Our home is designed to entertain and relax our friends and yours with a huge list of amenities and local attractions, both indoors and outdoors that create the ideal base for a well-rounded visit to the Hudson Valley. We are located just minutes away from Woodstock (10 min), Saugerties (15 min), Kingston (15 min) and Phoenicia (20 min) and just a short trip away from Rhinebeck, Hudson, New Paltz, Hunter, Hyde Park and the magical Catskill State Park where you can catch the all the glorious sporting and cultural offerings this legendary region offers.
The wooded setting of this property is an incredibly serene getaway we chose for its complete privacy. In fact, the back deck opens onto a bowl-shaped rock ledge at the far end of the property, wrapping the house in a living sculpture - the perfect place to watch the falling leaves, or snow! Our guests most often comment on the sense of peace that comes from waking up to bird songs in the morning and falling asleep to a sky full of stars at night. Spending the day with a book by the pool (or fireside) is the perfect way to watch a week go by before you know it!
The second reason we fell in love with this property is the proximity to our favorite Hudson Valley pursuits: hiking, eating and music! After a day of fresh mountain air on the trails or the slopes we like to celebrate at the incredible local restaurants and cocktail bars. Being a few minutes away from the local brewery is a great time saver! Whether you are picking up specialty meats for the grill, a new jazz album from the record store or grabbing a bushel of apples from the farmers market, the convenience of this location is impossible to beat!
Being on vacation doesn’t have to mean you’re cut off from the world…unless you want to be. We have full cell and wifi service at the house to make the transition into down time just a little smoother.
Our recent remodeling has created a colorful, cheerful space featuring local poster art as well as an eclectic mix of antiques and unique craft furniture from local artists.
Please contact us with any questions. We would be delighted to help you plan a trip that works for both your schedule and personal interests. Below is just a sampling of our favorite ways to entertain guests at home and in our fantastic neighborhood!
In Summer and Fall:
Hiking/Biking – 10 minutes from Overlook Mountain trail. Wittenberg and Slide Mountains also nearby. 15 minutes from Catskill Park (dozens of trail heads for hundreds of trails with varying difficulty). Ashokan Reservoir path makes an incredibly scenic sunset stroll. Not be missed are the Kaaterskill & Bastion Waterfalls. New Paltz (Mohonk Preserve) hikes are only 40 minutes away.
Swimming – From our salt water pool to Woodstock’s famed “Big Deep” swimming hole, river tubing in Phoenicia (20 minutes away) and charming lake parks, there are water sports in every direction
Fishing – See Catskill maps for fly fishing spots throughout Phoenicia/Saugerties/etc… notably along Esopus Creek
Boating – a range of tours available in Kingston from party boats to historic sailing ships. Rentals are available along the Esopus for canoes/kyaks. Kenneth Wilson state park also has rentals and a boat slip if you bring your own!
Farmers Market – 12 minutes from Kingston farmers market with dozens of farm stands in each of the neighboring towns. Independent farms and food shops are only minutes away in Saugerties, Rhinebeck, Kingston and Redhook including many of the top butchers, bakers, cheese shops and pie makers in the region! There will be a list in the house with recommendations for any type of food fun you can imagine.
Zip Lining – Local ski mountains offer summer zip line tours, Hunter being closest (30 minutes with summer road).
Equestrian Fun – Saugerties (15 min) is home to the Horses In The Sun (HITS) international competitions several weekends from May-September
Fall Colors – It goes without saying that Fall is perhaps the most beautiful time of the year so book early for high-season leaf-peeping trips!

Estate tours are available for the Vanderbilt mansion, Olana (Hudson), Onteora Mountain House, West Point (1 hour south), the Culinary Institute of America as well as many historic homes and landmarks in the area. Two sculpture parks in range, the impressive Storm King Art Center (50 minutes or right on the way from NYC) and Opus 40, only 10 minutes from the house! Kingston was the former capital of New York State and there are several tours and museums focused on the pre-Revolution phase of the Hudson Valley’s history.
Performing Arts – Both Woodstock and Hudson playhouses have significant summer schedules, as do performing arts venues in Phoenicia, Catskill, Rosendale and on campus at Bard College. Outdoor venues include Bethel Performing Arts Center and seasonal concerts at Rhinebeck County Fairgrounds. Fireworks and County Fairs are happening all Summer and Fall across the region. Don’t miss the historic venues frequented by Woodstock’s original creative set (Dylan, Janice and the Band, to name a few); check out the Bear Café and Levon Helm’s Midnight Rambles at the Barn. Live music nightly every weekend at Keegan’s Brewery in Kingston with a handful of other music venues just steps away and Jazz Fest filling the streets every August!
Dining – From casual to fine dining, there are award-winning restaurants in Saugerties, Woodstock, Kingston (all 15 minutes away, or less). Hudson Valley pioneered the farm-to-table movement in New York and that is still evident today with both big-name chefs opening farm outposts and hipsters renovating local diners and cafes. Amazing food year-round with a long list of recommendations available in the house. Vegetarians will delight in the myriad of choices in veg-friendly Woodstock!
Catskill Mountain Railroad – A super scenic ride in Summer or Fall with mountain pass rides leaving from Phoenicia, or “Polar Express” and trolley rides leaving from Kingston.

Spas – Independent shops in each of the nearby towns and large resort (Emerson) near Phoenicia (15 minutes).
Ian works in the wine industry and Janine is in nonprofit finance at NYU.
Janine Wilcox purchased this house in 2013
the location is central
the house is perfect AND A POOL
if you are going to spend a week or weekend in this area you can't beat this location. It is a short drive from NYC and there are countless things to do in the area. If you are there for a long time kingston has big box grocery stores + a brewery that is definately worth a visit. Woodstock is cute and Saugerties is another great little town. Personally I loved the proximity to Phoenicia, farm stands and just being in the outdoors. you feel like you got away while having everything you need not that far. it is the best of both worlds.
the house is perfect. three proper bedrooms, a convertable media room with a pull out couch and another pull out couch in the living room. a new kitchen with all the things you need to cook at home. a grill (and a chimney) on the back deck is perfect for warm summer nights. the pool is the perfect temperature for a quick cool off after sunbathing or a walk around town.
Our group had an amazing stay! Both Janine and Ian were quickly responsive to any questions throughout rental process and once our stay began. The swimming pool and surrounding property is an amazing place to relax for a few days (with a great sound system). Grocery stores are very convenient and there is a beautiful kitchen to prepare big family meals. All of the beds were very comfortable, even the people that ended up sleeping on the tempur-pedic pull out couches were well rested! Town is not far and there are tons of cute shops and restaurants/cafes to browse. I would definitely recommend this property to people looking to relax, hike and enjoy the outdoors.
We had a fantastic time staying here! Everything was exactly as presented. The house was clean, the pool was great, the location superb. We were looking for something private, kid friendly, and relaxing. Our expectations were met. Janine was great to work with. The few minor issues we had were resolved easily. (Couldn't find something, needed more space in fridge). The only downside was there was not as much seating area in the downstairs living room as we would have liked. Would probably work for most others. We are a large family and it didn't impact us much as we spent most of our time by the beautiful pool. There is another media room upstairs which we could have used for sitting. We were using it as a bedroom and didn't want to keep pulling out the couch bed. Couch beds, as all beds were very comfy!
Everything about this property was absolutely amazing. The home, swimming pool, deck, yards and surroundings were immaculate. It all was all inviting, which made you feel at home. Anything you could anticipate needing was on hand, and it was very central to shopping and sightseeing. All in all - a fantastic experience!!
