Eclectic & Peaceful With Character - 3 Bedroom, 1 Bath With All New Furnishings

Relax & Regenerate. Quiet Historic Home, Easy Walk To Downtown Salida. Dog friendly too!

Our welcoming 1901 Victorian with 3 bedrooms and 1 bath in downtown Salida has what you are looking for and more. With the character of a turn of the century home yet all the modern conveniences, you will never want to leave!

You can tell we had a blast getting this house ready for you! A palate of rich colors, new and eclectic furnishings featuring local Salida artists, as well as the necessities of comfort, all welcome you home. Memory foam mattresses, enough pillows that everyone can choose feather or foam and warm blankets will assure you sleep better than ever. Both downstairs bedrooms have Queen beds. The third bedroom (upstairs) has two twins you can convert to a King if you so desire as well as a pull out twin for overflow guests. You’ll be surprised by cozy sitting areas throughout the house. So spread out and enjoy! If you’re traveling with a larger group, you can still find “your space”! The kitchen is fully appointed with Stainless appliances and everything we could think of to keep you happily away from home. The bathroom roomy with a antique clawfoot tub/shower. For warm summer days, each bedroom has opening windows with screens. Downstairs both bedrooms have ceiling fans and the upstairs bedroom has a window A/C unit to keep you comfortable! The living room has a ceiling fan and a variety of doors and windows with screens can be opened for GREAT cross breezes! Colorado cools down at night - even in the summer so we keep the down comforters on the beds so you can choose your coziness level!

Hiking, fishing, mountain biking and skiing are all right out your door. Cute shops, delicious restaurants, the Arkansas River and more festivals than we can count will beckon you. Eat in or dine out. Barbeque in the backyard by the fire pit or eat dinner in front of a movie. Whatever your idea of rejuvenation, Find yourself at home. Bella Dragon is a perfect fit!

Close to downtown Salida - yet QUIET! Shop, dine, stroll in town, then escape the crowd as you head to this peaceful refuge just minutes away. We have suggestions for you furry friends while you spend the day on the mountain or backcountry! We love Apha Dog Care for day-care as well as Laura Holloway for in-home visits and hikes.

We are a mere phone call away for any concerns or questions before or during your stay!

About Wendy Walters

I'm a writer and my husband David is a software engineer. We've been married for 19 years, have 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks - who are our babies - and an ornery tabby cat. We love the Colorado lifestyle and can't imagine living anywhere else! Once we discovered Salida, we knew that the combination of small town feeling, breathtaking natural beauty and a thriving community was where we wanted to be. We hope you enjoy our home!

Wendy Walters purchased this house in 2013

Why Wendy Walters chose South Central

Having lived in Colorado since 1999, we have seen much of the state. We have always gravitated towards mountain towns but have found most of them to be either too small, too touristy, too expensive - or even too cold. Salida has it all - great restaurants, stunning beauty, conveniences yet a true sense of getting away!

What makes this house unique

Too many to list! She's a looker, we must say. The bold colors beckoned us, we entered the cozy sunroom and our shoulders start to relax, then we stepped into the bright open living room and entered a sanctuary! With hardwood floors throughout, a wood burning fireplace, high ceilings, a claw foot tub. rich yet funky colors in the bedrooms - and a private backyard with a fire pit, we knew we found home. Add in the character of an old home, and Bella Dragon is a prize!

Wonderful House, Highly Recommended

Would definitely rent this home again without hesitation. Kristen was very good to work with. Home has a great feel to it and is well maintained, well stocked and a great backyard area. No problems whatsoever. Very enjoyable place to stay.

Wonderful house - plenty of room to relax

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The house itself is quite spacious - with plenty of room to spread out, play games, read, nap, or whatever everyone is in to. The back yard is a great retreat space too. Our kids and dog enjoyed playing back there while we BBQd. And it is about a 10 minute walk to downtown or the farmer's market. Having the A/C unit in the attic bedroom was so great. Beds are comfy too! We will be back in the coming years.

We will return the Bella Dragon!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this home.. and "Home" is exactly how it felt. It was accommodating for our dog and Kiddo. The house is thoughtfully stocked with all of the necessities you don't realize you need.... until you need them. Pots, pans, towels etc.

The decor is beautiful and the beds are really comfortable, clean and tidy.

It is within walking distance to all kinds of activities and downtown Salida. We enjoyed walking our dog through town and eating at one of the many "pet-friendly" restaurants. Fishing, Mountain biking, Stand up paddleboards are all within 10 minutes of you front door.

Oasis in Salida

  • 5 of 5

Great house in downtown Salida. We were four weary Great Divide bikers needing to refuel and rejuvenate. The communication with our hostess Kristen was excellent. The house was clean and had local art hanging throughout. The house had great outdoor spaces for coffee in the morning and dinner at night. We especially liked having a washer / dryer to clean up. The house does have just one bathroom but that worked out ok as well. Overall, I would recommend this house to friends.

Best backyard ever!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house! The decor is awesome and has a lot of local art. The atmosphere is so pleasant! The backyard won our hearts! We headed out back first thing in the morning and also whenever we came home during the day! Fenced in, shaded, deck, grill, patio furniture, fire pit...perfect for people and dogs! Kristen was so nice and accommodating! She was super attentive to all the little details that made our stay great! Highly recommended!!

“Sweetly unpretentious” that’s Salida. Those are the words Outside Magazine used to describe Salida in 2004 as one of their “Dream Towns and Adventure Hideouts.”

We definitely agree!

Salida does have a lot to offer – to residents, visitors, and those considering relocation. A community of 5,500 is surrounded by Forest Service and Department of Wildlife lands, a haven for bikers, campers, hikers, skiers, and hunters. It is a lovely natural setting with several converging mountain ranges that boast 15 peaks that reach over 14,000 feet in elevation. The Arkansas River winds its way through the valley and along the downtown of Salida; inviting rafters, kayakers, fishers, and “beach lovers” alike. Known for a mild climate, Salida is a perfect setting for your outdoor adventure.

Salida’s charming downtown area, the largest historical downtown district in Colorado, is home to blocks of Victorian buildings with fantastic restaurants, inspiring galleries, tempting boutiques, outdoor sports stores, and an array of shops for kitchen, kids, books, knitters and quilters. It’s a great place to stock up or find a unique gift to take home.

Salida hosts an impressive calendar of performing arts and special events including great theater productions, a fantastic array of music at coffee shops, taverns, Salida High School’s John Held Auditorium, or the Salida Steamplant Performing Arts Center and Conference Center.

Sweetly unpretentious? Maybe. A vibrant community? Absolutely.

(thanks to the Salida Chamber of Commerce for a fabulous description of our favorite mountain town)

Dresser outside of bathroom so everyone has room to store their toiletries. Please note, we have installed grab bars for easy entry and exit of the tub/shower but some of our "more mature" guests have said it requires steadiness as it is a high sided classic clawfoot tub. We supply a rubber bath mat for those who wish as well.
