Comfort and relaxation are calling to you. Reconnect with friends and family over coffee in the sunroom. An inviting gas fireplace adds warmth to the dining area with a large table to seat 8 guests. Enjoy the full kitchen with a beautiful butcher block island that is complemented by tile counter tops. For your convenience you'll find a full size electric stove and full size refrigerator freezer. On the first floor you will find two bedrooms with queen size mattresses, and a full bathroom. Retreat upstairs for ocean and tree views out of large windows, sink into the giant red couch, or work on a puzzle in front of the electric fireplace. This room lets in the natural sunlight, so it is a good area for projects such as sewing, quilting, beading, etc. The two bedrooms upstairs both have queen-sized mattresses. If you like fresh air you can open the window a bit to let the ocean sound lull you to sleep. There is also a bathroom with a shower upstairs. This bathroom flaunts a porthole window for peek-a-boo views of the ocean. There is a washer and dryer in the utility room for your use. Outside there is a fenced lawn, large patio, and fire-pit for you to enjoy.
There are such an abundance of activities here on the central Oregon coast. Here are a few of our favorites:
GOLFERS: Enjoy Agate Beach Golf Course, only 10 minutes away. A little further north is Salishan Golf Course.
BEACHCOMBERS: You will be minutes from miles of beach. We have found plenty of seaglass and an abundance of fossils at Beverly Beach. Agates also can be found in the area.
TIDEPOOLERS: The pools at Pebble Beach, at Yaquina Head, are full of sea urchins, sea anemones, and starfish. If you turn over the black rocks, you are likely to find tiny crabs. When the tide is low, you can also access the inside of The Devil's Punchbowl via beach access to the north of Otter Rock.
HIKERS: There are miles of beach to amble down. One of our favorite family hikes is Driftcreek Falls, it's about 3 miles roundtrip to a suspension bridge and waterfall, through old growth forest. It is about a 2 minute drive to get there. There is also a little nature trail in Beverly Beach campground.
BOOK LOVERS: Canyon Way is a fun bookstore to visit in the Newport Bayfront. There is also a great used book store at Nye Beach.
KITE FLYERS: You are usually in luck at the Oregon Coast. The Kite Shop, in the heart of Newport, has a vast selection of kites, from the fancy stunt kite, to a favorite octopus kite for kids, that is an easy flyer.
S'MORE LOVERS: Bonfires can be built on the beaches in this area, perfect for s'mores, just keep those marshmallows out of the sand. There is also a small fire pit on the house patio and firewood can be purchased just down the street at the small market.
BEADERS: Nye beach boasts a cute little bead shop. Just north of Fogarty Beach there is a gigantic bead shop with oodles of beads to get lost in.
CRABBERS: We crab off of the docks on the south side of the bay, near Rogue Brewery (yes, that's convenient). Also, we have found some luck off of the docks on the bay front, just next to the Undersea Garden. That's where there are usually a few gigantic sea lions hanging out, too.
CHOWDER LOVERS: Our family favorite is found at the Chowder Bowl, in Nye Beach. Mo's chowder is consistently good also.
MOVIE LOVERS: There is a movie theater in Newport with the latest releases. We have a small library of movies at the house for our guest, too.
BEER LOVERS: Of course, Rogue Brewery has some tantalizing brews. There is a restaurant on the Bay Front and then the brewery on the south side of the bay, which also has a restaurant. Many times on holiday weekends, the brewery has a 'garage sale'. If it's your lucky day, you can take home some very sweet deals. We love to grab a brew at Nana's Irish Pub in Nye Beach, also.
LIGHTHOUSE LOVERS: The beautiful Yaquina Head Lighthouse can be seen from Beverly Beach. Sometimes it is open and you can climb the stairs to the top. Just at the north end of the Newport Bridge, lies the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, which is very historical and interesting to visit.
GEOCACHERS: Well, there are many around, but you'll have to find them yourself, that's the point, right?
FISHING TRIPS: You can take a charter fishing trip out of establishments on the Newport Bay Front, and also from Depot Bay.
SHOPPERS: Several boutiques can be found at Nye Beach, and there are also many shops at the Bay Front.
AQUARIUM GOERS: The Newport Aquarium is a fantastic place to spend an afternoon. You can lose time watching the jellyfish gracefully float, and get a good view of sea otters and sea lions. The Marine Hatfield Science Center is in the same location, and has some interesting exhibits and 'touch pools'. The interpretive center at the Yaquina Head Lighthouse area has a nice exhibit there about whales, sea life, and lighthouses.
QUILTERS: There is currently one quilt shop in Newport, just near the junction of Hwy 101 and 20, and another has just moved in near Fred Myers.
Well, again, there is so much to do in the area, I've tried to list a few of our favorites, but there is still so much for you to discover on your own.
