Updated June, 2017: The entire road has been paved, making it much easier to access. Prior to this, it was a gravel road and difficult to access without 4WD/AWD. The incline is steep between the switchbacks, so low horsepower vehicles (small 4 cylinder cars) or vehicles with no weight on the drive wheels (pickup trucks) may still have difficulty getting to the house. During winter months, especially if it snows, you will still need 4WD/AWD, as you still need to drive up to the top of the mountain. If weather is of concern, please purchase trip insurance. We do not refund due to bad weather or difficulty getting up the road to the house.

About Ginny Mahaney
We are a family of 4, all of whom love the outdoors. We fell in love with West Jefferson 12 years ago when we first visited for our 5 year anniversary, and have visited several times a year ever since. Over the years we've rented a large number of homes in the area, and always found them wanting in some way. We bought this land in 2005 and are thrilled to finally finish building the home that is our idea of the perfect getaway. The home is on 4 acres so is completely secluded and private, but is on the backside of the mountain next to West Jefferson so its just an 8 minute drive to the store if you need a last minute item for dinner. We've also made sure that the home has everything on the inside that we've missed in other properties such as sharp knives, a spice rack, electric can opener, lots of baking, cooking, and serving dishes, all the cooking tools you have at home, a roaster, a crock pot, a pantry to store enough food for 12 people, a table and eating area that can accommodate 10-12 people, spacious shower stalls with shower systems that include removable hand showers in all bathrooms, as many windows as we could squeeze in, great natural lighting throughout, and lots of stuff to do onsite. We hope you enjoy the home as much as we do and if there is something you'd like us to add, please let us know!

Always a Pleasure coming up from FL to this Cabin
Great Owners' Great Place with plenty of room. Will be back in the Summer for a 4th Time. Paving the driveway was a great addition.
Dream Castle In The Sky (part 2)
This was my second time staying at this Castle in the sky.
I left a review back January 2015, this time again I had a wonderful time. The place was still well maintained and clean.
There was a major change that I liked, the driveway up to the house.
It's paved now, it makes the driveway up to the house easier to drive up.
The views are phenomenal!
Thank you Ginny, your home is amazing.
Great job with the driveway !
Beautiful views and great fun!
We really enjoyed our time at Paddy’s Peak! We were able to all sit together for a meal with the beautiful view. The living room was spacious and cozy. Having the game room downstairs was great because we couldn’t hear anything while the kids played. It was far enough from town to feel secluded, but close enough that we could just head down to the store or cute shops if we needed. No regrets on staying at Paddy’s Peak.
Paddy's Peak is a beautiful property which is very well maintained. The house was very comfortable for a family Christmas holiday. The driveway is a bit steep but we all made it up and it was a small price to pay for the views. Emails to the .owner was answered promptly, it was a great place to stay, near the town and grocery store. Highly recommend.
Overall the property was wonderful.
Overall the property was wonderful. We had three (3) complaints upon arrival - (1) the property was pitch dark. (2) Above all, the stairs leading up to the main door were icey - covered with patches of ice and to say they were slippery was an understatement. I strongly urge the property maintenance to address this issue as it is extremely dangerous. (3) Lastly, the heat was not on and the house was freezing. I would recommend this property to everyone and our family hopes to visit again.
Thank you for the review! We are so glad to hear that you thought the property was wonderful overall and enjoyed your stay. We also appreciate knowing any issues our tenants experience, we can't fix what we don't know about.
There is a motion detector light outside and the switch has a cover over it so tenants don't turn it off, but you can stick your finger in from the side to turn it off and apparently the previous tenant did that. This is good feedback and we will put a full cover over it so that tenants can't turn it off at all.
I'm very sorry that the stairs were slippy on your arrival and we will definitely do our best to make sure that doesn't happen again.
As for the heat, like all rental homes we set the house at 55 degrees in the winter when it is empty for a week or more. We've had the same issue when we rented other homes in West Jefferson in the past, and that is why when we build this home we wired it to be a Smart Home. At some point in the near future we will be adding new Smart thermostats so we can turn the heat up and down remotely. That way we can turn it up the morning tenants are scheduled to arrive so the home is nice and warm when they get there.
Our family loved everything about this beautiful home. It is very clean and worth every penny spent.
For the first time on a vacation we actually loved staying in, there was so much to do with the children in the downstairs arcade. The children enjoyed Smores by the fire overlooking the beautiful view. The house was very clean and sanitary we will for sure be visiting again soon!
Thanks for the lovely review and we look forward to hosting you again soon!
West Jefferson is a quaint mountain town in Ashe County. Ashe County is in the north western most part of North Carolina that boarders VA and TN, in fact you can see all 3 states from neighboring Mount Jefferson. West Jefferson is the perfect mountain retreat.
Additional information about rental rates
Paddy's Peak is located at the top of Paddy Mountain. The road up to the cul de sac is paved, however the home is accessed via a driveway that leads from the cul de sac to the house. It is steep and has two switchbacks. A 4WD/AWD vehicle is highly recommended, and is required in winter months. Most front wheel drive, 6 cylinder vehicles can make it up the driveway in the summer months. Vehicles that are rear wheel drive or 4 cylinder are prohibited as they will cause damage to the road.
