About Nina Pedersen

Nina and Jess are creative outdoor people. Jess is an architect...Nina is a papermaker....we both are hands on builders....we both teach skiing and are very involved parents. We have 2 kids, 4 dogs, 3 horses, 3 cats and lots of projects. We love our property and are happy to share it with you.

Nina Pedersen purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Nina Pedersen chose Carbondale

Before we had kids, we looked for a forever home, someplace where we could enjoy all of our passions, that had a restfulness and soul. We saw an ad in the paper and everything else stopped.....we knew the property and knew we wanted it. When we bought it, there were 2 cabins from the early 1900's, very rustic and old. Now the main home has a modern addition surrounding the original old cabin and the second cabin recently burned in an unexplained fire...hence the new cabin. We are surrounded by neighboring hay pastures, fields of sagebrush and 360 degree mountain views. We are always working on our property, gardening and making improvements. Seems the DIY style of living is our destiny.

What makes this cabin unique

We call this rental home 'The Cabin' as it replaced an old cow barn that had been modified to be a residential cabin before we bought the property. Missouri Heights can be windy in the spring so Jess designed this building to have no eaves on the west face, in corten steel. As you walk around the cabin, it changes to slats of cedar with gaps meant to resemble the old chinked log design. As the cedar ages, it will go driftwood grey. The interior layout is very similar to the original cabin, with a lofted bedroom over the kitchen area and an open-to-below view of the living room. The design is spare, simple and highly functional. For a small 2 bedroom cabin, everyone who walks in says 'I could live here!'

Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time here. The property worked really well for our two small kids and our dog. The location was perfect for feeling like we got out of the hustle and bustle while still being close to Carbondale, Basalt and the Roaring Fork Valley. Nina was very helpful an accommodating. We wished we had another night to spend there!

Gorgeous, family-oriented, stunning scenery and wonderful hosts.

  • 5 of 5

Having serious withdrawals from this place! We live in Denver and rent in the mountains on a regular basis: This is our favorite trip this year! We spent 5 nights here over the July 4th holiday and it couldn't have been better! Carbondale is a great small town with fun places to eat and hang out. We enjoyed cycling the Rio Grande trail with our 4 year-old daughter and found some easy hiking too. Everyone we met was so friendly and kind. The cabin itself is designed by the architect-owner and is very stylish (concrete floors, contemporary furniture, exactly as it shows in the pictures). I really liked the fact that the cabin is on the owner's property and feels very secure (no keys needed!). It's incredibly quiet and serene. The hosts - Nina and Jess - were so gracious and kind: sharing their deep knowledge of the area and letting us hang with their 3 horses and 4 dogs. We all miss Rio (their delightful 1 year old pup) so much!!! He will definitely enhance your stay if you are an animal-lover:). Super kid-friendly. The beds and linens are very comfortable. Everything is very clean and the kitchen is well-stocked. The views from the property are gorgeous! We all felt so at peace here and felt such a wonderful connection with this place. We will DEFINITELY return.

Extraordinary

  • 5 of 5

Exactly as described, including dogs and horses. The peaceful scenery was exactly what we were looking for -- so glad we chose not to stay at a hotel in town! Probably one of the most well appointed places I've rented through HomeAway, as is evident by the photos. Sat on that beautiful patio to watch birds, horses, mountains and clouds -- gorgeous! Nina was extremely helpful, kind and funny. We would return in a minute and strongly recommend.

Wonderful Colorado cabin

  • 4 of 5

This was an amazing cabin out in the gorgeous mountains of Carbondale. You can see the most beautiful scenery right from the cabin. It is well equipped with everything you can possibly need in the kitchen. We were two couples and two young children and a dog. The children stayed on portable mattresses, while the adults occupied the comfortable beds. The kids loved playing with the dogs, flying kites and swinging on the small playground. Our Brittany had a blast frolicking with the owners four dogs, especially the year-old Rio, and running like crazy all over the property. It was a wonderful stay and we will surely return.

The perfect location with amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

This property is amazing - the cabin is awesome - very new and clean with everything you need for your stay - perfect industrial modern/rustic design - love it! The views from the porch are amazing with a great view of Mt Sopris from this property. This location is very convenient as it sits in between several local tourist stops - Beaver Lake, Reudi Reservoir, Maroon Bells, Penny Hot Springs, the bike trails (Rio Grande and Aspen Canyon). I loved every minute of our stay - thank you for sharing your property on home away/vrbo - I would come back in a heartbeat :)

Wonderful house in a rural setting located minutes from Carbondale with great restaurants and servic

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at many VRBO rentals around the western United States and Nina's cottage is one of our favorites. New and nicely appointed with everything you need to prepare a meal. Nice sheets and comfortable beds. Nice a quiet. The best part is Nina and family love dogs and welcomed our pack with open arms.

They are great people and made us feel welcome and also gave us our privacy.

Hope to see you again!
