Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom / 1 Bath / Full Kitchen / BBQ Grills / Std Cable & Free Wi-Fi

This gated condominium IS undeniably a beachfront DREAM! Off the beaten path, roughly 30 miles west from the Honolulu International Airport, the Makaha Beach Cabanas boasts unparalleled oceanfront accommodations that are literally ON Papaoneone (pah-pah-ohnay-ohnay) Beach, or as the locals refer to it, 'Turtle Beach.' Bedrooms are oceanside, while entryways are mountainside.

Our unit is located on the ground floor which is MOST CONVENIENT. No elevator to catch, come and go as you please with minimal fuss. The sand and beach are straight out our back sliding door where breathtaking sunsets await you nightly.

Accommodations include a fully furnished unit with a complete kitchen and a standard size refrigerator/freezer. The bedroom comes with a queen size bed, while the living area has a 'click-clack futon' which effortlessly folds out into a full size bed for additional occupants. Comfortably accommodates up to 4 adults. Both the living area and bedroom come equipped with flat screen televisions and standard cable. Complimentary Wi-Fi is also available, as we understand your need to 'stay in touch' with reality whilst living in a dream.

Not to worry, towels and linens are plentiful while the on-site 24 hour coin-operated laundromat comes in pretty handy with all the salty clothing and damp towels you'll find that you quickly accumulate. You'll also find two BBQ grills and the communal beach shower quite convenient, as well.

Sneaking out on the lanai or having a seat on the sand without disturbing anyone for your morning 'cup of joe' is so easily accessible from our ground floor unit in those wee hours of the morning. Simply slide the door open and you are right there. Time to get lost in thought on a tranquil morning. Enjoy some or all of your meals indoors or out on the lanai as the view mesmerizes you. Sunsets will become part of your daily routine during your stay as they are breathtakingly beautiful and will likely be the highlight of your every evening. Our collection of photos does little justice to the 'real thing' but we've tried our best to capture it all through a camera's lens.

About Melody

I grew up in Makaha. Having moved away after school, I have grown to truly appreciate its' beauty. Most of my youthful days were spent at the beach with the neighborhood children, where we would pack a lunch and spend hours at a time. So, it's no surprise that years later I've come full circle and have re-discovered my 'stomping grounds.' I love Makaha and Turtle Beach! My husband, a Pennsylvania transplant, has also grown to love the islands as much as I do. As someone who travels the world for a living, I can honestly say, not many other beaches can compare. Home is truly where the heart is.

Melody purchased this condo in 2014

Why Melody chose Mākaha

Two words: Turtle Beach. It is the epitome of paradise to me and the closest to private as one can get, as NO beach is privately owned in Hawaii. Virtually unpopulated on any given day, a crowded or busy day will typically garner roughly 25-30 people. A slow day? Just YOU. Or no one at all.

What makes this condo unique

Surrounded by single-family homes together with The Hawaiian Princess next door, Turtle Beach is primarily utilized by its' immediate inhabitants. The lack of available public parking conveniently acts as 'crowd control.' Hence, Turtle Beach might just be the BEST beach on our island.

Great Condo in Excellent Location

  • 4 of 5

Great condo with everything you need provided. All directions/instructions were excellent. Owner very responsive to questions, etc. Ground floor location so easy to get your chairs/umbrella out and back in w/o having to use stairs/elevator. Also great place to say hello to passersby, meet fellow vacationers and some of the locals. Only minor downside is you can't see the surf on the shore as the waters edge is 10-12 ft down from the top of the sand. The surf can be intimidating for the unaccustomed. On a few days it was much to rough for swimming. Not for the squeamish about surf crashing into you or swimming over your head. I expect all Hawaii beaches are similar. I wouldn't stop for groceries in Kapolei unless you are a big Costco/Walmart fan. Everything and more available at Tamura's market just 4 km from Condo. WiFi range is a bit weak. Lost signal when sitting in the lanai. Overall, would definitely recommend this condo and location.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback and we are happy to hear that your overall experience was positive. In regards to the ocean amd shoreline, this changes frequently and depends on many factors: the wind, strength and intensity of surf conditions, just overall dependent on mother nature. Some days the shore/sand is like a plain, flat and straight out to the ocean. Other days, dunes and drops like that of a desert scape. Beach living is quite interesting in that your backuars landscape is a constant metamorphosis. In regards to the wifi, we have finally placed a booster in the unit and hope this solves the problem. The steuctire of the building consists of this concrete walls and pillars that dates back to 1968 and built to withstand harsh winds and weather. Keeping our fingers crossed that the booster remedies the wifi issue. Again, thank you for choosing our condo for your vacation and we hope to have you back again some day. Aloha & Mahalo

A rotten slice of paradise,

  • 1 of 5

-was the listing description accurate. No we paid for housekeeping, damages and service fees. The manager complained about sand on the floor and food in the microwave, meaning that we paid all this money and she wanted us spend our last hours (never mind you have to leave by 10AM) cleaning the place.

- was the property well maintained. No the dishwasher was broken and the washer/dryer are not inside the condo but in coin operated room and yes you have to pay extra for that.

-Did the owner/manager provide good customer service: No, when we arrived we texted and called to ask for the keys to the laani, she never responded.

- would you recommend this property: No. The place is tiny. The owner/manager should she have give me the option of cleaning it up or pay for cleaning. I would have hired a Molly-Maid for a fraction of those exorbitant cleaning fees. The bed is old and cheap the mattress pad was total garbage. We bought our own. There are lots of roaches (they do have combat traps) the Wifi does not work in the Lanai. There are lots of condos nearby. So look around the title "a slice of paradise" means one slice, a bad one, there have to be better slices nearby.

Owner's Response: It's sad to see a negative review when you are certain it is done simply out of spite. So I will preface my response by saying this is merely a case of sour grapes. Please note, all my other reviews are very positive with much praise for our condo unit. I have had many guests come and go but none (even those with young children) left my condo in the condition these guests did. I won't elaborate but I WILL say that I texted in regards to this, and he did NOT like being called out on this issue, which triggered this negative review. It seems to me that he missed many important details in my listing, the washer dryer issue in particular. Our building prohibits washer and dryer machines in our units. Therefore, a 24-hour communal coin-operated laundromat is located down the hall. This is mentioned in our listing. Our unit is also very well maintained and I made it a point to mention that the dishwasher was inoperable but we did have a future appointment made for its' repair. Guest responded by saying that was not a problem. What he was particularly concerned about was that the unit was clean because he is highly asthmatic. If we had an A/C unit the filters needed to be cleaned out and any area rugs had to be removed. We have neither. Guest texted me several days after arrival stating, "We love your place. Everything is where it should be. Super clean as u said.." even continuing on asking to rebook 12/19/17-01/02/18. I had to decline as it conflicted with an existing reservation. Guest mentions that I did not respond to a call when they arrived regarding the security shades in the lanai. That info is in the welcome letter in BOLD print AND the guest info book on the coffee table. He conveniently fails to mention he called at 12:30 A.M. I was asleep, as was the rest of my family. I did however, reply the next morning via text. I received a reply back and an apology from his girlfriend (not him) about the late call. Interestingly, I have NEVER had any other guests call in regards to the location of the security shade keys. This is the ONLY guest who has had this problem. Guest also mentions the unit is "tiny.' It is also stated in our listing that our unit is 456 sq ft. He also speaks of a few other points, obviously grasping at straws. It's important to mention that review requests are automatically generated, reviewed, and approved by VRBO. Thus, it was not myself that rejected his previous reviews, but VRBO themselves.

Just as expected

  • 4 of 5

The condo is just like the pictures with everything needed, beach was great, not crowded, vacationers and residents very friendly, building staff professional and helpful. Good to have laundry facilities, lots of stores, restaurants in newer area back toward Honolulu. Don’t underestimate traffic situation if you plan to do sightseeing. Melody was quick to respond to text or email. Very helpful with suggestions.

Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much Melody & Al for letting us rent your wonderful condo on the beach! It was all that you described and more. From the fantastic view from the bedroom & lanai to the lovely kitchen and living room, it was so nice! You supplied us with anything we might need! We loved that the beach was right there! When we ventured out to see Pearl Harbor, went to the luau at Paradise Cove and drove to the North Shore and checked out Waikiki, we loved your beach the most, so secluded & not busy. We loved every minute! You made the trip of our lifetime for our 25th wedding anniversary amazing! Mahalo!!! 😎򓠽𣑍🌴󝀽򐈀

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location! Away from the crowd and the noise. Waikiki was just 40 minutes away when we wanted to do some serious shopping.

The condo was well equipped, clean and comfortable. Melody provided a lot of useful info in the condo binder.

We will definitely recommend the unit to friends and family after we book our next stay!

Thank you Melody for letting us enjoy your "little slice of paradise"!

Map

Nearest Airport

Turtle Beach
Car: recommended

Makaha is located approximately 30 miles west from the Honolulu International Airport. It is 'off the beaten path' and is not considered to be a resort town. It is in fact, quite rural and this is very much a part of its' charm. If you are looking to 'get away from it all' and not quite into the busy tourist-y scene then Makaha might be right up your alley. The beaches on the west side of the O'ahu are gems with their clearer, cleaner, and bluer waters than any other part of the island. They are also less crowded.

On your way into Makaha you will pass 'Kapolei' which includes Costco, Target, and Safeway among its' wide variety of other stores and restaurants. Additionally, about 3 miles further west is the Ko'olina Resort area where you will find more shops, restaurants and beaches or in Ko'olina's case, 'lagoons.' The Lagoons are lovely, but I should forewarn you that parking can be VERY difficult on afternoons and weekends as it is very limited. There is also a water park--Wet n' Wild Hawaii--in the Kapolei area if you've got children in tow who might prefer to opt out from the beach for a day during your stay.
