About Jean Marshall

Jon and Jean purchased the property from an 80 year old school teacher and his wife who decided to retire in S. Carolina with their son. The husband and wife spent every summer for 40 years driving from Michigan to summer vacation here, and managing their cherry orchard.

Jean Marshall purchased this house in 2006

Why Jean Marshall chose Flathead Lake

We always dreamed of owning a place on the lake, and when we met this charming couple who wanted to sell to us, we decided to finally do it.

What makes this house unique

The beautiful lot, with the large fir trees toward the lake and the fruit trees in the back of the property were a great attraction to us. We wanted to have a beautiful place where our children and grandchildren could gather for family occasions, to have fun and build memories and strengthen bonds.

Wonderful Experience!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Lake House. I watched one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen from this incredible property. It had everything we needed and we would definitely go back! The hosts are very kind and helpful. So glad we chose to stay here.

Lakeside magic

  • 5 of 5

This was truly the perfect place for my family and my sisters family to gather. All of the elements were pitch perfect. The house was immaculate and well stocked. The pictures truly do not do it justice. We all yearn for warm summer days picking cherries and then having a 'fire swim'. We spent most of our time in the water and nearby outfitters hooked us up with paddleboards. It was a truly a magical place and I highly recommend it!

Fun little paradise on the lake

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time here. The location was perfect for running to Glacier Park and also to run to Polson. The orchard was a nice plus in which the kids were found often eating cherries. The dock was also a poplar spot for the kids as they seemed to grow gills there. The house was perfect for our needs and we spent many nights on the deck, dock and yard watching beautiful sunsets on the lake. The Marshalls are great people and very accommodating.

I’m a teacher and an artist from Austin, Texas who was in need of a sabbatical and inspiration. So, this last spring I spent February thru May in the Flathead Valley. I‘ve traveled a bit in my 40 years and I can honestly say that the experience I had at Jean and John’s house on Flathead Lake was one of the best experiences of my life. This spot on the lake is absolutely breathtaking. The cabin’s location gave me the opportunity to thoroughly explore the region, but also enjoy my seclusion. During the early spring the lake is quiet. I probably saw five boats in the first two months.

I headed down to The Raven (a local bar down the road) when I felt like socializing and to eat better than average bar food. Normally, I got up for coffee on the deck and watched the waves crash on the shore. A courting pair of Canadian geese (Geraldine and Oscar) joined me regularly. At the end of April, I started to see families of deer and black bears. Actually, I only saw one black bear in the neighbor’s yard. But, on my daily walks thru the yard and orchard I saw evidence of nightly bear traffic. That explained Will’s (the gorgeous Labrador two properties down) faint barking in the early mornings. I liked to call him Willfull, he was a treat to be around. Making fires in the pit and walking along the beach in the evening scouring for rocks and driftwood became a regular thing. The extended beach doesn’t exist in the summer when the lake is up. Thus, in summer months you might not get the opportunity to meet the neighbors.

The warmth of May brought all the flowers. Cherry and apple tree blooms, wild columbines, peonies, poppies etc. The colors were gorgeous. I spent hours trying to identify everything and Jean was incredibly graceful in her attention to my queries. Did I forget to say that she’s a totally rad lady?

So, about the house. It’s really nice. It’s exactly like the pictures. The kitchen had everything I needed for cooking and much more. I use a French press and grinder, so I brought my own. The beds and bathrooms were more than comfortable. My Mom came to stay with me for a week. She’s used to 4 star accommodations in Italy. She absolutely loved it. She couldn’t get over the majesty of the surroundings and quickly adapted to full days of exploring with wine and games on the back porch as the sun went down.

Let me just say that I would go back every spring to Jean and John’s lake house if I could.

The Ultimate Relaxing vacation

  • 4 of 5

Jean and Jon are great folks who work to make their home warm and relaxing for all. Nice house with all the regular amenities. There are neighbors to either side of the house but you really can’t see them. It’s a great place for a relaxing vacation and to be able to come and go with no pressures. There are hiking trails in the mountains nearby or you can take an hour drive Glacier National Park for some great scenery and hiking. If you’d just like to relax around the house, walk across the back yard and go swimming or fishing in the lake. We spent many relaxing evenings sitting around the fire pit, drinking some wine and watching the sunset across the lake. There isn’t any cable TV, but there is internet and the TV has Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu, so if you have accounts with any of these services you can still watch TV. The beds are very firm so if you want them to be softer take a comforter and put it under the fitted sheet. We would definitely stay here again!

We care for the property with organic methods. We have trees that have Flathead Sweet Cherries, Apricot, Transparent Apple, and Bartlet and Oriental Pear trees.

The shore station is not operational, therefore you would not be able to dock your boat. There is a marina at Blue Bay that is less than a mile away that has boat slips for rent.
