Quintessential Charleston

Our family enjoyed the carriage house very much - the living area was comfortable and a gracious space to be together. The beds were comfortable and the location was just a short walk to anywhere in Charleston. We would definitely love to come stay again!

A Gem in the Heart of Charleston

Every aspect of this property is amazing. It’s hard to say if the property (design, comfort, overall vibe) is the main attraction or the location (beautiful neighborhood, blocks away from the heart of the city). We truly fell in love. I will ALWAYS come back here- worth every penny.

Charming and well appointed

My mother and I stayed in the carriage house with my daughters (13,11) over the winter break. The house is so charming and well appointed, providing everything we needed for an enjoyable stay in Charleston. We all agreed that the beds were very comfortable and the garden area was so beautiful to look out onto. Would absolutely stay here again on a return trip!

It was so great to get away and relax in this charming city.

This carriage house was just perfect- we parked and never drove again. Everything is within 1 mile. There was an amazing coffee shop down the street that we went to every day, we enjoyed amazing seafood, did a walking food tour, took a boat tour for some Charleston history- it was the perfect getaway. This place was home away from home.

Magical week

Gibbon House was a perfect location from which to explore Charleston. Many things were within an easy 15 minute walk in either direction. It was also easy to get to Shemms Creek, Sullivan's, Foley, and Sullivan's Beach. Would definitely recommend the carriage house and its owner who was a wonderful host and his fabulous ambassador, Sierra.

Southern Charm

The most charming house! From the moment we stepped through the door, we were enveloped in a sense of comfort and tranquility that truly made our vacation memorable. The atmosphere that was created here is nothing short of beautiful. Every detail, from the elegant decor to the cozy furnishings, contributed to an ambiance that felt both luxurious and inviting. Whether we were relaxing in the living room or enjoying a meal in the well-appointed kitchen, we couldn't help but feel right at home. Thank you for providing such a wonderful retreat for our time in Charleston. We leave with cherished memories and a deep appreciation for your hospitality. We hope to have the opportunity to return someday soon.

Happy in Harleston

It’s a bit scary to take a rental for 17 days. What if you get it wrong? Well, we got it right. The carriage house is as advertised. It’s stylish, comfortable and just the spot you hope for. For us, and out dog, it was ideal in every regard. It only has one full bath and it might get a bit cozy for more than two adults for more than a few days. We have no complaints and will have the happiest of memories.

Great place with a few problems

Everything others have said about the place is true. Good location, historic structure. Owners receptive to tv problems which were that local tv did not work first 2 days and cable last day. The only reason not giving 5 star is the dog poop that has been mentioned by others as well. It is a problem in the gravel drive and entry to the house. Need flashlight to avoid at night. If you can't carry your suitcase the gravel is also a problem for rollers.

Beautiful and relaxing

From the quaint courtyard to the luxurious bedding this carriage house was everything we could have wished for on our recent long weekend. The modern renovation of this carriage house was amazing; it is exactly as advertised. It is just a few blocks from the university, downtown shopping and waterfront, a quiet neighborhood to jog. The kitchen is fully stocked with appliances and gadgets for the gourmet cook, we only wish we could have stayed longer to cook, but the short walk past the historical homes to the many superb restaurants and coffee shops was just too convenient. Although we didn't have a car, I would think there would be no problem navigating the short driveway for any of today's compact/mid-size vehicles.. Only recommendation to future travelers is that the neighborhood streets are a bit dark at night, and street signs a little hard to read - a small flashlight will come in handy. Will definitely plan to stay here again. It was a great find!

Immersive Charleston Experience!

My daughter and I had the pleasure of staying at Casa Zoe, aka The Carriage House for a mother/daughter getaway. Check in process was seamless. Host was cobra quick in responding to all questions both before and during our stay. Also, he recommended nearby restaurants and we will both be eternally grateful for his recommendation of soft shell crab! So very good! We loved the property! It is indeed an authentic carriage house that has been renovated so that it both charming and comfortable. Upon entering , you feel the history and can imagine “how things were”. When I research my VRBO’s I read EVERY review. One person had mentioned that the floor boards had gaps. To me that elevates this place. It was a carriage house and the upstairs was probably used for storing feed. Way cool! If you want a cookie cutter hotel there are plenty in Charleston! Parking is easy, the spot it right there. It is quiet, yet easy walking distance to top attractions. I walked to the Battery every morning, We particularly loved the outdoor courtyard for wine and snacks in the evening. A great place to relax, and once again very private. I have been to Charleston about a dozen times and this was, by far, my favorite place to stay! My daughter declared she wanted to live there. Will definitely be back!

Unique Space but Too Many Spiders and a Gecko

Positives: 1) The place is very charming, unique and is 100% what you think of when you think of Charleston, SC. 2) Close to King Street Negatives: 1) Spiders and Geckos: Once inside we found gecko poop and later the gecko himself. Lots of spider webs in the old rafters, around the base of the beds, and in the cracks between the floor and exterior walls. Enough spiders that it even made me uncomfortable to stay and spiders don't typically bother me. My niece and wife weren't having it so we left to stay elsewhere. 2) Parking: Another reason we left is we could not get our suburban parked due to the very tight parking space and other vehicles already parked there. If you have a small vehicle, parking is fine but not if you have a longer vehicle. They did refund us a partial refund of about 30% which I didn't feel was enough. The spider problem was bad enough that there was no way we were staying even after they removed the gecko. If someone cleaned the space prior to our arrival they should have taken care of the spider issue and noticed the gecko poop and had it removed. I can't imagine staying somewhere where it's ok to have the spiders and gecko. We pushed hard for a full refund due to these issues but the landlord's agent was unwilling to budge, thus the need for this review. I'm not one to leave reviews at all but this was an expensive per night stay to have these issues and most places would have dealt with these issues prior to the customers arrival. The only way to deal with the spiders is to spray and I don't want to stay there directly after the spraying.

Nice property needs work and better check-in communications

I spent 30 minutes looking around the property and adjoining property to find the mailbox where the key was to be located as per our check-in instructions. Called person I was supposed to contact if an issue and received a text back that they could not talk. Reached out to the other POC and got a delayed response as she later informed she was picking up children from camp. In the interim, tried the back doors and they were unlocked and found a key inside on the kitchen table. There was no mailbox as instructions indicated. The cabinets in the kitchen do not close all the way and we bumped are heads on a couple of occasions. Bathroom sink cold water handle leaked and the floors upstairs had enough space you could see through to the main floor. Additionally, I texted to inquire about coffee accessories prior to arrival and was informed the property had all that was needed to make coffee. However, we were disappointed to find there was only one coffee filter for a 3 day rental and barely enough coffee beans. We had to make an unplanned trip to the grocery store. Normally, I do not write a review, but when we checked out and I advised we would be leaving unlocked with key on the table as we found it, no one even had the courtesy to respond nor address the issues with check in
