This unique waterfront fully-furnished Artist's cabin has a serious funk factor that you will immediately fall in love with! Adorned with ocean-inspired stained glass throughout and custom built-ins, there is not a square foot of drywall to be seen here. The 2 bedrooms feature very comfortable queen-sized beds with high quality linens; the bathroom is modern and relaxing with a full tub, shower and raised granite counter sink. Living rooms feature modern furnishings, blue-tooth stereo, TV and a cozy wood stove. Kitchen is bright, fully equipped and includes a few of our favourite west-coast cookbooks to inspire you (or your personal chef!) Relax in the oceanfront deck hot-tub as you gaze in awe at incredible sunsets or after you return from a beautiful evening paddle (kayaks are available for your use). Our Artist's Cabin is in a prime location in Lantzville - just 15 minutes from the Departure Bay ferry and 5 minutes' drive from Woodgrove Centre. It's very easy to get here, and you will not want to leave!!
What I would like to tell you is that this place is horrible, no view, everything is far away, and it generally was a really crappy time. And that would be a lie, but maybe then I could keep this as my little secret.
The truth is that this quirky, funky little cottage was balm for the soul for 5 glorious weeks of working sabbatical. The view was mesmerizing. The location was perfect. The house is well-kept and was (mostly) very comfortable and efficient and everything worked ... including the hosts. If I lived in Nanaimo, I am certain that Judy and I would be fast friends and that is saying a lot because I'm a bit standoffish in such situations, but she is an absolute dear, as is her somewhat salty dad! I say "mostly" comfortable because I was working from the dining room table, so in the future I will know to bring a good desk chair!
The member of our family that probably loved it most is our Good Old Girl, a 14 year old lab mutt. We go camping with her all the time, but she has never been on this kind of trip (and neither have we, at least not for 5 weeks!), never seen the ocean, and (we live in the desert Southwest) never been on grass other than in parks. She was thrilled. She had a spring in her step and oh, the smells coming off the ocean, and under that tree, and down by the water. Her favorite thing was to sit with us on the deck in the morning with coffee and the evening with wine, watching the squirrels (and being duly scolded by them!), sniffing the air, running after the odd raven or two, and generally enjoying life. We agreed with her assessment that this was exactly what we all needed.
Now, when we are having a bad day, we look at each other and say, "I sure wish we were at our Other House."
So don't come here. Stay away. You'll hate it. Really. :-)
This is a fully equipped, extremely well maintained cabin that exceeds expectations. The kitchen has everything you could require for any culinary experience. The owners are very attentive and responsive to any issue, they installed a new dishwasher within 24 hours of it malfunctioning! The ambience is so restful, artistic and soulful. Beds are great, hot tub very well maintained and clean, garden is beautiful (I had fresh herbs, potatoes, apples, plums and grapes!). It is very clean with many homey, tasteful touches- great art.
The view at the edge of the property is spectacular where there is a charming little cabin/gazebo - perfect for meditation, reading, etc., ... Great for a rainy day! Or any day!
The description for the Oceanfront Cabin exceeded our expectations. The cabin was clean and well maintained with lots of pictures and finishing touches that made if feel like home. The garden was perfect for children to run around and help themselves to fruit and vegetables (although there is no fence going down to the beach so you would need to be careful with toddler aged children). The cabin is in a peaceful location with easy access to the beach and beautiful views. The owner was helpful and friendly. Lantzville is well located to explore the Nanaimo, Parksville and Qualicum.
This was a wonderful place to stay for two couples. The decor is delightfully quirky with art work on the walls and stained glass in some of the windows. And of course there are the smells and sounds of the ocean at the end of the property.
The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped for making meals at home. There is easy shopping nearby for groceries etc.
I would highly recommend this place and hopefully we can come back ourselves one day.
Judy (the owner) was very friendly and helpful - we met her once we arrived and then texted back and forth for any little questions that we had.
We stayed at the "Artist's Cabin" for 12 wonderful days and wouldn't change a thing. The cabin was beautifully decorated with touches of eclectic hip throughout! That was part of the fun - we discovered something fun and new daily - from stained glass to nooks and crannies. Expansive vegetable and flower gardens with a huge back yard leading to the ocean. Lovely beach with both sand for sunning and beachcombing through tidal pools. We relished our privacy and while we felt a million miles away from the craziness of everyday working life, we were five minutes from amenities - the best of both! The cabin was spotlessly clean and you included many extras that this Mom appreciated very much: Lots of hangers in the closets, spices, puzzles and games, many books and even herbal teas! Thank you for sharing your lovely home Judy, we are counting the days until we return!
We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend ocean side retreat. Seamlessly blending the charm of a quaint artists cabin with the modern amenities of a beach side resort this rental was better than advertised. Meticulously maintained, the owner left no detail unchecked. From the heated bathroom floors, well stocked kitchen and exceptionally comfortable beds to the vegetables in the garden and ocean views from the jacuzzi on the deck, Judy has created a warm and inviting atmosphere that will surely satisfy a wide range of travelers. Close (but not too close) to a good swimming beach and great rocky waterfront for beach combing and nature exploring, the location is superb. Although we spent most our time relaxing and enjoying the sea side locale and didn't get a chance to explore the surrounding area much, I would definitely recommend checking out the Sunday farmers market in Lantzville if your travels find you here over the weekend. Being a new listing to VRBO, I count myself lucky to have stumbled upon this jewel before the word gets out. I would definitely recommend this to friends or family and will surely look to stay here again the next time our travels bring us to the Nanaimo area. Thank you, Judy for making our mini-vacation extra special.
