Family Friendly Glidden Drive Beach Retreat on Lake Michigan

Bedrooms 2
Half Baths2
Space 1,100 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 full bath, 2 half baths, Sleeps 10

We purchased this home on beautiful Glidden Drive just about 3 years ago. Our family has ties to this area going back generations. Glidden Drive is a secluded scenic road 10 miles east of downtown Sturgeon Bay on Lake Michigan. Our home sits up on a small bluff overlooking rolling sand dunes with 180 feet of sandy beach shore front. It's nestled among pine and birch trees. The closest neighbors are 2 lots away in either direction. There are unobstructed expansive views of Lake Michigan making it feel as if you are the only house on the beach. The sunrises here are stunning and different each day. In the autumn and winter, you can even see the changing colors during sunset despite the house's east facing direction.

It is our vacation home as well. It's fully stocked with linens, towels, some toiletries, pots&pans, silverware, serving ware, baking ware, a crockpot, a french press, glasses, mugs, plates, bowls, spices, cutting boards, tea kettle, place mats, etc.

There are 2 queen bed bedrooms, 1 full bath, 2 half baths, and a bonus room with 2 sets of twin beds. The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, oven, toaster oven, microwave and a coffee maker. Two dining areas will seat 14. There are three cozy couches in the 2 family rooms, one couch pulls out to a queen bed on the lower level. There is a washer and dryer. There are wood burning fireplaces in the upper and lower family rooms.

There are endless things to do in the area. Across the road, there are Nature Conservancy hiking trails. Just north about 10 miles is Cave Point County Park and Whitefish Dunes State Park. Just southwest about 10 miles is downtown Sturgeon Bay with shopping, a farmers market, restaurants, bars, YMCA, Door County Maritime Museum and much more. A boat launch is located 1.5 miles south on Glidden Drive.

About Jill Parak and Ryan Cantzler

My husband has been spending time in this area since he was a child, through him I also began to love Door County. In fall of 2013 we bought this home on a whim and look forward to family trips for years to come. I find it hard to go home after time spent on Glidden Drive, its so beautiful and peaceful.

A slice of paradise

We have stayed multiple times at this amazing home, most recently September 2018. We keep coming back because of its wonderful location and privacy, amazing views of Lake Michigan, beautiful beach front (sand dune included) and the owners are beyond nice. The house feels like a home and not a rental property and is close to Door County activities and restaurants. It is very clean and fully stocked with everything anyone would need, including many extras both inside and out (bikes, kayaks and paddle boards). We enjoyed making s’mores in the in ground fire pit and eating them in the spacious outdoor patio overlooking Lake Michigan. There is also a fireplace inside. The home is located near our favorite parks, Whitefish Dunes State Park and Cave Point County Park. The County Park has amazing Lake Michigan views of water caves and bluffs and great trails that lead into Whitefish Dunes State Park. The house is situated in a great location and is a wonderful place to reconnect with nature in a setting where you can view the ever changing and majestic Lake Michigan.

Beautiful home on the lake

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home right on Lake Michigan with a beach-type backyard. House came with great, extra amenities (kayaks, canoes, bikes, paddle boards and more). The house is also located about 5 miles from a grocery store, great for last-minute supplies, and about 15-20 minutes from Cave Point County Park and White Fish Dunes State Park. We were very satisfied with our stay and highly recommend it to anyone.

Great place!

  • 4 of 5

We really liked our stay here. It met all our needs and not having to bring your own sheets and towels was especially nice. Lots of activities and equipment for all ages. Firepit was wonderful and well used by us. Eating area was great too. Our only needs were: 1. the need for two showers (there is only 1 in the house). We had 7 adults and two children and with the sand beach it seemed like someone was always showering. 2. The sand areas were wonderful but the actual sand at the waterline is more like gravel and more difficult/painful to walk on. More of a rocky beach.

Owner's Response: Steve and Bonnie, thanks for the kind review. We are so happy your group enjoyed our home! Yes, we would LOVE a second shower in our home (in addition to a couple more bedrooms), it is on our growing wishlist of things to renovate in the future! Our beach on Lake Michigan is ever changing, one storm can change the beach from sand to pebble piles, so its hard to know what you are going to get. Our spring and summer trips this year were nearly all sand beach, but other years have been different. There has also been a lot of erosion with the higher lake levels this year and some homes on Glidden Drive have no beach at all, it goes from dune grass to lake. We are thankful for presence of a beach (although it is much nicer when its all sand). Take care and enjoy autumn, Jill

Great Stay!

  • 4 of 5

Our two families completely enjoyed our long weekend. The beach is wonderful and the house was great for 7 people. Not far from town and very private. Jill was very helpful and receptive. Definitely would go back if we are ever in the area again.

Thank you!

Comfortable, well-stocked house on a beautiful beach

  • 5 of 5

We love "the quiet side" of Door County, and this house was especially private and peaceful. We saw bald eagles and deer on the beach, which was great for swimming and long walks. The owners were very responsive to questions and had the house supplied with everything we needed. It was especially great to have kayaks, paddleboards, and bikes to play with!

Loved the beach! Great property for families!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the property immensely. As described the house is fully stocked with everything you could need for a family vacation. Everything was very clean. The beach felt secluded and private. We had little kids with us and they were huge fans of all the sand! We hope to be back someday!

Glidden Drive is a scenic road that hugs Lake Michigan Shoreline just northeast of Sturgeon Bay. Beautiful sunrises and miles of sandy beach await. Each season brings its own beauty; sledding on our dunes in the winter, hiking through cave point county park in spring, beach combing, fishing, kayaking in summer and taking a scenic drive for fall colors in autumn. There is always something to do.
