About Marilyn Pratt

In 1969 Ralph and Jossie 'Sallah' Pratt bought this house. They raised their six of their nine children here and opened their doors to Gloucester daily to share stories and enjoy what is best about being apart of Gloucester.

In 2007 my wife and I bought the home to celebrate them and share this special home with others. This home is special. As grandchildren of Ralph and Jossie we enjoy fond memories of sunny summer and fall days and nights sitting around enjoying the warmth of this home and all those who entered.

Marilyn Pratt purchased this house in 2007

Why Marilyn Pratt chose North of Boston & Greater Merrimack Valley

As a fifth generation Gloucester resident I have had the blessings of travelling across the USA and have always felt a deep love for this community and growing up in this house as the grandson of Ralph and Jossie Pratt wanted to help people come and experience Gloucester in a home that helps create the best experiences of 'home' for those who visit.

Come to Gloucester and stay at our home so you can feel the warmth of Gloucester like a real member of the community.

Perfect place for a family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We planned this trip in celebration of our parents 40th wedding anniversary. In total our group was 8 adults and three children (all under the age of 3). The house had plenty of room for our large group and Marilyn was a wonderful host. My husband and I arrived earlier than anticipated, due to unforseen renovations on the commuter rail and Marilyn was able to meet us when we got to the house. There are two driveways (perfect for the three cars that we had, no one ever had to move to let another vehicle out), a big back yard and a huge deck. Five bedrooms and three full baths worked great for our large group. The finished basement (with air hockey, a bar top, and pub table) was perfect for the adults to hang out once the kids were put to bed. Because of the size of our group, and age of the little ones, we ate in most nights. We made good use of the grill outside and even did our own lobster boil. The house is about a mile from town and it was a nice walk that we did more then once. Stage Fort Park is directly across the street and we spent a lot of time there- walking the waterfront, watching all of the boats, playing on the playground and beach. There are bocce ball courts and tennis courts at the park, and Marilyn had a bocce set as well as some tennis racquets. There is lots of information provided by the host about local activities and restaurants. I would highly recommend The Pratt House to anyone staying in the area. Thank you so much for hosting us! Practically perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

We have probably rented 2 dozen or so homes over the years. This home is probably the top 3 best overall. It's hard to compare apples to apples when it comes to location, so I will focus on the physical aspects of the home and the homeowner, who also manages the property.

Honestly, there is absolutely nothing that could have been better. The home has tremendous character and is in pristine condition for being the age it is. It was SO clean. We have been in some homes where this was not the case, so this was very refreshing. Every nook and cranny was spotless. Additionally, the decor is *just* right and pieces have been thoughtfully chosen throughout the home. The shining star of the home is the beautiful piano. Although we chose not to play it, it is available to guests.

The landscaping was impeccable, both front and back. The backyard is massive and is fabulous for entertaining up to 12 people. Plenty of table space as well.

Although many people don't have to take care of business during a vacation, both my husband and I do because of the nature of what we do, so imagine our delight to find twin huge credenza desks off the main living area which made having to work much more bearable.

The kitchen is ample for preparation and is well-stocked with the essentials for cooking. There are a lot of functional entertaining pieces for guests' use as well, which was nice.

We only used two of the five bedrooms, but noticed all were decorated nicely with a bright, cheery air which echoed throughout the home.

The formal dining room table seats I believe 8 people (may have been 6 chairs, though, I can't recall exactly.) The colorful floral table arrangement centerpiece was the perfect accent to the space.

The homeowner is beyond helpful and wonderful to work with. We had to shorten our stay due to work obligations and yet she graciously offered to let us keep the remaining nights so we wouldn't have to find somewhere else to stay. Additionally, once we checked out, she returned the deposit immediately, like the next day. We are still staying in the area and she actually hand delivered it. THAT is amazing service! She was also available throughout our stay to answer any questions we had.

I will say the proximity of the home to downtown Gloucester is one of the best perks (it's about a mile away). Plus, being directly across from Stage Fort Park was so convenient for daily walks.

We highly recommend this property. You will not be disappointed!

Fabulous Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We can not say enough good things about this vacation and the pivotal part the Pratt House played in it. We were a party of 11. The beds were well sized and arranged to accommodate 6 adults and 5 young children (2.5-8 years old). I was fearful from pictures that I would have to constantly protect the house from the active children, but the home is sturdy and practical for them.

The backyard was a huge and fabulous outlet for their energies. We ate outside the first few nights until the weather no longer permitted.

The owners were very friendly and responsive to any of our needs.

The location is unbeatable. Across the street is a huge beautiful park as well as the harbor. The heart of downtown is a very short walk away, with great restaurants and nice shops. Hammond Castle is super close and a must see.

Every adult in our party would return to this home again in a heartbeat!!

What An Incredible Find!

  • 5 of 5

We were scheduled to attend a wedding at the new Beauport Hotel and a family member found this stunning home less than a mile down the road. It's a historic home with all the great "bone structure" and architectural detail and charm of a historic home, but it's completely updated in terms of amenities and beautiful decor, including a wonderful updated kitchen w/washer & dryer, three full baths (great water pressure), five bedrooms (8 beds that can sleep 10-12) plus a futon. It has a beautiful living room area, in-kitchen dining and dining room, finished basement and a huge yard. I loved the fact that there are driveways on both sides of the house that belong to the house. 10 of us stayed and we were able to have other family members come and hang during down hours between wedding functions. Marilyn is an exceptional host. Throughout the home, you'll find these really helpful notes about how things work, where light switches are, what to do about locking up, where to find things--really thoughtful. She'll walk you through and set you up with everything you need and what to do when you check out. We were the envy of the wedding guests because we paid a lot less per person than a hotel room would have cost and we were able to buy groceries and beverages for the weekend too. There are NO downsides to this fantastic property. Total find.

Perfect Places with Great Host

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here one week and it was truly our pleasure. The home is close to downtown Gloucester. Marilyn met us upon our arrival to give us keys and go through the home to show us around. Beautiful home - the kind you feel cozy staying in, even though it is quite spacious. Would like to stay here again sometime - it made our trip visiting family in Gloucester that much more enjoyable. Thank You Marilyn!
