The house has a fun location, great view if the lake! Some improvements will make it even better!
The house is great, one bathroom in each level. A few things need work and repair but the overall feeling and convenience is great for a group! Marlena was available and attentive, thanks!
Awesome Views! Great family fun!
What a view! We loved the home and the area. Fire pit was great and provided a great sunset, firefly and s’more experience! Home was decorated well and supplied with everything we needed. House was in a great spot for all the area had to offer! Hot tub was a great addition!
House needs improvements
I enjoyed the view. But- No hot water at the kitchen-sink and the dishwasher washed with cold water so had to rewash the entire load by boiling water on top of the stove. Resulted in time away from enjoying vacation. Water pressure downstairs was a drizzle. Couldn't even get the shampoo out if the hair. The insects and spiders were a little to much to ignore. They were always climbing the walls and ceilings. Place needs to be fumigated. Couldn't get directv to work in the master bedroom or the kitchen. The master bedroom; thought maybe operator error, but the kids couldn't either. I do have directv at home but the channels said one thing and all you could get was the shopping network/info commercials. Kitchen-no picture ever came on. Just fuzz. Door knob that holds the lock was about to fall off.
Spent first day of arrival searching for a different rental. Not a child friendly home (or adult). The faux fireplace that is used as a TV console is extremely unstable. Just walking across the floor results in it shaking as though it is going to fall apart. Although the TV is a flat panel, it is an older model and weighs far too much to be on such an unstable piece of furniture and so high off the floor without having any type of wall security mount. My grandchildren are 6, 4 and 9 months of age. Our family had to constantly remind them to stay away from the faux fireplace for fear of the TV falling on top of them.
As I was helping my 6-year granddaughter put her clothes away on the top floor, the poorly constructed dresser fell over. If the brunt of its weight had not been stopped by the bed, we would have had a very serious injury. She ended up with a large bump on her head.
I then canvassed the home for other safety issues and discovered the following:
1) Faux fireplace in main living quarters bedroom is also extremely unstable. Also used as a TV console. The right door is completely unhinged and fell off;
2) Wrought iron credenzas on top floor and main living floor also very unstable. My 9-month old grandson bumped the credenza on the main floor with his baby walker, and the greenery pot fell on top of his head;
3) Carpet leading to basement is pulled away from riser because the thresh hold is missing. Definite tripping hazard. The ceiling tile on the side wall leading down the stairs is pulled away and exposes duct work and electrical cables.
4) There are no hand rails for the stairs leading to the basement, and the stairs are very steep.
5) Toilets were dirty and stained;
6) Round bar table door on top floor is almost off the hinges, and contains glass items;
7) Washing machine does not work properly;
8) Sink drains were dirty and did not drain properly;
9) Charcoal and gas grills were filthy, and the propane was completely empty.
10) Spiders, webs, and eggs covered the basement door. Large black ants were everywhere.
On the last day, in the process of checking under the beds for my grand children’s belongings, I discovered a pack of Marlboro cigarettes (none of us smoke) and a to-go food container under the downstairs bed (not ours). There was an empty Mountain Dew can under the upstairs bed. Layers of dust everywhere. Obviously, only surface cleaning was done before our arrival. Sent pics and videos to owners.
Accommodating and a great view.
It was awesome. Lots of room and all the accommodations we needed. The view was also incredible, the photos don’t do it justice, you just have to see for yourself.
Nice home but poorly maintained
We loved this home. It's beautiful and semi - secluded with a fabulous view of a lake and of the mountains. However, the home is not well maintained. The kitchen is sporadically stocked so don't plan on there being enough cookware or bowls and plates to use for a family dinner. Also, bring your own batteries if you want to watch tv or dvds. The remotes didn't have any batteries and none were provided even though the owner knew they were missing. There was some unrepaired damages to the house as well. The bed linens are few and far between... old worn out pillows and scratchy bed covers. Oh, and the pool table is torn on the surface felt and there's no dart board as pictured. Basically, the house is for sale so don't expect much. The owner is nice but non responsive while you're there. We tried contacting her about the problems but she didn't respond until after our long weekend was over. For the money, there are many other places to stay. And, you should know that trying to get up the unpaved and poorly maintained dirt and rock road to get up to this house is very difficult, even with our truck. There are three 180 degree hairpin turns. And, your not a few minutes from Helen, if that's your destination for entertainment. More like 30 minutes of very curvy road.
Thank you for staying in our home! Unfortunately, I did not receive any notification of your email from vrbo until after your departure. My cell phone number is given out to all guests and may be used 24/7. I have replaced the batteries. We have never had a dart board and haven't advertised that we do. Helen (as stated in the listing) is around 20 miles from our home. It's between a 20-30 minute drive. Hiawassee is a beautiful area that I hope you will return to. Have a great week!
