Cozy one bedroom cottage on riverfront property on lovely Ware Neck.
Come and spend your vacation in this quiet, peaceful setting on the Ware River. The estate boasts 290 ft of shoreline. This charming and historic 2 story cottage sits on 7 acres located on the Ware Neck Peninsula. The cottage has hand hewn post and beam construction dating to approximately the 1790s. There are fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and on the front porch. Just in front of the cottage is the restored icehouse built in the late 18th century and used to store blocks of ice brought from up north by steamboats down the Chesapeake Bay. The water front is a short stroll and has a pier with a floating dock. This is a perfect spot for watching beautiful sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine, fishing, crabbing or launching your canoe or kayak. The Cottage is 70 min from Richmond or Norfolk, 2 hours from DC, 45 min from Williamsburg, 30 min from Yorktown and 20 minutes to the Arts community of Matthews. It provides a great home base for exploring this beautiful and diverse region of Virginia.

Perfect place & location
This cottage is on a large property that was perfect for walking our two dogs. The grounds are immaculately kept, and the owners were warm and friendly. The place itself has fireplaces on both floors (although we did not use them, there were instructions provided on how to do so as well as wood provided). There is a room for laundry, and a sweet little window seat for reading (with overhead light). Having rented many places for our vacations over the years, I have to say this was my favorite so far. I also want to mention that the housekeeper does an excellent job... with dogs, we're always wiping water/hair off the floor and there was absolutely no dirt whatsoever... and no remnants of previous pet owners either. One other great thing is that this place is located less than an hour from Williamsburg and Jamestown, and about 30 mins (or less) to Yorktown. There is plenty in the nearby towns to eat and grocery shop. We loved our stay. Thank you again, and if we're ever back in the area, we know where to stay! :)
Beautiful, peaceful, and welcoming
The picture on VRBO is not a picture of the outside of the cottage we stayed in but, the inside pictures are. This cottage is wonderful. It's cozy, very well decorated, comfy bed....rates a 10 in our book.
If we are ever back in the area again, we will certainly see if it is available.
Our lead picture, which is our favorite, shows the barn and garden on the property. There are also several pictures of the outside of the cottage and all pictures are labeled. We are glad that that the cottage didn't disappoint and that you enjoyed your stay.
What a wonderful place to stay while visiting family and Virginia. The cottage is something out of a fairy tale, large fireplace, winding stair case, wooden beams, windows looking at beautiful estate. Imagine looking out your bedroom window to see cherry blossoms bursting outside. And with all the conveniences of today.
Relaxing and Kid Friendly Stay
We had a great experience at the Glebefield Middle Cottage. We were looking for a short getaway from D.C. where our two young boys could run free and enjoy the outdoors after a long city winter. They enjoyed the tree-house (wonderfully constructed...don't miss the view out the treehouse window...it's gorgeous!) and tire swing, and we had a good time kayaking with them on the Ware with the provided kayaks. Everything was as pictured and in perfect order. The entire estate shows the love and care Peg and John have invested over the years. We'd gladly return.
Beautiful property. Relaxing Environment. Cozy cottage. Warm-and-inviting owners. Really glad we stayed here.
The cottage is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful, great place for a getaway!
The cottage is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful and the hosts a very accommodating! This was a quite girls weekend and we loved the cottage with it's charming decorating. The kitchen garden (pictured) is lovely and a great place to sit and chat. The view of the water is zen and the sunset was well worth sitting in the cold.
Having said that the kitchen pots and pans in the cottage need replacing, we had a hard time finding a good pan to fry eggs in. And if you decide to build a fire fellow the instructions!
This is a great find and doesn't disappoint.
We are so glad that you enjoyed the cottage and the grounds. I wish you had called me about the skillet. I could have told you where to look or would have gladly run one up from my kitchen. I found 2 skillets in the kitchen and admit that the nonstick surface on one had seen better days. I went out today and purchased some replacements. We appreciate when guests let us know when things are missing or broken so that we can replace them.
We are in a lovely rural setting and yet close enough to Yorktown, Jamestown and Williamsburg to enjoy all they have to offer including historical tours, amusement parks, Farmers markets and fine dining.
