About christina cahill
My 3 sisters and I purchased this lovely home in 2001. We all live in New York City but get out to Shelter Island as much as we possibly can. We adore the house and hope you will too. It is comfy and cozy and the perfect base for appreciating the simple pleasures, tranquility and low key pace of Shelter Island, exploring the North or South forks, or simply relaxing at home. The house is a year round getaway affording rest and relaxation in every season.

Why christina cahill chose The Heights
Exceptional location. The house is a five minute walk to the ferry and located in the heart of a historic village, dominated by quaint and charming Victorian gingerbread cottages. Nothing like a ritual walk through the Heights to admire the historic architecture. Restaurants and shops are a stone's throw away, as is access to countless outdoor activities including the beach, tennis, swimming and golf. Andre Balazs' famed Sunset Beach, the Perlman Music Camp and Historic Sylvester Manor can be reached by foot in under half an hour or with a quick bike ride. The house is charming and exceedingly comfortable. Bright and airy in the summer and cozy in the winter. Truly a year round house to be enjoyed in every season.
What makes this Cottage unique
Shelter Island is entirely unique. A slice of the best of New England in a small island between the middle of the North and South Forks of Long Island. A playground for adults and children alike, with easy access to outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, kayaking, sailing, swimming, golf and horseback riding. Shelter Island is also home to Mashomack Nature Preserve, a wonderful place for walks and to Itzhak Perlman's Perlman Music Camp. The historic Sylvester Manor is also well worth a visit. Easy access to fine dining options such as Vine Street and Sunset Beach, nightlife and shopping options. Conveniently located close to Greenport and Orient on the South fork, or the charming Sag Harbor on the South fork. Ready access to the Ocean beaches in the Hamptons.

Owner is so hospitable. Home is outstanding and the location on Shelter couldn't be better.
The home is so cute. The back porch is to die for. The little town is amazing. Rent it; you will not be disapointed.
Perfect first time to Shelter
The location of this charming house is absolutely perfect for a first timer like us. It 's relaxing, calm, and beautiful like most of the island but has the added benefit of being central to the shops, coffee, sandwich joint, wine shop, north ferry, and walking the heights (where the old victorians are). Basically - it's a perfect location. The owners - 3 sisters are delightful to work with and were extremely courteous both pre-arrival and of our privacy once there.
Wonderful escape on Shelter Island
We rented this charming house with friends for a wedding on the island. We loved the house and wished we had stayed longer. Both stylish and cozy. We felt very welcome by the owners who could not have been more accommodating. Highly recommend!.
A quintessential New England summer resort island. Charming and historic with beautiful sea and landscapes. A cross between Nantucket, Block Island and the Hamptons. Island is between the North and South (the Hamptons) forks of Long Island. Easy access (5 or 10 minutes on the ferry) to the towns of Greenport on the North Fork and Sag Harbor on the South Fork, both of which are charming and well worth the visit. Regular ferry access. North Fork is known for its wineries. South fork known for the Hamptons and Ocean beaches.
