Newly remodeled home nestled on a quiet, peaceful nature preserve, located in the Big Cypress Preserve, on the Florida Panther Corridor, in the heart of Everglades National Park which encompasses over 700,000 acres. It's also located on the Florida Great Birding Trail! Join the few naturalists to experience pristine Florida at it's best. A large variety of flora and fauna in different sections of the park.
Literally step outside the home to hike and photograph in every direction!! You can hike through the grasses or hike on the old swamp buggy trails. The trails are rugged and used by the native critters in the area.
The property is a very spiritual place encouraging meditation.
The hard packed limestone rock road is great for biking. No threat of fast moving cars, just the wind in the trees. The area is very quiet and serene as the birds and critters move about. Kayaking, canoeing, paddle board, airboats and swamp buggy tours close by, within a few miles. The Turner River Road boat launch is very near. You may also be lucky enough to spot a panther from there.
Full screened in porches surround the house, a wonderful breeze generally rolls through the house with all the doors open or put on the central air or heat. Pond on the property generally full of resident wildlife: alligator, wading birds, turtles, deer, bobcat, panther, butterflies, wild turkey, bears and more. Spend days wilderness hiking, birding, photography, biking from the house. Exploring the Everglades is an endless journey with few humans in your path. You can also experience the area with world famous photographer, Clyde Butcher. He offers small tour groups. The park rangers also provide walks, maps, advice, etc.. Everglades City is the closest town, 11 miles away, famous for it's local crabs, fishing, nature guides and air boat tours. It is still a quaint village offering shopping for groceries, restaurants and excellent tour guides. Chokoloskee cemeteries and the Ted Smallwood Store are also worth a visit as well as the Ten Thousand Islands and Marco Island. These islands are salt water fishing destination: snook, grouper, tarpon, red fish and drum are generally caught.

We've always had a great love for the outdoors, especially the Everglades, being such a unique ecosystem. It's the last 'frontier' in south Florida. It has always been a convenient place to visit since Tamiami Trail (US#41)cuts across the state. We've been enjoying the Everglades for 30 years it offers such great diversity in any given season. The flora and fauna change constantly and every day is a new surprise in the woods. Private homes are very seldom available for sale! Most are passed down to the next generation. We were so excited to buy a place right on the Fl Panther Corridor and the Fl Birding Trail. We knew the area must be full of wildlife.
Sue Nulman purchased this house in 2013
I fell in love with this area and sought this property out for years. Only a select few people have the privilege to stay in such a unique area. The pristine ecosystem surrounding the home makes this one special place. It is also very close to the scenic Ten Thousand Isles,Friends of Fakahatchee Park, Collier Seminole State Park, Fl Panther National Wildlife Refuge, The original Skunk Ape Research Headquarters and Miccosukee Indian villages.
Privacy and serenity within a naturalist's paradise best describes the location. Luxury and comfort best describes the home. Should you desire upscale dining and shopping, Naples is about 40 mintes away. Miami is 1 hour away. The Keys is 2 hour away.
Owner /mgr may stop by for maintenance.
Feel free to stroll through the woods to view large variety of critters in their natural habitat.
My husband and I spent almost 2 weeks here for our honeymoon, and we didn't want to leave!! The house itself is clean and pretty, with plenty of space and character. It has a nice layout, and the screened-in porch is just perfect. The local animals were a constant delight, as were the star-gazing opportunities at night. Being located in a nature preserve gives it such an amazing secluded feel - we felt so privileged to be able to stay here. Plus, it's location is convenient to Everglades and Biscayne National Parks, as well as 2 visitor's centers for the Big Cypress Reserve. It's also only 40 minutes from Naples, and less than that to the amazing Havana Cafe on Chokoloskee. We never lacked things to do, and hope to return so we can enjoy this gem again.
The cottage has been completely renovated. The renovation was carefully planned and very well executed.
Everything that you might need is there and anything that you don't isn't. The cottage was very clean and
The surroundings are as close to the original of Big Cypress environment as you can get.
The critters who visit are interesting and entertaining. The profusion of orchids inside and outside and all the
other colourful and natural vegetation is beautiful.
It was a relaxing and enjoyable three weeks in a beautiful, peaceful location. And it was close enough to many
nature preserves such as Six Mile Cypress and Corkscrew Swamp and shopping in Fort Myers, if so desired.
We would definitely recommend this home to friends and relatives who enjoy the natural world.
Many thanks, Sue.

Dear Sue, your home is a jewel! Furnished with everything one could possibly need, plus many artistic details. Books and Games kept us busy in the evening and the bicycles provided gave us the opportunity to move around this wonderful Preserve. Mind you, we found it hard to leave this peaceful and tranquil place. Why should we, wildlife came to us: deers, turkeys, foxsquirrels, songbirds, egrets, ibis ...... not to forget the numerous fruittrees, colourful flowers and orchids abound. Regretably we stayed only for one week but look forward to a much longer stay next time. Best regards Christa and Dieter
Our second stay here and will definitely come back. We enjoy the extremely quiet location with abundance of Florida wildlife. Home is well equipped and very clean and comfortable. Took a few day trips, but spent most of the three weeks relaxing on site. Thank you Sue!
Very unique experience. If you like to be off the beaten path and be surrounded by wildlife, you'll want to stay here. Many great photo ops.
The attraction of this property for us when we booked was the abundance of the wildlife visiting the property and we weren't disappointed. We spent hours in the screened porches watching the creatures turn up for the food supplied by the owner that we put out daily. You really will see the animals that Sue has included in her advert and some are happy for you to be out in the yard with them at feeding time. If you like photographing wildlife and flowers/plants this is the place for you.
The property was well equipped with everything we needed and more. The washing machine and iron were welcome since we had just come off a cruise and needed to refresh some of our clothes. We also used the bikes supplied.
The owner Sue promptly answered all of my enquiries during the booking process and leading up to our arrival and was there to greet us and show us around the property.
I would recommend this property to my nature loving family and friends but not those who prefer more superficial things like shopping, sunbathing, hanging around swimming pools etc.
Apart from watching the wildlife and riding the bikes we went on an airboat ride, a swamp buggy tour, to the Miccosukee Indian Village Arts Festival, Naples, Marco Island, Everglades City and Chokoloskee. From Chokoloskee we went on a boat tour of the 10000 Islands run by the Smallwood Store where we saw dolphins, manatees, an abundance of bird life and visited a natural beach on one of the islands which was full of shells and beach debris which was great to photograph. This boat ride was the highlight of our holiday (apart from the house).
We feel fortunate to have stayed at this house and would highly recommend staying here to nature lovers.
Please note this luxury cottage is located in Ochopee, NOT Everglades City, it is approximately a 15 minute drive from Everglades City.
This property is suited for nature lovers only!
Luckily, there are no box stores, shopping malls or chain owned restaurants nearby. This location is pristine, just like it was back in the 1970's when the park service acquired most properties to form the park. If you need to have a shopping afternoon, head west into Naples about 40 miles for your fix.
Out here you will find only the wilds of South Florida. You can easily take day trips or half day trips to attractions or beaches in Naples or Miami. All photos included in my site are real, no photo shop or other devices were used. Real animals playing, eating and co- existing together, for real!!
