Description

Sturgeon Bay House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 1 full bath, 2 half baths, Sleeps 10

We purchased this home on beautiful Glidden Drive just about 3 years ago. Our family has ties to this area going back generations. Glidden Drive is a secluded scenic road 10 miles east of downtown Sturgeon Bay on Lake Michigan. Our home sits up on a small bluff overlooking rolling sand dunes with 180 feet of sandy beach shore front. It's nestled among pine and birch trees. The closest neighbors are 2 lots away in either direction. There are unobstructed expansive views of Lake Michigan making it feel as if you are the only house on the beach. The sunrises here are stunning and different each day. In the autumn and winter, you can even see the changing colors during sunset despite the house's east facing direction.

It is our vacation home as well. It's fully stocked with linens, towels, some toiletries, pots&pans, silverware, serving ware, baking ware, a crockpot, a french press, glasses, mugs, plates, bowls, spices, cutting boards, tea kettle, place mats, etc.

There are 2 queen bed bedrooms, 1 full bath, 2 half baths, and a bonus room with 2 sets of twin beds. The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, oven, toaster oven, microwave and a coffee maker. Two dining areas will seat 14. There are three cozy couches in the 2 family rooms, one couch pulls out to a queen bed on the lower level. There is a washer and dryer. There are wood burning fireplaces in the upper and lower family rooms.

There are endless things to do in the area. Across the road, there are Nature Conservancy hiking trails. Just north about 10 miles is Cave Point County Park and Whitefish Dunes State Park. Just southwest about 10 miles is downtown Sturgeon Bay with shopping, a farmers market, restaurants, bars, YMCA, Door County Maritime Museum and much more. A boat launch is located 1.5 miles south on Glidden Drive.

About Jill Parak and Ryan Cantzler

My husband has been spending time in this area since he was a child, through him I also began to love Door County. In fall of 2013 we bought this home on a whim and look forward to family trips for years to come. I find it hard to go home after time spent on Glidden Drive, its so beautiful and peaceful.

Beautiful location for a getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The house is perfect for a quiet getaway! Access to the beach and sand dunes is right outside of the patio door with lots of privacy. The view is so beautiful on sunny and rainy days. We spent a few nights at the house as a family of 4 with two kids under 5 years old. We loved how the house was well equipped to host everyone: comfortable beds, linens and towels, fully equipped kitchen, laundry, spacious living area. In addition, there were all of the necessities for traveling with small children, such as high chair, pack n play, kitchen cups/utensils, and even books. This house felt like visiting a home rather than getting a "rental". And the owners were only pleasure to deal with. We will not hesitate to book this property again!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the review. We are so pleased you and your family enjoyed your stay. Having lots of nieces and nephews and now our own little one, its so much easier to have all the kid gear at your fingertips while on vacation instead of lugging it all back and forth! We'd love to have your family back again.

Beautiful location, cozy home!

  • 5 of 5

The view of the beach was stupendous! Plenty of beach with very few neighbors. Enjoyed gorgeous sunrises looking out of the big windows across the back of the house. Very spacious inside, open concept living/dining room. Nice that there was a formal and informal dining room so we could do puzzles and have a place to eat. The stove was a bit out of date, but worked well. One drawback is that there was one shower, but there were 2 other half baths. Patio was great, fire pit was big, tables outside for eating and lots of seating for around the fireplace. Enjoyed the entire stay and would go back in a heartbeat!

Glorious spot on the lake

  • 5 of 5

This house is a wonderful place to vacation for young and old alike. My family stayed and enjoyed it immensely, whether mom, toddler or grandparent. We would most definitely return, and highly recommend it.

Great for family vacation

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here in late June 2015. This is a great location on a fairly quiet road with a spectacular view of the lake. The kids had fun playing in the sand dunes and on the beach. Interior of the house is a little dated, but very clean and in good condition. The kitchen had plenty of dishes for cooking, baking and eating. Grocery store is nearby too for supplies. It was a wonderful view from the dining table of the lake, you almost feel like you are sitting outside.

40 minute drive to Sister Bay, so it's a little bit of a drive to some of the spots on the bay side of the peninnsula, but for the price we didn't mind.

We had a great family vacation while staying here, the only negative was the Mosquitos in the mornings and evenings.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. We also agree the view is the best part of our place! It is often mesmerizing, especially at sunrise and even when storms are rolling in. It is the thing I miss most when we leave. The mosquitos can be a problem, depending on the year and the time of year. We do have our property sprayed monthly from May-Sept, which reduces their numbers, but unfortunately doesn't eradicate them.

Glidden Drive is a scenic road that hugs Lake Michigan Shoreline just northeast of Sturgeon Bay. Beautiful sunrises and miles of sandy beach await. Each season brings its own beauty; sledding on our dunes in the winter, hiking through cave point county park in spring, beach combing, fishing, kayaking in summer and taking a scenic drive for fall colors in autumn. There is always something to do.
