About Dana Blizzard

Nick and Dana Blizzard own 5 Splitrock with Dana's parents Dave and Carol VanSchepen since 2006, both our family's live on the West Side of Portland Metro Area.

Dana & Nick met at Hillsboro High School and continued education together at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. Now they live in NW Portland with their 2 kids and own Blizzard Wines where they make small lot premium NW wines. The winery is in nearby Hillsboro where Dave & Carol live on the family vineyard growing premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wine grapes since 1981 - Dana makes the wine, Nick does the winery marketing and also has his own web design business, Dave is retired and manages the vineyard, while Carol is an Adult Nurse Practitioner in Salem, OR. Dave and Carol grew up in Lafayette IN, but have been in the NW since 1974. We love to head to Sunriver to spend time with friends and family, and enjoy the outdoors. Nick is an avid paraglider pilot and mountain biker, Dana loves to run and recently climbed her first 10,000+ ft mountain (South Sister, near Sunriver). Dave and Carol like to spend time with their 4 grandkids, go kayaking on the Deschutes and get together with their Sunriver coffee buddies.

Dana Blizzard purchased this house in 2006

Why Dana Blizzard chose Deer Park

Carol had been coming to work conferences in Sunriver for years and fell in love with the 300+ days of sun/year, the bike paths, the central Oregon air. It was easy to convince the rest of us that it was a great place to vacation - there is so much to do!

What makes this house unique

We love the open floor plan, the large deck off the back, private hot tub, the bike path that leads us right to the north store where we get a hot cup of coffee. Heading to the SHARC is always a favorite for the kids.

Nice, but AC would have made it nicer

  • 5 of 5

We happened to be in Sunriver during some very warm weather and the house has no AC. It was hard to keep it comfortable, day or night, despite the ceiling fans in nearly every room. Otherwise, it is laid out well and in a great location--on a quiet cul de sac on one side and the bike trail on the other. It was a very short walk to the nearest market, tennis courts and pool. A deer was in the yard much of the time. The kitchen was quite well equipped. We enjoyed our stay. It had been years since i had been to Sunriver, but now I plan to come back regularly.

Not a good house for summer

  • 3 of 5

The house has no AC, which is fine, if it weren't for the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms having no ventilation. There was a floor and ceiling fan in those rooms, but it didn't help much. Plus shades were broken upon arrival allowing minimal light and air. Several small repairs needed throughout house. With that said, the main room and deck were roomy and games in the garage added fun for our family. The owner is nice and responsive to guests.

Owner's Response: All the bedrooms have windows that fully open with screens and shades, and there are fans in every bedrooms so that the rooms can be cooled off at night (average low temp in July and Aug is 47 degrees). During this stay, one of the bedrooms did have a window blind which the pull string had come out and therefore could not be easily opened, and will be repaired.

Fun weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

Even though our stay was short we had a great time. We went to the Sharc using the passes and had lots of fun but we will have to come back in the summer when all the outdoor activities are in season. We then had a quiet night in. Used the BBQ to grill hamburgers and played some of the games in the living room. I love the fireplace in the living room. I also really like the layout of this house as the dinning room, kitchen, living room and front room are all open. The master bed was very comfortable and had really nice sheets and blankets. Everything was very clean and cleaning supplies and extra toilet paper and garbage bags were easy to find. We will return again soon.

Great location with well equipped kitchen

  • 4 of 5

The setting is great with large windows and lots of wildlife coming by. Well equipped kitchen and large rooms. Furniture and linens could use some updating.

Clean, comfortable, and helpful (with a few disappointments)

  • 4 of 5

We appreciated Dana being so accommodating with our check-in time, which really helped our short stay. The house was clean and mostly well stocked except for no sheets for the pull-out couch that we could find anywhere we looked. Also, the hot tub was unusable (water was cloudy and looked unsafe). We loved the comfortable couches and beautiful location, especially the back porch. It would be nice however to have had a DVD player in the living room, there was only one in a bedroom (that we found). We made do with what we had but it would have helped to have one and were surprised there wasn't one.

Thanks for a nice place to stay with our group on a retreat! We really did appreciate the space.

Great vacation home for 6 of us!!!

  • 5 of 5

We met my brothers family here since it was about a halfway point for the both of us for a weeks vacation. The house was perfect size for 6 of us plus a dog. The house is well supplied with everything including bikes to use on the miles and miles of bike paths which is right out the back. The house was mostly clean except for one of the sinks in the master bathroom was filthy and the rugs also could of used a wash too. Overall a great stay.
