half our guests are three or four couples that just want their own suite (bathroom) and enjoy the excellent, large, floor plan affording socialization or privacy for all.
There are three flat screen TV’s. One in the Master Suite (45”) has Netflix, really big one in the den (52”), and the third (36”) is in front of the fireplace in the living room. You have lots of movies and can hook up your private netflix on any tv as there is wifi. The DVD library of movies and shows is fairly large. If you need high speed Internet there is wireless and wifi almost everywhere on the estate.
The pool is quite large with easy access and open entrances from two rock stairways. It's about 40,000 gal and heat the pool seasonally (depends on ground temp, there is no additional charge) and Jacuzzi (heats up fast) is over 500 gal and can be used all year and still, no charge to heat. The natural rock waterfall is almost one story high and the deck around the pool has plenty of room for four umbrellas and plenty of seating for people to sit, change seats, move in and out of sun, and talk. Our motto is ‘Sit Long, Talk Much’.
Warm and Wonderful is less than five miles from a rockin’ mountain village (Oakhurst) with 20 great restaurants, a full multi screen cinema, microbrewery, and Raley’s grocery; famous for quality markets in Bel Aire and Knob Hill. There are numerous art galleries, retail stores, and farmer’s markets. We are ½ mile from Hwy 49 and very accessible. Yosemite is too beautiful for words. You can ride a narrow gage logging train, see Glacier Point, Bridleveil Falls, or just wander the glories of nature. Now THAT is truly spectacular.
If you like water sports, 10 miles away you can play at Bass Lake in season water skiing, boating, fishing (rod + fly) and a classy restaurant and bar with patio overlooking the lake and boat dock. The lake is beautiful because spring rain makes it clean, crisp, and clear.
A little over one mile north on Hwy 49 is the hottest Cowboy bar in two counties with bands, dancing, big screen TV for sports, great food and tons of local ‘color’.
We are less than a mile from ‘Open Range’ where cattle and their calves graze along the road and we have a working cattle ranch two miles away where you can watch real cowboys (and cowgirls) sort and rope cattle during the season.
You can pan for gold (good luck) a half mile away at a secluded riverside park. We’re walking distance from a darling nine hole golf course with restaurant, and bar. The meadows in this area are lovely and perfect for all season activities as you see from the photos of the estate.
SO MUCH TO DO, YOU WILL LOVE IT!!
If you are road weary travelers, couples wishing an exclusive get-away (rarely see neighbors, they are some distance away), best friends that just want to ‘chill’, or crave to wander the mountains with your pets (we have maps)—This is the place for you. You can 4-wheel drive, Yosemite Zip, horseback ride, golf, hike, bike, ride the railroad, work cattle, ski (both kinds), swim, sight-see, shop, browse art galleries, eat, play, and love.
I've had numerous people ask so I'll help you now. We are NOT on the landslide side of Yosemite. That is a long way from here. You have to go up to Mariposa, thru Mariposa about 40 minutes to the rock slide (one lane road with long traffic light) and then further up into the park to THAT gate.
Give a call, the phone rings right into the house and it is an 800 number, too.
800-459-8429 or you can call my cell number 310-874-2552 Can't wait to hear from YOU.
I am happy, healthy, hard working and gregarious. I hail from the midwest but in Calif for almost 40 years. I lived in Germany in the 70's and love to visit there. It comforts me. I lived in Greece for over a year and had an apartment in South Ruislip, London with 7 Australian girls for a year, too. (Now THAT'S going in my memoir!)
I ride our quiet mares, Fritzie and Kelly all over the mountains as the trails are well groomed fire trails that are incredible. They wander in the mountains, around lakes and past historic views that cannot be reached by car. I have ridden most of my life and still amazed at the diversity of this area.
When I'm not riding I'm a total tourists in the beautiful backyard, Yosemite National Park.
I ride Narrow Gage RR a couple times a year, with my dog, Jani...she loves it. You will too.
Louisa Allyn purchased this estate in 2010
The house is unique, spacious, and beautifully laid out. The bedroom suites make privacy easy and the size of the kitchen/den/pub room make it easy for several of your group to float back and forth to friends and family.
The grounds have ample room for horses and the meadows circle the house so the horses can watch you all day long; and they do. Their TV is their humans playing in the pool. They just can't get enough of it. Little odd to look out the high round window in the master bath and they're watching you..strange but you'll get used to it. They are curious children. Even without horses this estate is very calm, easy and comfortable.
The first year their was a rare White Christmas. It was the icing on the cake. I will be here for the rest of my life.
If you want to stay home the kitchen is perfectly set up with just about everything a cook/baker would want. There is a large front meadow and porches everywhere. You can swing and watch horses graze out the front, enjoy the view from the tables at the pool, or sit at the table and chairs outside the kitchen where there are lights, a fan and a pass-through window for food and drinks. Talk about lazy?
I occasionally send the mares out to pasture, winter, if large group of equines, expected or I'm planning to travel for more than three days. The area is so accessible, they can be 'off' or 'on' the mountains' in less than 45 minutes. If you need to chill from the group you can watch movies or Netflix in the back bedroom/suite which seats 4 people comfortably. The Queen suite has a window/seat so you can read and keep an eye out for birds and butterflies in privacy.
Extremely well behaved clean dogs. Both families were just fabulous; the kids were great and polite. They cleaned before they left and I am inviting them back at a discount. Cannot say enough about what a pleasure it was to meet and share our estate with such a fun group. They are the ones that spoil you. I hope they consider us new friends and come back in the summer; with the dogs. They are ALWAYS invited.
This is a sprawling property located in a fantastic area not too far from Yosemite. The community of Oakhurst is approximately 5 miles away with two major grocery stores and numerous restaurants/amenities.
This home is gigantic and unbelievably clean. We had a group of eight and ample room and then some. The owners of the property supply you with everything from a stainless steel grill to a propane smoker. Everything you need is available for an extended stay. This home has three A/C units and the home cools very fast.
The pool is amazing. The waterfall was a thrill for our children. The temperature of the pool was perfect and we did not need to use the pool heater which was available. The hot tub was also a nice touch and heated to desired temp very quickly. Plenty of seating and umbrellas are located poolside.
The owner is very knowledgable about the area and very willing to provide guidance. They are also located in a guest house on the property and were helpful with any requests. We had asked about panning for gold in the area and she said we could go less than one mile from the house! We purchased some gold pans at the home center and decided to leave them for future guests. We had great fun searching for the big nugget (we didn't find it).
Louisa was excellent! From the first time I spoke to her inquiring through the last day on property, she was willing to make our family vacation special. Immediately after booking, she sent special invitations to everyone attending. She included a ton of literature about activities and events so we could plan our stay. She was diligent at responding to our questions by phone, email and text message when necessary. Louisa will make you feel welcome.
This was not our first go around renting a home for vacation but I will say it was our best! I hope we have the opportunity to stay at Warm and Wonderful again. I highly recommend this property.
Property is beautiful, quiet and just as described. Very clean and well stocked. Plenty of room for our entire family to spread out then get together in the large kitchen/nook for a meal. We enjoyed the private pool with nice views of the mountains. Very close to Oakhurst where we could get groceries or eat out. About 30 minute drive to the gate of Yosemite. Louisa was very helpful and friendly and easy to contact. She provided a lot of information before and during our stay. We would recommend this property.
We spent a week at this property with friends and family - what a special place! Ross and Louisa are in the guest house on the property, and readily available if you have questions or need anything. They do need to meet everyone in your party, so if you are not all arriving together, they will come by again after they have given the tour of the house and property. The location was perfect for snowshoeing in Yosemite and around Fish Camp. It was a very relaxing vacation, nice and quiet but close to town for groceries etc. We especially enjoyed the jacuzzi nestled in the rocks, and cooking in the well-equipped kitchen. The master bedroom and bath is really nice too!
Warm and Wonderful was the first of two VRBO rentals for our trip to Yosemite and environs in June. The home is very spacious and perfect for our family of 9, 6 adults and 3 children. Louisa and Ross were on site and helpful both before we arrived, providing information about activities, and after we arrived providing a guided tour and introduction to amenities. We enjoyed a full day at Bass Lake taking advantage of the water activities before we headed to our 2nd rental in Yosemite. This is a beautiful part of the country.
We stayed here for a few nights! Really nice place , plenty of room for us to spread out after long days in the park. Our kids loved the pool! The owners were really nice and met us there and showed us around! If you are looking for relaxation then this place is for you!
My family of 5 (3 children 12,10 & 6), my in laws and our 10 month old puppy enjoyed the most wonderful week at Louisa & Ross's estate! The house was very comfortable for our party of 7! Louisa was so helpful before our trip as we had never visited the area. She sent me visitors guides and gave me ideas of things to do that would be fun for our group. Let me say everything she recommended was perfect! We spent 3 days visiting the park and 3 days exploring local towns. When we arrived she was there to walk us through the house and explain all of the instructions which was super helpful. The property exceeded our expectations. The kitchen was perfect for cooking. Lots of room throughout to spread out & the view from any window in the home was lovely. Beautiful horses were outside & incredible to watch! My children enjoyed the pool every day ( even when it was cold outside). The hot tub and pool area were so amazing! We have rented vacation homes all over the world & this one was just perfect & the hosts were amazing!
Visit Yosemite, pan for gold, browse art galleries, 4-wheel drive, zip line, river rafting, ride narrow-gage railroad and enjoy a working cattle ranch
hike, bike, ride, swim, jacuzzi and beautiful Bass Lake is only about 10 minutes. PLUS, we are not on the landslide (now there are TWO landslides!) side of the park. You can get in and out of the area really fast and go up into the park day after day with almost no traffic. There's a bit in high season but if you leave early, you'll be just fine.

Special Events are prior approval and overnight maximum of 8 remains firm. Your guests (with approval) are a five hour day rate of $25 or less depending on the occasion and number of people. We love weddings!
I will try to charge a flat fee of $1,000 for weddings and no additional charge 'per guest'. I think a wedding with 100 guests is just about maximum for this estate and of course, only the overnight guests will use the house.
* Approximate monthly rate. Actual rate will depend on the days of the month you stay.
