About this property

Edgartown Hydrangea: Walk to Everything

You will feel right at home in this owner/architect designed 3-bedroom, 2-bath house with original art in the heart of Edgartown, nestled in a garden oasis.

Located on Cooke St. south of Cannonball Park, this home is a short walk to everything a charming small town has to offer including great restaurants, Main St. shopping, a movie theater and the scenic harbor.

The home provides an ideal base to explore Martha’s Vineyard for a romantic couples getaway or a family vacation with young kids.

--- The Space ---

The Hydrangea house has natural oak floors throughout the living areas and bedrooms. The ground floor consists of a fully equipped kitchen, dining room with seating for 6 and a welcoming living room. The living room is centered on a gas fireplace and mantel with comfortable furniture for lounging. There is a cozy downstairs bedroom with a queen bed and french doors opening to the brick terrace in the garden. There is a full bath between the bedroom and the living area.

The upper level has two ample cathedral ceiling bedrooms, one with a king bed (and additional daybed) and the other with a queen bed. Both rooms have walk-in closets. The bedrooms share a beautiful recently renovated bath with a 3’ x 5’ marble shower, toilet and lavatory. Between the bedrooms is a small but well-lit functional office area with a desk and a closet with a stacked washer and dryer.

There is a private outdoor shower with hot and cold water off the brick terrace. There are front and side porches, and space for two cars to park on the semi-circular drive off of Cooke St.

The house is a short walk to all the wonderful things Edgartown has to offer—beaches, shops, markets, excellent restaurants, movie theaters, and harbor. There is also easy access to the bike path and vineyard bus network if you visit without a car and would like to explore more of the island.

--- Guest Access ---

The house, porches, terrace, and parking are for guests exclusive use.

The Hydrangea is part of a three-house compound surrounding a large lawn and extensive perennial gardens. The main house was built in 1870’s and the two smaller houses (The Hydrangea and The Trumpet Vine) were added in 2000. All houses are constructed in the charming local style with white clapboards and cedar shingles.

Together they shape a lovely outdoor room with a large expanse of green lawn and perennial gardens and borders. In addition to the private outdoor spaces, the shared common area is wonderful for various games and children's play.

--- Other things to note ---

All the essentials for your relaxing summer or off-season vacation are provided including linens, beach towels and beach chairs. There are several bike rental stores nearby and options for groceries just down the road.

The stay was just what we needed for our family of six for the weekend. It was a great location for walking into Edgartown. Having a gas fireplace on a cold day was a nice perk, all the bedrooms were great and the renovated bathroom upstairs was really well done (wonderful shower!). Property manager was responsive, helpful, and so kind and the original artwork throughout the house added warmth and charm.

I am a partner at an architecture firm in Boulder, Colorado, but now live half the year in San Miguel de Allende where I have built a home and painting studio. My wife and I enjoy hosting people in Mexico and on Martha's Vineyard, two very special places we have fallen in love with.
