About Kristine Tate

I am originally from the Upper Penninsula and left the area in 1983. I spent the last 20+ years in South Florida as a Flight Attendant and Business Owner. I recently relocated back to the Munising area to allow my children to experience wonderful Midwest living and the beautiful outdoors.

Kristine Tate purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Kristine Tate chose Grand Marais

I have always loved Grand Marais and felt a special attachment to the area many years ago. There is just something about being here that is really good for the soul! I purchased this home after seeing it while on the garden tour through Grand Marais. It is a very old home and needed quite a bit of attention. My friends and family thought I had lost my mind and tried to persuade me otherwise. There is such a great feeling inside this home. I knew there had to be alot of happy memories created and so much history. While I worked on the home, several local people stopped to visit and share those stories with me. Just as I had expected, they were amazing stories about great families and the wonderful lives that were lived on the corner of Carlson.

What makes this cottage unique

The location is just perfect. Being a few blocks from the water makes for great summer nights by the bonfire. It's much warmer inland, without the breeze, as summer temps in Grand Marais are generally on the cooler side. While in Grand Marais, I walk and bike everywhere I need to be. I also enjoy the evenings sitting on the porch and visiting with locals and tourists as they stroll the neighborhoods, dog walk, and bike. Car watching on H-58 is also entertaining as many exotic car clubs make the trip from Munising to Grand Marais daily. For the winter enthusiast, we have plenty of parking for trucks and trailers.

Wonderful Village Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose Grand Marais as a central location for our first visit to the UP. The cottage is adorable and has all the amenities you can think of, other than possibly a hot tub : ) Not that we missed this, since we were busy touring the attractions. The cottage is perfectly located to be able to visit Tahquamenon Falls on one day, and Pictured Rocks and other falls on another. It's also a block from Lake Superior, and a quick walk to town for dinner or provisions. Loved our stay here, and would definitely book again if we choose Grand Marais as our destination. Thank you for offering this gem of a cottage to rent!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the wonderful review Susan! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at the Mermaid Inn. We have researched the idea of adding a hot tub in the future, however, the location of our septic system prohibited us from moving forward. We hope to see you again for a future stay. Happy Holidays!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the nice review. We enjoyed having you as our guest. I had ordered some really great rugs in hopes they would have arrived prior to your stay to add more coziness for winter comfort. We can't wait for you to come back for another Visit!

Great place for All sports!

  • 5 of 5

Cute place in the Heart of Gd. Marais. Winter snowmobiling or summer fun! We enjoyed this 2 bdrm. unit with everything you need. Grand Marais Tavern was our Go-to place for food when we didn't feel like cooking. Plenty of room for parking the snowmobile trailer and an extra car too! Easy access to trails and town.

Charming cottage in the heart of Grand Marais

  • 5 of 5

Grand Marais is a quaint little town with lots of charm. Krissy's cottage complements the town perfectly. Everything you could need is provided. Plenty of towels and linens. There is something to do for anyone at any age here. There are lots of games at the house, the backyard is perfect for a bonfire and outside activities, the beach and parks are within walking distance, and you are only 2 blocks from Lake Superior Brewing Company (a MUST stop for us any time we are in GM). You are also located on the road that leads into the Pictured Rocks! The home is nicely decorated with a mermaid/beach theme. The colors brighten up the home making it that much more inviting. There is everything you could need to make meals at home in the kitchen. The bed in the master bedroom is a little noisey (I tend to toss and turn when sleeping and it creaked with each turn), but it was very comfy with blankets that seem to wrap themselves around you. Perfect for those chilly nights. This is a great place to stay with all the comforts of home. We couldn't ask for more! Thank you!
