Uckeritz was head of the class in charm school
Uckeritz is one of a string of compact vacation resorts on the idyllic German/Polish island of Usedom, all linked together by one of the loveliest fine-sand beaches you'll ever come across. Uckeritz vacation rentals don't like to cramp your style with bustle and noise—it's the kind of place where you can pass your time stretched out on the sand, hiking in the forest, drinking coffee by the cute little harbor, or nosing around quaint local museums. With any luck, you'll unwind so far that you'll never manage to wind back up again.
Expect the unexpected with an Uckeritz vacation
If there's one attraction you might not anticipate finding in a small Baltic island resort, it's a museum of Chinese culture. Nevertheless, Uckeritz has one. The main focus is on the Terracotta Army, with recreations of the original model soldiers using authentic materials and techniques, but the collection also includes Chinese weapons and gorgeous jade sculptures. For something a bit more active for the entire family, head just outside town to Kletterwald Usedom to find roped climbing routes up in the trees where you can safely unleash your inner chimpanzee.
Get leaves in your hair and sand in your shoes
Uckeritz vacation rentals are all about slowing things down and getting back to nature. It's perfect hiking and mountain biking terrain, with miles of forest trails, and tracks across the coastal dunes where you're bound to get sand in your boots. If one thing's for sure, though, it's that sooner or later you'll end up on the beach. Insulated from the main resort by a thick belt of forest, Amber Beach is the kind of spot you wish you'd found sooner in life, with an incredible 12 km of gorgeous, uncrowded sand looking out toward the Baltic Sea.
The island with an unlikely claim to fame
When it comes to the weather, Uckeritz vacation rentals offer up something a bit unusual. This gentle little island up in the Baltic gets more hours of sunshine each year than anywhere else in Germany or Poland. That's not to say it's scorching hot (you're in the Baltic, after all), but summers are deliciously clear and warm. Come winter, the cooler weather rolls in, but it never gets ferociously cold. Whatever time of year you turn up, there's a decent amount of rainfall on Usedom, so don't set off out hiking without stuffing a raincoat in your pack.
Take a look-see at the Wockninsee, nature lovers
The island of Usedom is just off the coast of Germany, with its north edge facing the Baltic Sea. Half the island belongs to Poland, with the border only 30 minutes' drive from Uckeritz. While many of the settlements on Uckeritz debuted as vacation resorts a 100 or so years ago, you won't be seeing urban high-rise hotels and rowdy seaside clubs 'round here. Think forests, dunes, sandy beaches, and picturesque little villages. Nature lovers will want to check out the wetlands of the Wockninsee preserve, where you'll find rare wildflowers and a walking trail.
