This apartment has two bedrooms. One bedroom has two twin beds that can become one luxurious king size bed. The other bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed with an entrance to the private deck. Each bedroom has AC and the bathrroom is split into two sections, toilet and shower on one side and the double sink on the other. The great room with kitchen and living area is designed for your comfort. The outside deck has a gas grill and a dining area. This rustic apartment is set amongst gardens that are seemingly never ending. Full of lush tropical plants that are attractive to hummingbirds and smell divine! As you walk the grounds there are places to sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The pool deck has lounge chairs where you can catch some of our strong tropical rays and a pool to cool you off. Iguanas and other wildlife enjoy passing by the pool deck and getting some sun too! We also have dogs available for the dog lovers who miss their dogs on vacation. All the fun of snuggling a dog without the work of feeding and walking or the expense of traveling your dog. Due to the layout and rustic nature of this beautiful piece of paradise we do not allow children.
Quiet but close to town, short walk to the Westin.
We enjoyed our stay at Under the Rainbow. It was just the right size for our family of 3 and is located close to Cruz Bay (although a car is needed to get anywhere). It has beautiful rock walled outdoor stairways and lots of flowering plants. The pool is large and is kept very clean. Linda was friendly, reliable and helpful. We never saw the dogs but there were a couple friendly kitties hanging around. There are a couple things renters should be aware of though. The water at the place is not treated. We used bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, making coffee and cooking. Also, we liked that the place had lots of operable windows and a sliding door in one bedroom, but there were many small holes in the screens. There are a lot of mosquitoes in the area and a fair number found their way into the house since we liked keeping the windows open. There is a hand-held bug zapper available, which was quite useful! There is also a very beautiful rooster that likes to start crowing at about 4 am. So there were a few annoyances that came along with the rustic character. On the other hand, the price was a little less than comparable places that we considered. I just think people should be aware of the untreated water and that there will be mosquitoes in the house if the windows are kept open.
Linda was so wonderful to us and took extra care of us as her first honeymooning couple. Everything we could want or need was stocked in the kitchen and bathroom and she made sure we knew how to get around and that we wore plenty of sunscreen. This villa is peaceful and tucked away but very close to everything you need. A perfect spot to stay for your vacation!
There's not enough that I can say about Under the Rainbow. We knew it was for us the moment we saw it listed, and Linda was an excellent host! We will most definitely be back to STJ, and will be looking up this listing!!
We had a wonderful, relaxing stay at "Under the Rainbow" on St John. Apartment was clean and well stocked. Grounds were beautiful with tropical flowers and iguana walking across the pool area which had a wonderful view out to the water. The hostess was very helpful and provided all the necessities of home and more. Great time.
This is our second time staying at under the rainbow. Once again, perfection. I can't get enough of this place and its beautiful gardens and orchids. Making my next reservation in October.
I will start this review out by saying this place exceeded our expectations and was amazing for a group of four (two couples). We are all in our mid to upper twenties, and we came to the island looking specifically for activities (hiking & snorkeling), and beaches, so we didn't expect we would spend any time at our rental unless we were sleeping. Once we were introduced to this rental, however, we found ourselves excited to come home each night to relax and have some fun.
Inside the rental, there are two bedrooms with large beds, a good sized kitchen, a living area that has a large flat screen TV with cable, and a really nice bathroom with the toilet and shower in a separate room from the sinks, which worked out really well for four people. A door in the living area leads you outside to an outdoor porch with a table, chairs, and a quality grill, which was amazing. Ten steps ahead there is a large pool (with a diving board), and an outdoor bar with a bathroom/shower attached. The pool alone was worth it. Great fun!
The rental also comes with everything you need for your adventures (towels, chairs, coolers, etc.), as well as most things you'll need for cooking (spices, seasonings, silverware, grilling utensils), everything except the food you'll eat. Luckily the cheapest grocery store on the island is less than a five minute drive away.
Location-wise it's great. Short drive to town and bars, shorter drive to pick up some cheap food. It's also really quiet. Every house on the hill is spaced out in such a way where you never really hear tons of noise. It's nice. You can definitely see the ocean from the pool, too.
I will say, though, the beaches worth going to on St. John are not walkable from here. I highly recommend being 25 or older so you can rent a Jeep, wake up early, spend all day having fun at the beaches, hit up happy hour in Cruz Bay on the way back for some Painkillers and Bushwackers (3 PM - 5 PM), head home for some grilling and pool action, and repeat that every day for the rest of your trip.
