Overview

About the property

Beach House With Hot Tub, Game Room And Tiki Bar

Our Lost Horizon is impeccably decorated with all the conveniences of home.

Watch Dolphins play while relaxing on the large balcony. Flocks of pelicans, osprey & seagulls fly overhead as herons play in the water. Fish for flounder, snapper and much more. You can watch the coral sunsets while relaxing in the hot tub, sitting around the fire pit or from our outdoor tiki bar…The Jolly Roger. Also located just off the living room is the “Pirates cove” with a DVD collection, games and books. While there is a large dining table inside facing the beach, why not get a better view and dine outside on our large balcony dining table.

While you’ll feel you’re in the middle of nowhere, if you can tear yourself away from the enchanting natural surroundings you're only 20 minutes from the quaint historic town of Ocean Springs. It has many great restaurants, museums, art galleries, sidewalk cafes, antique stores & unique gift shops for you to enjoy. Your 25 minutes from the casinos of Biloxi, 90 minutes from New Orleans and an hour to Mobile where you can visit Bellingrath Gardens or tour the USS Alabama. The Infinity Science Center is about an hour away and you’re not far from the gulf island national seashore park. For some exercise & adventure you can arrange for Amanda at “Paddles Up” to deliver paddle boards right to the house. Or you can contact Captain Mike (our local favorite) for an airboat tour around the river & gulf or he can take you to nearby Horn Island for some exploring. He has various boats and options to enjoy. We have a lovely deep sandy white beach but it’s important to note the Mississippi Gulf coastline doesn’t have clear blue water as you’d find in the Caribbean or constant sand beneath the water. Depending on weather sometimes the sand rolls out with the tide exposing the silty bottom. Ocean Springs was not as harshly effected by the BP oil spill as other areas. It was cleared years back of any residual effects of the spill.

Our Lost Horizon is the perfect place for a relaxing getaway where you can enjoy the abundance of natural beauty and adventure

Great Family Beach House

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Our Lost Horizon was simply the best! This house was exactly what I envision when I think of a beach house. The decor, the path to the beach, the deck, the firepit, the tiki bar, and so much more ... every detail was appreciated and put to good use. Our 'Crab Crew' (the kiddos) even made use of the crab cages provided and we cooked up some blue crab! So fun! The owners were just great and so lovely to work with. We sure would love to return someday ... Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience that created so many wonderful memories for our family!

It's UNDER priced. :-)

  • 5 of 5

Awesome fa ily getaway. I took my children and grandchildren, it was perfect. The play area downstairs and Bea h kept the children quite happy, and, we could sit on the balcony overlooking the sprawling staircase and watch them playing on the beach.

Air conditioning kept us cool, internet and satellite TV worked fine including WiFi. Impeccably clean and exactly as described. Photos are cuttent. Fishing is good nearby and we caught 5 dozen crabs with the traps they provided.

A place e like this at Gulf Shores or Orange Beach would cost you $5-700.00 a day!

C'est on, Mon amis. :-)

Beautiful home on the beach...........BUT

  • 2 of 5

I thought I had already reviewed this property, but I did not see it listed in the reviews. My wife and I, along with our two adult children and one of their friends, spent 5 days at the Lost Horizon. The owner was very nice and helpful. The house was wonderful, clean, and had just about everything you could want in a vacation home. We enjoyed the beach (water not included), and the quiet location. We traveled around to the surrounding communities, shops, and restaurants and had a wonderful time together. Everything was just as described on VRBO, EXCEPT the condition of the sand once you venture just a few feet into the water. Remember the theme song to the Beverly Hillbillies? "Up through the ground came a bubbling crude", or something like that. Anyway, evidently this part of the gulf has not recovered from the tragic oil spill of 2010. The first day in the water, my son sat down for a short time and when he stood up his swim trunks, which were mostly white before, were now an oily dark brown on the bottom. Fortunately, they washed clean after we scraped the gunk off them and then put them in the washer. I could not believe it was that bad, so I walked out about 3-5 feet into the water and felt the beautiful sand turn to what felt like mud. I reached down and got a handful of this "mud" and when I raised my hand up out of the water, all I saw was a mass of BLACK SLUDGE. Needless to say, we never went into the water there the rest of our trip, which was unfortunate, because that was one of the main reasons we rented this place. It just isn't the same sitting/laying on the beach and not being able to run out into the water to get cooled off, or swim a little bit. Although, this is of no fault to the property owner, we understand that, we feel it IS their responsibility to reveal these conditions when renting a BEACH HOUSE. Had we known this beforehand, we would have rented somewhere else. As for me only giving it 2 stars, my wife would have only given it 1, and this was ONLY due to the problem mentioned above. If that problem didn't exist, it would have been an easy 5 stars. So, in conclusion, if you want to stay somewhere ON THE BEACH where you can swim and have fun in the water, I would look elsewhere. At least until mother nature resolves this problem.

Perfect Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We have just finished a five day stay at this house. It is absolutely perfect for a family getaway. The house is huge and has all of the necessary anemities. The area is quiet and relaxing. It is a quick an easy drive in to Ocean Springs and Biloxi. This is a great place for young and old. We brought my mother and our three kids. Everyone loved it here. The owner is amazing to work with and provides quick responses. We will definitely be back!

Decent Space, Poor Experience

  • 1 of 5

The house was fairly nice and the amenities for the most part are as described in the listing, save for this water "filter" which may spare you the odor but certainly does not do much for the color which is a yellowish brown, and barely perceptible as water. I did not feel clean my entire stay. Then there is lawn maintenance which left much to be desired. Shoes are NOT AN OPTION, but a REQUIREMENT everywhere but within 5 feet of the ocean side. Grounds are littered with barbs, what looked like cactus, and all manner of sharp deadly things to snag and mangle your feet on. I only bring this issue up because on the second floor vantage point you can clearly see both neighbors opposite , with their beautiful manicured lawns and clearly distinguished walking paths to the beach, quite frankly making my current grounds look shabby in comparison. My major grievances begin with the issue of privacy. Let me be crystal clear, those looking for an isolated private getaway , THIS IS NOT THE LOCATION FOR YOU. There are cameras EVERYWHERE , and that is the ones that are just immediately perceptible to the naked eye. I understand the potential use for such cameras as this is a private property and might have even been willing to look past it had they not been monitored or even loosely monitored during our stay, but to potential renters this property is not casually monitored by any stretch of the imagination. You CAN and WILL BE constantly surveyed during your stay. So if you are a fan of Orwellian getaways this might be right up your alley. This brings me to my final grievance, the property manager or "Big Brother" herself. While our interaction was brief it was poignant. I won't needlessly elaborate, but suffice it to say the customer service left much to be desired. DO NOT have guests or friends of any kind VISIT the property, that might exceed the allotted amount meant to STAY there. past 9:00 P.M. Do this and you risk a potential midnight visit from the ever vigilant security camera monitoring manager, who in all seriousness i got the impression was potentially under the influence of either drugs or alcohol but that aside was most certainly not respectful or courteous by any stretch. My final thoughts are that it is a shame such a beautiful property is plagued by such a litany of issues. I can not in good conscience recommend this property to those looking to relax and have a stress free getaway. I only gave it a one star because no stars is not an option.

Owner's Response: I appreciate the opportunity to let others looking for a vacation home know what kind of beach house we provide. We're in a serene beach community shared by rental houses and homeowners. The privacy and peace of residents as well as renters is important to us as it is to any in our area. Our guests are always made aware to please keep the volume of outdoor activities at a reasonable noise level after 10:00pm. We do not run a Frat house. We have external video cameras for security purposes, not to surveil our guests activities. Anyone nearby or driving down the road could hear the goings on at the house on this guests last night. Only after being awakened around midnight and informed of the situation did I tell the guest to shut down her groups activities. Guests considering renting a private home for large group gatherings should read all information presented to determine if such gatherings are allowed. We accommodate sleeping & parking for 8 guests who of course are always welcome to have friends and family visit during their stay.
