About Susan Coy
We bought the home in 1999 and raised our 4 kids there in Calumet. It's a great place to raise your kids, visit historical sites, great for backpacking, snowmobiling, mountain biking, and just loving the great outdoors. Just recently we moved down state and wanted to let others enjoy and explore Calumet with the convenience of staying at a great home at a great price.

Why Susan Coy chose Calumet
This home was built in 1889 for the Tamarack Mine Head Engineer. We wanted to provide a large home where family and friends can enjoy being today with a lot space.
What makes this House unique
It has an enclosed front porch, great yard if you are bringing your pet, but the best part is the large open kitchen and dining room area with the warmth of the pellet stove for those cold nights.

Great, large house
We stayed with 8 people (4 children) in this house in September 2018. It is a great house with lots of space. Nonetheless, the house warms up really quick on chilly days. Appliances are also great.
Just a small negative point is the shower downstairs has a weird joystick-like controller, which is a bit tricky with kids and the heat of the water. But as said, this is just a very small issue and overall we had a wonderful stay.
Perfectly located for the Aspirus Great Deer Chase
The house seemed to be in a nice, quiet neighborhood and was the perfect size to accommodate two families with kids ages 20 to 9 years old. The house is fully stocked with dishes, cookware, and linens. It has a huge backyard and my daughter enjoyed the tire swing in the front yard. The Great Deer Chase both started and finished at the chalet at the Swedetown Recrational Area so we were able to ride our bikes there instead of the hassle of driving there and finding a parking spot. The owner was prompt and accommodating regarding questions any concerns we had during our stay.
Great overall House that is unbelievably huge in size. I loved the older style accents that the had
Everything was perfect from the house to the owner on answering any questions that I had. House was clean throughout and was perfect for us. Definitely recommend others to stay here.
Great spacious home within walking distance to downtown Calumet.
Was up in Calumet for the CopperDog 150 sled dog races. The Keweenaw is always a great place to spend some time regardless of the time of year, but the winter is particularly special. TONS of space in this historic home, it literally felt like the rooms kept going and going. It was only my wife and I, our two boys, and our dog. This home would be great for a big group or multi-family stay. Town was less than a mile from the home and we were able to walk down to where all the action was. The walk back was especially great given dark and clear skies, meaning lots of stars.
All the 1st floor rooms are very spacious; lots of room in the kitchen and separate dining area. Living room and den areas provide plenty of space for people to have their own place to stretch out. Only bummer was that the pellet stove wasn't working, but that was more for ambiance than anything else in our case. The house was plenty warm without it. Plan to stay here again with additional families in the future.
Calumet is a great place to have your base camp in the Keweenaw; you're generally within an hour of everything. Fun little downtown area and close to plenty of outdoor recreational activities.
Great location for exploring the Keeweenaw
The house is roomy and comfortable but don't expect luxury. We drove from there to Copper Harbor to explore the north coast and the next day- Brockway Mountain Drive. There was a children's theater production Friday night in the historic Calumet theater, which is a gem not to be missed
Has potential to be very nice
We did enjoy the house, and it easily could have been at least 4 star review, but it had not been freshly cleaned as evidenced by dead bugs on the windowsills and cobwebs in the staircase, someone's cigarette ashes left on a chair seat. The main bathroom did not have hand soap and the soap in the upstairs bath was mostly water. We liked the location, and the house was large, with an outdoor fire pit which we enjoyed. Overall not bad, just needs a better cleaning service with some attention to detail.
This home is located on a quiet road in Calumet, down the street, are The Swedetown Ski Trails and Bike Trails, and just around the corner are the Snowmobile Trails.
