No, we're not on the RiverWalk but we do have over a mile of San Antonio River frontage. Our home is located in the country away from city noises and congestion. However, we are only 15 minutes from the Riverwalk, Alamo Dome, The Alamo, SBC Center (Home of the San Antonio Spurs), Joe Freeman Coliseum and other exiting places and events in San Antonio. Sea World and Fiesta Texas are only 30 minutes away and Schlitterbaum, America's #1 Water Park is only an hour away.
We are situated on 110 acres with over a mile of San Antonio River frontage. Several nice areas have been cleared for fishing and/or swimming. Hiking and biking have been favorites for many who have stayed here. We are minutes from the Rodeo held in San Antonio every February. We have found many arrow heads and other Indian artifacts on our property.
This is a large spacious home (4,200 square feet) with lots of open areas. There is a courtyard in the front of the house, a terrace outside two of the three bedrooms and a large back porch perfect with an adjoining deck for cook-outs and entertaining. There is also a hot tub with access from 2 of the 3 bedrooms.
The large family room has a 70 inch big screen TV with surround sound. The large living room has a sofa bed and a large 32 inch TV. The dining room will seat 20-22 people comfortably.
We do require a $300.00 security deposit upon arrival. This will be returned to you when you depart if everything is left in good order and there are no damages. We also require a $125.00 cleaning fee.
Jack and Margaret enjoy sharing their home with others. We are an elderly couple with 5 children and 13 grandchildren. The family enjoys being at the house for parties and holidays. We host several parties a year for family and friends. Great place for entertaining.
Margaret Heinesh purchased this house in 2002
Located on 110 acres with the San Antonio River as a border on one side, we are in the country yet only 8 miles from Brooks City Base where you find restraurants, shopping, banks, gas, hospital - everything you need.
We are within 25 minutes (more or less) of Lackland AFB and Ft. Sam Houston. Families of graduates get a 10% discount.
We are blessed with all kinds of wildlife. The Cardinals frequent our back yard. You can hear the Owls at dusk and the Peacock sounds off on a nightly basis. When walking the trails you might see squirrels, racoons, wild turkeys and wild hogs. The river provides a haven for ducks and has given up quite a bit of catfish, perch and bass.
This property was a secluded, quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The property was clean and provided us with many different activities if we did not want to make the short drive into town and just wanted peaceful time to relax. Margaret and Jack were great from the time we reserved their home, providing us with maps around the area for great places to eat and sites to see, and answering any questions that we had. This is a large property that is quiet and secluded, but yet close enough to town for any site-seeing or activities. Margaret and Jack are awesome people with an awesome property - really enjoyed our stay!!
Our family totally enjoyed this property. The house was spacious and had the feel of home away from home. The outdoor accomodations were ideal for nature lovers and city folk alike. The owners we amazing..friendly but respectful of our privacy.
We were VERY pleased with the location and the property. If you dont like the city noise then this is your property. Loved the pit that we did smores in. The river is literally in the back yard and we enjoyed swimming in it almosy daily. Jack and Margaret were very courteous and respectful of our space. Jack even helped me unlock the keys from my trunk after my kiddo accidentally locked them in there while putting things in that we were taking down to the river. We loved this place so much that we are going back this summer!
The stay was nice, however, the only thing that we did not like was that we did not know at the time of leasing this house that the owners lived in the same house you lease. Making very uncomfortable. They are very nice people but just knowing that you do not have complete privacy made it uncomfortable for us.
Our family of 4 uses Spring Break as an opportunity to sort of "explore" the US. We choose a state to which we've never been, and check it out. From San Diego to Homosassa - our week at Jack and Margaret's San Antonio house is at the top of the list!
In March/April - we were THRILLED to have the weather 80+ degrees the entire week! Us Hoosiers really needed that vitamin D after the world's longest winter! (In fact, we're still dipping into the 30's at night and it's almost May! Maybe we'll go back to Jack & Margaret's!)
With just 4 of us, we had a TON of room in this house! With Jack and Margaret living on the property, we weren't sure what to think initially. However, we discovered that you truly only interact with them as much as you WANT to (and we wanted to...they can tell you a lot about the history of the property.)
The property is huge so if you're up for exploring - you won't be disappointed. We found an arrow head on the riverbank our 2nd day! (In total, we found all kinds of fun "treasures.") There are scads of photo opportunities - cactus, cardinals, landscape....it lowers my blood pressure just picturing it. Grab a cup of coffee & sit on the deck and just listen to the birds....(why do we see ONE cardinal at a time in Indiana, but in San Antonio Margaret manages to get "flocks" of them in the back yard? They must like her as much as we did!)
The city itself is not far at all. In fact, we LOVE finding houses outside the city so we can really have our own space. As everyone said, the riverwalk was beautiful. Again, maybe we're biased since in Indiana (in March) everything was brown and crunchy...so flowers and grass were a real treat for us! :) But ducks....people outside....dogs on the riverwalk....ahhhh......
THE DRIVE-THRU SAFARI!!!! DO IT!!!!! Get your camera ready, you seriously can get shots practically in the nostrils of these animals since their heads are INSIDE your car windows! LOVE!!!!
San Antonio - Spring Break 2014 - will surely be one we never forget. The boys were 16 and 10....we explored, fished, swam (ok, the boys did - but we were wimpy bc the water was cold!), cooked out, hot tubbed, took pictures, had dinner inside and outside...coffee on the GIANT deck....listened to animals....veg'd in front of their mammoth tv (we got home and laughed at how small ours seemed!)....strangely, we love that we were able to do laundry! Who doesn't love going home w/ clean clothes?! Yay!
Anyway - thanks, Jack and Margaret!
This was one of the best vacations my family has ever had! The house was beautiful, clean and the owners were more than accommodating to our large group! We were only there for 3 nights, but enjoyed every minute. Jack and Margaret made sure we felt at home in their home, and they went above and beyond to make sure the children in our group had a great time! We can't wait to go back!! Thanks so much for a great getaway!
