All four seasons are a wonderful time to visit the Southwestern United States. Spring weather can have a few storms but generally we have sunny days and the national parks are open, and the weather is beautiful for exploring. Summer days are for bike riding, hiking, boating, and adventures. Fall is a wonderful time in the Southwest region for your color watch - seeing the trees change into their glorious new wardrobe before winter. Hunters can have all the amenities and still be close to a multitude of good hunting spots. Wintertime equates to great skiing at either Purgatory (formerly known as the Durango Mountain Resort) or Telluride. Cross country ski almost anywhere when the snow is good. The Dolores River is literally 300 yards from your front door and McFee Reservoir is 1 mile away. Go skiing in Telluride or Durango, great mountain biking can be found at Boggy Draw (3 miles away) or Phil's World (12 miles away) just to name a few. Visit Mesa Verde or check out the Ute Mountain Tribal park to fulfill your archeological dreams. Truly there are too many things to do in the area to list them all.

About Roberta Henes
Steve is a true local, born and raised here and Robby is an 'almost local' having moved to the area when she was 5 years old. After working overseas for almost 15 years, Robby came home to take a break and met Steve who convinced her that life in Dolores was worth sticking around for! Steve currently continues his furniture restoration business in and amongst restoring old cars and improving on some mountain property. Robby is deeply involved in a seed company providing native grasses and wildflowers for reclamation. Pickle ball is the newest addition to their lives adding more exercise and fun. Beware if you stay very long we will try to recruit you.
Roberta Henes purchased this House in 1990
Why Roberta Henes chose Dolores
201 is one of the older homes in Dolores. In its day it was considered a luxurious home (although by todays standards it was very small) and built by a local doctor. Before Steve purchased the home in 1990, it was a day care center. With Steve's construction skills and artistic vision, the home has been updated and modernized including raising the roof and turning the head knocker second floor into a relaxing and spacious master bedroom. Influences from Mexico grace the kitchen and bathroom. Funky spaces that would make most people scratch their head have been converted into great storage or interesting architectural features. Robby and Steve live in an upstairs flat next door with a huge open air plan. We don't need the space of 201 and are always excited to share it with new people.
What makes this House unique
As you can probably see from the photo's this house makes you want to explore it. With interesting dormers and porches, it calls for a good book and cup of coffee, or supplies a haven after a long hike. It is a landmark in Dolores and if you have the good sense to visit in December, we normally have a sailboat out front decorated from head to toe in lights.

Fun and relaxing time!
We had a wonderful stay in this small town and quaint property. It was more than perfect for our needs - there were 8 of us total, including an infant and we had plenty of room and space to enjoy our time together. The house is really cool and all of the bedrooms were very comfortable and cozy. We cooked almost every night we were there and had everything we needed to make meals. The kids enjoyed going down to the river (nearby) and skipping rocks. Next time we visit Mesa Verde, we would love to come back to stay.
This home is comfortable, very clean and charming. The host, Robbie and Steve, are great folks and were available if we had any questions. I would definitely recommend this property if your needing a place to stay in Dolores.
We loved hosting you all. Super respectful and pleasant family. Hope grand baby and mother are doing great. It is not every day that we get to enter into the excitement of a new child being welcomed into the family! Thanks for enjoying our home. That makes us happy.
Nice Quaint and functional home
We Stayed over the Thanksgiving holiday and enjoyed it. Nice spaces that accommodated our party of 9 well.
So glad Thanksgiving in Dolores at our home fit well for your family. Your Turkey Dinner sure smelled great! And glad that we had all the kitchen utensils needed to fix and feed your gang.

We stayed in this house while visiting family in town. It is a unique and spacious home in a great location. We also enjoyed Pony Expresso right outside the door! We didn't get to meet Robby, but Steve was super friendly! Hope to be back!
A great time in Dolores
The house in Dolores was completely charming and very individual. There was plenty of space for a family of 5 including 2 teenagers and we all felt completely at home. The house also provides an ideal location for exploring the area, we went into the mountains around Telluride and found Mesa Verde incredible. We want to thank Robby and Steve for their hospitality.
HOST THIS FAMILY! They are fun guests, interesting and interested in everything around them. So glad you enjoyed our home. That is what makes it fun. Best of all your future adventures.
Located in the heart of the Ancient World of the Anasazi, there is a wealth of archeological adventure in the area. You can visit three different National Parks, each as a days adventure. Mesa Verde, Canyonlands and Arches National Park. Hiking, biking and fishing are the reasons locals live here! National forests and BLM lands on many sides guarantee adventures in the outdoors. Come to Dolores if you want to experience the great outdoors and its many glories and then retire to your comfortable 'home' for the night! ACTIVITIES: If hiking makes you happy, there are a few good trails right out of Dolores and then innumerable hikes in all directions, take your pick: alpine lakes, geyser hot springs, 14,000’ peaks, indian ruins, desert wildflower hikes, aspen tree adventures, ghost towns, the variety is limitless. Our region is renowned for archaeological ruins. Mesa Verde National Park enjoys the greatest fame, however, you can go exploring on your own at Canyon of the Ancients or Cedar Mesa (Utah). The Ute Mountain Ute tribe has tours guided by members of their tribe on reservation land, taking you to places not seen by many. Mountain bikers have many options to choose from including Phil’s World and Boggy Draw close by and Alien Run in Aztec, New Mexico. Skiers will find Purgatory ski area in Durango or Telluride ski area meet all their ski expectations (given that we get snow) and cross country skiers won’t be disappointed either. Chicken Creek is one of our favorite locations. Sport Fishermen will find the Dolores River a wonderful challenge and many other tributaries and high mountain streams offer trout to the intrepid. There are so many more opportunities for adventure and exploration in the region. Moab, Utah, Canyonlands National Park, Arches National Park, Canyon of the Ancients, Durango – Silverton narrow gauge Railroad, Monument Valley and more. We have assembled a pretty good library of brochures and articles on many of the attractions of the area so you can plan your vacation from your home away from home. As you may have noticed, you come here for nature and adventure and sport. We are not a shopping mecca – although there is some world class American Indian Jewelry in the region.
