Overview

About the property

3 Bdr, 2 Ba Country House, Near Town, Fenced Backyard Fireplace, Dogs & Kids OK

This lovely spot is just over a mile from the Woodstock Town Green, situated on a small road, nestled into a hillside, where you can watch the leaves change during the day and enjoy a cozy wood fire at night. A real feeling of privacy. Lots of room inside and out for relaxation. The grounds are an interesting combination of lawns, rock gardens, expanses of wood decking and stone work, sheltered nooks, and patio spaces—all designed informally around a fantastic in-ground heated salt water swimming pool. (Pool season is approximately from the end of May through September 5..)

We are only minutes from the main venue for the Woodstock Comedy Festival and the Woodstock Film Festival. And this is a perfect spot to relax and watch the leaves change.

The yard is fully fenced in, making it a great place for children and/or dogs (For insurance reasons we cannot accept Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, or Dobermans). The fenced portion includes the pool area, so supervision may be needed during the open-pool season.

The house is a two-level bungalow dating from the late 1940’s, with Arts & Crafts-style inspiration. The inside is airy and light filled thanks to several sets of French doors and sliding panels that lead to outside. The eat-in kitchen is vintage, with updates for modern cooking. It is serviceable to the Thanksgiving dinner level , and it is lovely for cozy coffee klatching. The spacious, open living/dining area has a cathedral ceiling and wood-burning stone fireplace.

There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms have queen-sized beds, and the third has an antique brass double bed. The third bedroom/study, upstairs, has a cathedral ceiling as well as a spectacular view. The house sleeps 6 adults comfortably. (If there are children, it may be possible to accommodate them on the pull-out futon couch—please discuss this with the property manager.)

The house is stocked with the essentials you need to enjoy your stay. For the inside: soft sheets and towels, many pillows, firewood, plenty of cookware, plates and utensils, TV, broadband, a game console, books and DVDs, washer/dryer. For the outside: grill, pool toys, picnic and lounging furniture, hammock, and even a few sleds!

For those who like to ski, Belleayre Mountain is only 30 minutes away.

What makes this house unique

Real privacy, but only about a mile to town. The fireplace in the great room is beautiful and welcoming during the cooler months; the saltwater pool is refreshing during the warmer months. The house is spacious and comfortable, a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy Woodstock and surrounding areas. Children and dogs can have a fabulous time, too, in the large fenced-in backyard.

Beautiful house on a hill nestled in the woods near Woodstock Main street

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at this house a few times and love it more each time. The house is beautiful, homey, well stocked, and super comfortable. There is nothing like grilling on the deck in the evening and relaxing by the fire at night. It is a nice walk or a quick drive into Woodstock proper; close enough to enjoy what the town has to offer but secluded enough to feel like a tranquil countryside getaway. During the warm months the pool is awesome! It has a great backyard which is perfect for dogs. The house is spacious and well-furnished. Looking forward to coming back again!

Great house, will definitely come again

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I played hookie and spent two weekdays here. It was really wonderful. We loved the house. It was so warm and comfortable. We could really relax here. We stayed in a lot, cooked mostly at the house, but we did explore Woodstock one of the days, it it was nice that it was so close.

The great room was, well, great, and we took full advantage of the fireplace. We both caught up on wome reading we'd been wanting to do. We will certainly be back.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The property was well situated - very close to town and amenities but felt like being in the country. The pool was fantastic and the house was itself was nice. The property manager was great and made our stay easy and relaxing. We look forward to going back again.

Very, very disappointed

  • 1 of 5

We have rented many, many houses from HomeAway and this is the first and only time I have written a negative review. This house needs a thorough cleaning out. When we opened the front door we were hit by a strong musty and urine smell. It smelled like an old damp house that had not been opened in years. (Our friends immediately went into town and bought perfumed candles to try to cover up the smell as well as chaise lounge pads to cover up the broken furniture by the pool. They spent $90 and were not reimbursed) All of the old dirty white plastic furniture by the pool was broken and after we complained the manager went out and replaced it for us but that furniture should never have been put out in the first place.

The house manager came by and confirmed the smell and said possibly there had been a leak in the roof. But there's no way the smell happened overnight and she should have not rented out this house in the condition it was in.

On our third day she brought us DampRid and air fresheners for the closets but it was too late to be effective for our stay.

The smells in the closets and bedrooms were overpowering. We could not even open the windows to help air it out because there were no screens up. Kitchen cupboards and drawers were full of old junk and old food and cobwebs. Windows and windowsills were dirty and sticky. Chests of drawers and closets smelled so you did not want to put any clothes away in anything. All of the beds had uncomfortable hard or lumpy mattresses, old flat pillows. No one slept well. Futon in the living room was covered in an old dirty cover and no one would sit on it until we put a bedspread over it. Old is the operative word although they use the word "vintage".

We would have left as soon as we arrived but we had guests with us from England who had flown in just for this vacation and we felt we were stuck here or we would have no vacation at all and nowhere to rent last minute. I asked for a refund and was refunded only for one day. We only have one week for vacation and were so looking forward to our stay at this house. Everyone was upset and spent more time complaining about the house than enjoying it. The only good thing about the house was the pool was warm.

We even ran out of toilet paper and paper towels and we were only there four days.

Private, lovely surroundings, great pool

  • 4 of 5

Robyn was super nice and accommodating, and the house was spacious and sparkly clean. Kitchen could use some updating for those who like to cook, but overall we had a great time.
