Cherry-Pick the Ideal Getaway! 4BR/3BA home @ Traverse City & Torch Lake
The Grand Traverse Region is one of the TOP PLACES TO VISIT! Originally known as the cherry capital of the world, it is now home to numerous vineyards, wineries, distilleries and breweries PLUS miles and miles of pristine shoreline, nationally recognized events--such as the National Cherry Festival, and a recent distinction of being the Most Beautiful Place in America (our Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore). This home, while boasting a serene and peaceful setting, is in the middle of all of this!
This property abuts the Whitewater Township Park, which has 150 acres of wooded trails, 2,000+ feet of shoreline along Elk Lake, and a public boat launch and swim area. Elk Lake is your entry point to the “Chain of Lakes”, a 55+mile watershed of 14 interconnected lakes and rivers, including the infamous Torch Lake Sandbar. Rent a boat for the week from one of the many local marinas.
This area has earned a place on some of the best "Top 10" lists. Traverse City is a 'foodie' town with many options to fit a budget. You could easily stay a week and not see it all. From the lakes, beaches, and rivers; the eclectic towns scattered throughout the region; golf; kayaking; lighthouses; concerts and events; hiking and biking trails; museums; casinos; wineries, breweries, and distilleries.... This region has so much to offer!
WELCOME :) My concept is to provide you a home away from home. The idea is to pull up, drop your bags and begin your perfect vacation! This home has a large open floor plan with vaulted cathedral ceilings and bamboo floors throughout. There are many multiple areas for gathering and relaxing. The kitchen, open to the dining room, is fully equipped with everything you will need to entertain and enjoy a carefree vacation: dishes, utensils, cookware, glassware. The dining table can seat 6. The granite counter top bar area seats 4. Relax with a cocktail in the formal living room. Enjoy the view from the bank of bright windows. Unwind and read a book, or watch the large screen television with surround sound. There is a recently remodeled full bath on the main floor--conveniently located. It has a large tiled shower that is very accessible (a low edge). Towels, linens, soaps and shampoos are provided. There is a computer nook for those desiring a private work space. The main floor bedroom is large and airy and has a king size bed and private bath. The shower and stool are isolated from the double vanity sink area....so sharing space while getting ready for an outing is a breeze. The room also has a very large walk in closet with iron & ironing board. The 2nd bedroom, on the upper level, has a double bed and a trundle bed. The room could comfortably sleep 4. The 3rd bedroom, on the upper level, has a double bed and overlooks the woods & lawn. The 3rd bathroom, on the upper level, is located between the two bedrooms. It has a step in shower/tub, vanity and stool. The 4th bedroom is in the lower level (finished, walk-out basement). It has a king Sleep Number bed and also one twin bed. This space could comfortably sleep 3. There are two decks outside. The front deck is great for sunning--it never has any shade. Bring your sun tan lotion! The side deck is large, located immediately off the kitchen French doors and is partially shaded by noon. It has an umbrella table and chairs as well as additional cushioned chairs. There is also a gas grill on the deck, the perfect place for a summer barbecue. The property has ample space for parking. The driveway is large and asphalt paved. There is a fire pit area for roasting s'mores. Beach volleyball and public swimming can be found at the township park right next door!
Every effort will be made to ensure you have an amazing and memorable vacation. Reserve your space today!

Location was perfect for our needs, which was comfortably housing 4 couples. The spaces accommodated the size of our party well - roomy dining area, family room, nice bedrooms, sizable deck, and the wonderful fire pit. Location is pretty quiet. We walked to the hiking paths on the nearby county park. The beach would be a bit of a walk, but is very close. As with most rental places, could really use a nice fry pan. But I understand the challenges of having lots of people in one's place. We had a memorable week!
What a terrific property! The spacious house easily accommodated ten adults (we brought a blow-up mattress to have enough beds in the lower level). Nestled in the woods with a large yard and a big fire-pit, the home had that up-north feel. Elk Lake was about a half-mile walk. We loved the location--an easy drive to Elk Rapids (loved Veteran's Memorial Beach), Torch Lake, Traverse City, and all the wineries and beaches on Old Mission Peninsula. The host was easy to reach and check-in/check-out was a breeze. We'd stay here again!
This house was perfect for our family vacation. Plenty of space for the little ones to play and the kitchen worked out well for us. Close to Elk Rapids, which is what we wanted.
This home was perfect for our group of 7 adults and 2 children. Plenty of common space for all of us to gather to play games and watch movies. The host was very helpful. Check in was a breeze.
The home was clean and in a wonderful area. The setting is very relaxing for a fire, to sit out on the deck, and relax with friends or family! Close to Traverse Bay where we rented a boat for the day, and closer to Elk and Torch lake. I would certainly stay here again!
This house was in a great location. Peaceful setting, walking trails and boat dock nearby, and easy drives to Torch Lake, Traverse City and Charlevoix. We enjoyed our week long stay here. We had 6 adults, and every couple had their own space and bathroom. The house was clean, comfortable and had a lot of amenities. Great place to stay!
Property is great! Home was very clean and the no space was as described. We really enjoyed the peaceful setting and proximity to Elk Rapids. I highly recommend this property and would not hesitate to stay here again!
This house was all that was advertised and more. The close proximity to the water with the privacy and space for our family was perfect. Everything was very well communicated and there was no need for us to contact the property manager at any time. Information inside the house was clear and concise. It was perfect for two families with both adults and teens.
Our family thourally enjoyed our stay so much that we came back for a second visit. Everything was so convient for our family of 10 to use and to get around. Very peaceful up north getaway. Sally ( the host ) responds very quickly to your questions. We we're missing some sheets and she made a special delivery to make sure we had some. We will be back whenever we can !!
This property was just what we hoped for and more. Secluded, peaceful, but actually not far from anything you would want. Very comfortable and well laid out for our extended family of 9 1/2. Beautiful boat launch down the road. Never crowded. We would definately come back. Thank you !!

R & R
Our stay was great! Very peaceful. The house was very clean and user friendly. We had weather that required both air conditioning and heat and both worked great. It was the perfect size for our family. It was really nice to have television available for the evenings. The house and property were great for our dogs. The location made Traverse City, golf courses, Elk Rapids and other areas very accessible.

Cozy Rural Retreat
Good rural location to many popular cities. Nicely updated kitchen and beautiful renovated downstairs full bath. No wifi and sketchy hot spots, which were problems since two of our college kids had homework to do. Overall, the outside of the house needs significant TLC with peeling paint and overgrown walkways. Great washer and dryer downstairs but the area contained many of owner's personal belongings.

Great location but house could use some attention.
The location of this home is great! We had a quick drive to Traverse City and about 40 minutes to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Location wise-perfect.
Sally was great to work with. Quick to reply to my questions and gave us great suggestions for beaches and parks nearby.
The house itself was OK. The kitchen with the big island with seating was great for the kids. Overall though, this wasn't the most kid friendly house. The deck was missing a bunch of the railings. The railing that is there, the spindles are wide enough for our two year old to fit through (thankfully she didn't fall!)
In the house, the baby gates (provided at the house) don't secure to the wall at the top of either set of stairs. The spindles in the railings at the top of the stairs are about 6 inches apart, not up to code and definitely wide enough for a child to fit through!!
FYI, In the master bathroom, the hot and cold water are backwards. (Cold turns on hot etc.)
The air conditioning worked great in the master bedroom side of the house. Upstairs, the bedrooms stayed pretty warm. There are ceiling fans up there which helped a lot.
Outside the house- the pictures on VRBO must be pretty old. The house and landscaping appear to be a bit neglected. The weeds in the gardens are so overgrown they are practically trees. Normally this wouldn't be a problem with our stay inside, but on the one day it rained, we had to walk through the wet overgrown weeds and branches that line (and reach over) the sidewalk. The paint is peeling off all over the house. The railing from the round part of the deck was all ripped off. It just looks like it could use some attention.
This is a great house for adults, but not very kid friendly. There are baby gates provided but they don't attach to the walls properly. The board games provided which would've been great on our rainy day were missing some essential pieces to play.
FYI, there isn't a pack 'n play, booster, etc. provided. You'd have to bring your own.
We enjoyed the location! We had a great campfire outside at the campfire pit. And made some good memories up north. If you're traveling with kids under 5 though, you may want to look for somewhere else to stay.

I was very disappointed by this review. This is my family home where I've raised my children, hosted multiple family gatherings, reunions and play dates. To suggest this home is not safe for children is a complete misrepresentation.
This home has been a successful vrbo offering for travelers for over 3 years and I take great pride in offering it to those seeking to explore this beautiful region. There are multiple stellar reviews associated with this property which indicate 5 star satisfaction. Please read them all.
The property was well maintained and located conveniently near Traverse City and ElK Rapids, Michigan. Driving back and forth was very picturesque through local cherry orchards and provided a great opportunity to purchase locally grown cherries. You can definitely see the property was updated and the deck was a great place to unwind and enjoy the night sky at the end of the day. The cleaning crew was not detail oriented during clean up and there are two beds in the basement. The basement was not set up as a comfortable sleeping space, the area definitely needed a dehumidifier. The extra outdoor space and firepit was an added bonus to enjoying a quiet, relaxing evening. There is a short drive to the campground to access the nearby lake, the property is not located near water.
A beautiful home for our large group. Enjoyed the outside as well as the inside. Great location. Great condition.

About the host
Hosted by Sally Murray
I grew up in and around the Traverse City area. My parents made their exodus from the big city in the early 1970's...depositing their family in this quaint area known as northern lower Michigan. As a typical teenager, I planned my 'escape'...eager for the hustle and bustle of the urban landscape. But over time, I came to appreciate the area--and ultimately couldn't bear to leave it : ) My career provides me the opportunity to speak with people who are well traveled. There's nothing more satisfying than hearing these words from them: 'I've been around the world and can live anywhere I choose. I choose northern Michigan. I choose HERE!'
Why they chose this property
My family purchased this property in 2006. The property suited us beautifully! It was isolated enough to be quiet, yet close enough to enjoy all the area amenities. The beach is just down the road. All summer long, we were in constant pursuit of the water--whether it was biking down, loading up the boat for a jaunt out to the Torch Lake sandbar, or a quiet moonlight stroll down for an evening swim.
Now the children are grown. And while it might be tempting to sell this property and move on....I cannot. Instead, I am inviting you to share in it.
I know you will enjoy your stay!
What makes this property unique
Located immediately between Traverse City and Elk Rapids--it is the perfect location. It is a very private, wooded setting. The public boat launch/beach area/campground are at the end of the road (0.15 mile). Elk Lake is your entry point to the Chain of Lakes: Then to Lake Skegemog, to Torch River, to Torch Lake (fabled for its crystal clear turquoise waters and sandbar), to Clam River, to Clam Lake, to Grass River to Lake Bellaire. There are several towns and hamlets along the route. Eagles nest along the riverbanks. It is exceptionally beautiful.
The proximity to both Traverse City and Elk Rapids is especially appealing. There is always someplace new to visit, eat, hear, explore!
Come--See for yourself!!
