School: North Hardin High School, University of Louisville, University of Denver

Work :Nuance Communications, Nuance

About Joyce: grew up in rural Kentucky on a dairy farm. Went to college at University of Louisville and ended up traveling the world as a computer consultant. :-) Speaks fluent English and Spanish and some French. Michael: grew up in Virginia and is a graduate of Annapolis and Univ. of Oregon. He is a history buff, loves the outdoors, and sports - of course - golf, 8-oar rowing, marksmanship, skiing. He speaks English and Spanish.

Joyce and Michael Omohundro purchased this chateau / country house in 2013

Why Joyce and Michael Omohundro chose South Central

We looked for 2 years before purchasing Soaring Eagle. We wanted beautiful scenery, serenity (no road noise - just the wind in the trees). We wanted to see wildlife: deer, elk, antelope, fox, bobcat, etc. It has wonderful water - its own well so we are able to have a lovely garden in front of our house.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The home has southern exposures and views from almost every room. The interior is paneled and has a wood smell when you walk in. I love the flow of the house. From the deck we have a plethora of hummingbirds and other local birds in the summer. They look like flying jewels. :-)

Off the beaten Track, Comfort in ranch country

  • 4 of 5

This is a very well equipped and comfortable home. It accommodated two couples and two young children with ease. The views are tremendous. We were a little unlucky and saw very little wildlife. The opportunities for hiking are limited and local attractions require much driving. However well recommended as a pleasant retreat from urban living.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately there is no way to transport our 80 acres and the mountain views to town! :-) (smile) We post on the site our distance from Canon City (about 50 to 55 minutes) and from white water rafting (25 to 30 minutes). We also remind our prospective guests of this when we approve their stay in case they didn't read that on the website so that they will be sure to understand our location before they book. We look forward to having you return. Thank you for the review and for staying with us.

Remote but beautiful and Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Soaring Eagle was an extremely beautiful property. You overlook miles and miles and miles of lovely mountains. The sunrises and sunsets will truly create memories for you. When sitting on the back deck all you can hear is the chirping of the birds. It is however quite a drive to get out there. So if you're looking for convenience to town this is not the spot for you. It is about an hours drive to get to zip lining and white water rafting.

On the drive however we saw a bear, antelope, wild turkeys, deer, and we love the free range cattle just roaming all over.

Having Joyce and Michael stay on the property is not a big deal at all they are very helpful and will let you know exactly what you need to do. If you are looking for a slice of heaven this is the place to stay.

The house is extremely beautiful and very well-stocked. They have thought of everything. So I highly recommend this property if you're looking for peace and quiet. One last thing, sitting in the hot tub looking up at the stars was truly an amazing experience.

Remote, with exceptional views! Bring binoculars !!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place for us! We really enjoyed being out in the country for the breathtaking views, star filled skies, and wandering animals. The place is remote, so will take a bit to get to and from town, but this was not a concern for us. Not sure why the other reviews are toned negative that the owners are present, and living below you. They were great people and an excellent, readily resource, for knowledge around the area. The homeowners' only concern was to make sure we were enjoying our stay, and we did! We really appreciated the fact that they were willing to share their home!

Canon City cabin review

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was wonderful. The cabin has everything needed for a great stay. The kitchen is very well stocked with quality pots, pans, dishes and many other items. The furniture is very comfortable, including the beds! The hot tub is quite nice. Temperature was perfect, the water was clean and everything worked well. We also saw a wide variety of wildlife including deer, turkey and elk. The owners were nice and helpful. Our stay was very enjoyable. We would most certainly rent this property again.

Fabulous views but owners are on property

  • 4 of 5

If you're looking for a quiet getaway in Southern Colorado, then this is a great place to come! 6000 acre ranch and they own about 80 acres themselves. Joyce and Michael were VERY ACCOMODATING even when I mistakenly said two adults but there four of us. (First time using HomeAway) they didn't charge us extra and were very friendly and even stayed up until 1030 to greet us after we drove from Denver. The only down side is that I didn't realize they lived on site. If I would have read the comments, I would have known but I recommend that it be placed in the description as well. I did not feel 100% privacy. We felt like we had to whisper and could not play music loudly late at night. Again no fault of their own, we were just being respectful - we never heard or saw them during the weekend. They have their own entrance. Wildlife was awesome. And great hiking. Clean house! Beautiful wood beams! Another recommendation is to have hot tub turned on and ready for guests after a long drive it would be nice to relax in. Thank you Joyce and Michael for sharing your home!

Owner's Response: Sarah, I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay. Sorry you missed the part in the description that says that we live the in the walkout. It has its own entrance and exit. We allow our guests complete privacy and only interact if they ask us to. I remember telling you that the space between the main two floors and the walkout are insulated and that there was no need to be concerned about music, conversations or noise. Obviously, you still felt uncomfortable and we are sorry to hear that. Thank you for your feedback. - Joyce and Michael
