10) SUPER PRIVATE SOUTH BACKYARD - SEE NO NEIGHBORS!
How can you be humble when you're gorgeous? This spacious elegant home has it all.
This stunning south pool/backyard mid-century beauty has been renovated and updated. The posted rates are excellent value for what this property offers in terms of style, design and cool factor.
You will love this home! It has clean lines and incredible views that extend through the house. It is for the discriminating (and design conscious) traveler.
The signature feature of this 2,908 square ft. H-shaped house is that the dining area, living room and master bedroom - the entire south-facing back of the home - wrap around to embrace the views of the pool and mountains to the south. The whole back consists of large glass walls and sliders that bring the view (the graciously large and classically designed pool, the palms, the sun, the mountains) inside the house. Private and privileged is the only way to describe it.
Beautifully restored and brought up to date with all of the conveniences, well-equipped and with exceptional design integrity. New solar panel system and solar pool heating/cooling system were recently installed, keeping energy costs down, plus a new spa and outdoor shower.
First and foremost, the pool...Ahh, yes the pool. The patio is truly an outdoor living space, and you will love the pool whether you get wet or not (but I highly recommend it). Huge wide gracious steps allow you to determine, at your own pace, whether it's going to be a full dip or you just want to dabble your toes. The pool was built literally around two historic date palm trees, which occupy two corners of the pool (the entire area was originally a date farm). A half circle on the opposite side arcs around a lovely fountain that can be set to your liking and provides a lovely musical water sound as a backdrop to your day or evening.
A hint of this magic is suggested from the front of the house. A brilliant beveled glass door allows just glimpses of the sunny green and turquoise paradise beyond, and suggests the luxury of the home's many modern chandeliers and sparking bathroom pendants, as well as the simplicity and quality of it's genuine (and rare) terrazzo* floors.
A full BBQ outdoor kitchen is there to serve you while you relax or entertain, with a large BBQ and granite counters. Generous seating on comfortable outdoor sofas and chairs, as well as an outdoor dining table and chairs allow you and your guests to eat, drink and enjoy the pool and views throughout the day.
The living room is huge and the ultimate in cool: fabulous for both entertaining and hanging out by the very modern fireplace, with aqua coloured fire glass, or spread out on comfortable huge new white leather sectionals, watching the 70' TV (if you can take your eyes off the view). Modern pot lighting highlights the classically mid-century modern slump-stone walls, which are painted a luminous silver!
Lovely evening views of the trees, shrubs and pool, lit up at night, dramatically extend the view from the living and entertaining areas - as well as the master bedroom if you want - into the backyard and water at night.
The brand new modern kitchen, including kitchen 'bar' (in the modern sense, with stools at the counter) is superb and relaxed, whether for entertaining a group or that casual private meal, and always with the view present. Dishes are modern and stylish and there are plenty for entertaining. Espresso maker allows you to make your own latte in the morning. Large pantry and closet allow you to tuck away absolutely everything to keep it looking lovely .
The stunning and sexy laundry room (really!) is designed with the understanding that it serves as the 'entrance' to the home for the main inhabitants, from the vantage point of the 2 car attached garage. A striking stacked stone wall and brand new metallic grey washer and dryer in a large laundry room, with walk in utility closet, at once spoils you - and allows you to keep the house looking picture ready (when you want to).
The master bedroom elegantly opens from expansive glass south and west sides onto the pool area. What a way to wake up! What a way to enjoy your day! The master has two attached bathrooms (his and hers?): a cool and strong (masculine, classic) pool bathroom, which also opens with huge wide sliders onto the pool area, as well as a large master bathroom, with the original real onyx stone tub surround and vanity retained, and a shower and classic roman tub.
In addition to the master, there are two additional bedrooms, one of which can serve also as a den or office. All 3 bedrooms have a TV. Bedroom 2 has two queen beds and bedroom 3 has one queen and a desk. All three bedrooms have large glass sliders, with gorgeous 'vertical sheers' that offer all the flexibility and privacy options you will need: whether fully open to enjoy bright views, lovely soft light through sheers, or fully closed for full privacy and room darkening.
Some details: lovely crystal and modern chrome door knobs strike a balance between modernism and Hollywood glam. Original hooks for pool towels outside on the east path which skirts along the master bath, the main guest bath and the main bathroom sliding doors toward the pool were retained as part of the funky/old school character and are great for families and guests who want to sneak from the pool directly to their bedrooms.
A street legal 4 seater golf cart with new lithium batteries is generally available but please confirm. Please advise specifically if you would like to arrange for use of the golf cart.
* FYI: terrazzo is a solid poured concrete floor with chips of marble, honed to a smooth finish, that was very popular in the 60's. This one was poured in place, about 4-5' deep, within a 3' x3' stainless steel grid, and has been gently restored.
Please note that due to an ordinance of the City of Indian Wells, rentals of under 30 days are not permitted and max permitted occupancy is to sleep 6 though there are 4 beds: 1 king in the master and 3 queens.

About the host
Hosted by Margot Langdon
We are Canadians, a retired lawyer (now a realtor) and , who love the outdoors and plan to spend more time in the Palm Springs in the not too distant future. We love tennis, golf, cooking, socializing and fitness.
Why they chose this property
I have a strong interest in design and studied architecture (Pre-Masters Qualifying at U of Manitoba) before I returned to law. I retired from law in 2016 and have been working part-time as a realtor since then. Back in about 2011 I fell in love with the desert. After looking at a lot of properties, this one was clearly exceptional, from a design perspective as well as the sunny south mountain and palm tree views and the huge classic pool. I love the water, and love to enjoy the outdoors and views, both in solitude and while entertaining or hanging out with friends and family. I have a deep and abiding love for beautiful design and the space, views, light and lines spoke to me - loud and clear. In fact my heart skipped a beat as soon as I saw it! It was an untouched, totally un-renovated, mid-century modern that had not been maintained for many years, and I had a dream about how beautiful it could be again.
What makes this property unique
The space, light, gorgeous pool and south mountain and tree views of this through the glass walls are incredible all day from most of the house. You will look forward to getting up in the morning and going out for a latte in the seating area facing the pool and mountains. It calls your name!! Then you will look forward to any opportunity to lie by the pool - and then you will notice you are already looking forward to cocktail hour, and turning on the pool lights and landscape lighting! The lighting of the house is so beautiful in the evening that you will seek any excuse to have guests over to share it with.
