What makes this cottage unique

This is a cozy spot, not far from downtown Edgartown and the beach. There is parking if you bring a car, but the bike path and bus are very near if you do not. There is a small kitchen and a water view.

Guestbook comments from the owner

It was great. Owners very nice and beautiful view.

It was okay

  • 3 of 5

Not what I expected, water view yes, not exactly what one thinks. The 'cottage' was quaint, about 10 minute drive to town. Would've be nice to have a DVD player and a bigger bed. Over all it's okay. Never had a key though and had to leave the sliding door unlocked as the 'door' wouldn't unlock. The locals are unbelievably nice and full of info. Food was good and the restaurant staff are so nice.

Perfect for what we were looking for. Nice quite get away weekend on the Vineyard. Cottage was basic, but had everything we needed. Hosts were very nice.

Quaint and central

  • 4 of 5

Guest house was perfect for our needs. Not within walking distance to town several miles from both Oak Bluffs and Edgartown but central between the 2 locations. Bikes were available and could easily get to Edgartown but not practical to get to Oak Bluffs or South Beach which is by far best beach! Would definitely stay again!

Overpriced Nightmare

  • 1 of 5

I gave a 1 star review for the following reasons:

The guest house had lots of spiders, moths, and other bugs that managed to enter the residence every day and night. It was extremely uncomfortable, and almost unbearable to constantly worry about all the bugs.

There was a very musty and damp smell in the house, and no dehumidifier to help the cause. My girlfriend and I both have sinus infections, and I wouldn't be surprised if there was mold in the house because of the dampness.

The guest house was listed on 4th street, but the entrance was on 3rd street. This was not given in the description, and I only found the residence because of my understanding of the streets in the Vineyard.

We were woken up by the rod and gun club every morning, and this should be divulged in the description.

We reached out to the host because the advertised wifi was nonexistent, and got no response.

The view was nice, and the property has potential to be a nice cozy getaway. Under the current conditions, it was very unpleasant and we debating leaving after the first night. The fact that we payed over 150 dollars per night to live in this bug infested shack will continue to bug me until my next visit.

Owner's Response: Hi Max, I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay at our guest house. I wish you had said something when you were here and we would have tried to make things better for you. . There is a dehumidifier as well as an AC unit. Maybe using them would have helped. Again, I wish you had said something as there is wifi ,and we would have made sure it was working. You seemed as though you were enjoying your stay , but I'm sorry that you didn't. MIMI I'm very sorry that

Nice centrally located cottage.

Don't know what the last guy who wrote that bad review was expecting... But we loved it and thought it was a very cute and comfortable place to stay. My girlfriend and I arrived on Friday for the long memorial day weekend. The house was tidy and the lady (Mimi) who was renting it was there to great us. We enjoyed this place especially because it has a kitchen, comfortable living room and is very reasonable priced when you consider your on Martha's Vineyard. Mimi was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and even let us barrow two bikes so that we could get around to the beach and town. Edgartown was only a 10 min. bike ride and so was the beach. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice quiet getaway. Marthas Vineyard was so much fun and this rental worked out perfectly for us. 5 Stars... and we will definitely be back again.

Sorry to say, DO NOT stay! And no waterview from unit, maybe from owner's unit.

We(2 adults, 1 child) stayed here for 2 of the 3 nights we reserved. We booked this unit as the end of a summer vacation when we returned to the U.S. After a few weeks in the African bush staying in safari camps, we were not expecting to stay in finer accommodations...just a place to lay our heads. This unit is far from it. The property is centrally located between Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs and Edgartown, but there is nothing near it. Other than the Martha's Vineyard Rod and Gun Club, which is directly across the street from this property. So you will be hearing gunfire throughout the day from 10 to 5. Upon our arrival to this property, we found it had 3 fans blowing on full to air it out. This was useless because it had a horrid smell of mildew which seemed to permeate everything...and there was no masking it. When we looked further, there were mouse droppings scattered in some areas including cabinets. The size and decor is satisfactory, but everything is old and outdated. I believe the property owner had this vacant inlaw unit in her backyard and thought it could generate some income. However, it is not habitable without some degree of renovation. Additionally, the hot water is supplied by an on-demand heater mounted to the wall in the bathroom. The problem was that when you turn on the shower, the water flow(pressure) was not sufficient enough to cause the heater to turn on. So we had to run the sink faucet at the same time. The water temp would only reach warm, never hot, even though we adjusted the water heater to maximum.

As I first mentioned, we had booked this unit for 3 nights during July of 2014. This was peak season for the vineyard, so there were no other accommodations available when we arrived...unless we paid 3 times as much. So we decided to leave all our belongings in our rental car, and stay out all day until we had to return to sleep here. We tried this for the first 2 days, but we could not stand the stench of mildew, my wife was repulsed by the mouse droppings, and my conscious would not allow me to have our child sleep in these conditions. For the third day we chose to leave even though we had paid for that night, and stay in a hotel in Edgartown for 3 times the cost... it was so worth it.

I cannot believe someone, in good conscious, would feel that it's ok to take someone's money and provide such poor accommodations. In the end, it doesn't matter. I would not have stayed if it were free. Do yourself a favor...Avoid!!
