About the Property

Secluded Setting close to EVERYTHING! 3BR-3BA *Sleeps 8*

The Grand Traverse Region is one of the TOP PLACES TO VISIT! Originally known as the cherry capital of the world, it is now home to numerous vineyards and wineries, miles and miles of pristine shoreline, nationally recognized events--such as the National Cherry Festival, the Michael Moore Film Festival and the distinction of being the Most Beautiful Place in America (our Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore). This home, while boasting a serene and peaceful setting, is in the middle of all of this!

This property abuts the Whitewater Township Park, which has 150 acres of wooded trails, 2,000+ feet of shoreline along Elk Lake, and a public boat launch and swim area. Elk Lake is your entry point to the “Chain of Lakes”, a 55+mile watershed of 14 interconnected lakes and rivers, including the infamous Torch Lake Sandbar. Rent a boat for the week from one of the many local marinas.

Within a 5 minute drive, you’ll find the $90 Million Turtle Creek Casino with gaming and nightlife; world renowned golf at the Grand Traverse Resort; the quaint village of Elk Rapids-with its many eclectic shops and beautiful riverfront; and Pearl’s Restaurant, a local favorite for New Orleans cuisine—don’t forget to order the crawfish adorned Bloody Mary!

My concept is to provide you a home away from home. The idea is to pull up, drop your bags and begin your perfect vacation!
This home has a large open floor plan with vaulted cathedral ceilings and bamboo floors throughout. There are many multiple areas for gathering and relaxing.
The kitchen, open to the dining room, is fully equipped with everything you will need to entertain and enjoy a carefree vacation: dishes, utensils, cookware, glassware. The dining table can seat 6. The granite counter top bar area seats 4. The bay window is often full of fresh herbs.
Relax with a cocktail in the formal living room. Enjoy the view from the bank of bright windows. Unwind and read a book, or watch the large screen television with surround sound.
There is a recently remodeled full bath on the main floor--conveniently located. It has a large tiled shower that is very accessible (a low edge). Towels and linens are provided.
There is a computer nook for those desiring a private work space. DO keep work to a minimum! ;)
The main floor bedroom is large and airy and has a king size bed and private bath. The shower and stool are isolated from the double vanity sink sharing space while getting ready for an outing is a breeze. The room also has a very large walk in closet with iron & ironing board.
The 2nd bedroom, on the upper level, has a double bed and a trundle bed. The room could comfortably sleep 4.
The 3rd bedroom, on the upper level, has a double bed and overlooks the woods & lawn.
The 3rd bathroom, on the upper level, is located between the two bedrooms. It has a step in shower/tub, vanity and stool.
There are two decks outside. The front deck is great for sunning--it never has any shade. Bring your sun tan lotion! The side deck is large, located immediately off the kitchen French doors and is partially shaded by noon. It has an umbrella table and chairs as well as additional cushioned chairs. There is also a gas grill on the deck, the perfect place for a summer barbecue.
The property has ample space for parking. The driveway is large and asphalt paved. There is a basketball hoop for the kids and a fire pit area for roasting s'mores. Beach volleyball can be found at the township park.

Every effort will be made to ensure you have an amazing and memorable vacation. Reserve your space today!

TRAVERSE CITY/ELK RAPIDS area...Nationally recognized mecca of the north!! World renowned for our natural beauty & vibrant culture: Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore-NAMED MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN AMERICA; the Caribbean of the north--Torch Lake (3rd most beautiful in the world); world class wineries on Old Mission & Leelanau Peninsulas; Top 10 golf courses (Arcadia Bluffs, The Bear); Casinos (Turtle Creek & Leelanau Sands); a burgeoning micro-brew region (Shorts & Right Brain Brewery); Arts festivals (Michael Moore's: 1 week Film Festival and 1 week Comedy Festival); the National Cherry Festival (2014-Return of the Blue Angels); Gourmet cuisine (Trattoria Stella, Aerie, Patisserie Amie, The Boathouse, ETC!), museums (the Music House, Dennos); sailing (Tall Ship Manitou, the Nauticat); scuba diving (world class Great Lakes shipwrecks); beaches abound with turquoise colored fresh water; vibrant & eclectic communities--Fishtown near Empire, Traverse City downtown district, Elk Rapids village--to name just a few. Check out the historic Grand Traverse Commons...former 'insane asylum' converted to chic retail and fine restaurants. Don't forget to take a tour of the underground tunnels! Plan on attending the Horse Shows by the Bay, a month long equestrian event with prizes nearing $1Million. Daily tickets are just $10! There are miles and miles of biking and hiking trails; tennis; jet skiing; para-sailing; camping; fishing; kayaking; canoeing; boating; etc.

Our four seasons offer a multitude of activities. Come in the spring to witness the 'Blessing of the Cherry Blossoms'...and watch the countryside orchards explode in fluffy tufts of pink & white. Prowl the woods for the elusive (yet delicious!) morel mushrooms. Wintertime brings a peace and tranquility to the landscape. Take a romantic moonlit snow shoe excursion or cross country ski trek. Head to the area hillsides for snow skiing or snowmobiling. And don't forget...autumn in Northern Michigan cannot be beat. Plan on a color tour--whether it be hot air ballooning...or taking a country drive through the 'Tunnel of Trees'. The beauty of our four seasons is striking!

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2006

About the owner: I grew up in and around the Traverse City area. My parents made their exodus from the big city in the early 1970's...depositing their family in this quaint area known as northern lower Michigan. As a typical teenager, I planned my 'escape'...eager for the hustle and bustle of the urban landscape. But over time, I came to appreciate the area--and ultimately couldn't bear to leave it : ) My career provides me the opportunity to speak with people of wealth rather regularly. There's nothing more satisfying than hearing these words from them: 'I've travelled the world and can live anywhere I choose. I choose northern Michigan. I choose HERE!'

Why the Owner Chose Williamsburg, MI, USA:
My family purchased this property in 2006. We didn't move far, just across town...but my goal was to put the children into the Elk Rapids school district. The property suited us beautifully! It was isolated enough to be quiet, yet close enough to enjoy all the area amenities. The beach is just down the road. All summer long, we were in constant pursuit of the water--whether it was biking down, loading up the boat for a jaunt out to the Torch Lake sandbar, or a quiet moonlight stroll down for an evening swim. Now the children are grown. And while it might be tempting to sell this property and move on....I cannot. Instead, I am inviting you to share in it. Enjoy!

The Unique Benefits at this House:
This property spoke to me the minute I saw it for sale online. Before I even stepped foot onto the property, I knew it would be ours. And it was! Located immediately between Traverse City and Elk Rapids--it is the perfect location. It is a very private, wooded setting. You cannot see the water, but you can hear it while you're sunning on the deck. The public boat launch/beach area/campground are at the end of the road (0.15 mile). Immediately upon purchasing the home, we bought our first boat. We were in it almost constantly, maneuvering the Chain of Lakes that was mere footsteps from our back door. Here is our detail of the 'chain'...Elk Lake greets you at the end of the road. Through that is Lake Skegemog, to Torch River, to Torch Lake (fabled for its crystal clear turquoise waters and sandbar), to Clam River, to Clam Lake, to Grass River to Lake Bellaire. There are several towns and hamlets along the route. Eagles nest along the riverbanks. It is exceptionally beautiful. Some nights, we wouldn't go 'out' to dinner...we would BOAT to dinner! Some nights, we would walk down the road to the beach, cocktails in hand, eager to meet friends-old and new-that were gathered at the pavilion or enjoying a fire overlooking the lake. The proximity to Traverse City and Elk Rapids were especially appealing to me. It was a foot in both doors, so to speak. We had our quaint little village where everyone knew one another...and the larger city with its many amenities. Over the years, it's been a joy to discover we're always a tourist in our own town. There is always someplace new to visit, eat, hear, explore! Come--See for yourself!!
