In a time when many vacation places are over-built and overcrowded, The King's Cottage offers the perfect retreat amid the quiet of the beautiful North Woods. The King's Cottage is built on 80 wooded acres crossed by nature trails and enclosing two spring-fed lakes. The modern, wood-paneled cabin sleeps four comfortably in its two bedrooms, but the party can be larger if a couple of you want to camp on the campsite beside the smaller lake.
There is enough right on the property to fill your day. If you have brought some reading matter you may just feel like relaxing in the rocking chairs on the screened porch. You may want to fish for bluegill and bass from a rowboat on the smaller lake, or from a canoe on the larger one. You may want to walk through the woods or sit quietly on the overlook bench. Keep your eyes open for wildlife - deer, coyote, red fox, beaver, and bear, as well as grouse and many other kinds of birds, call this home! In the winter there's cross-country skiing.
Off the property, half a mile's walk will take you to Bearskin Creek for trout fishing, or the Bearskin Bike Trail. The Pinewood Country Club, with its eighteen-hole golf course and Dinner Theatre, is two miles away. The shops and restaurants of Minocqua, Tomahawk and Rhinelander are about 15 miles away in various directions. As one of our satisfied guests put it, 'This is a great place to get away from it all and still be able to get back.'
Father of three daughters. Enjoy most outdoor activities, especially silent sports.
Richard Wm. King purchased this cabin in 1985
We enjoy Northern Wisconsin and all the recreational activities it has to offer.
Hiking or cross country skiing on the miles of trails. Biking the Bearsking bike trail.
Boating on the Willow Flowage. Canoeing, swimming, fishing...
Thanks for letting us enjoy your great little place up here. Did a lot of hiking, card playing and enjoyed a few beers. It was nice getting away from my busy life and slow down a bit, enjoy nature! Thanks.
We had a very nice relaxing week at the cottage and spent most of our time catching up on reading, canoeing the lakes and hiking the trails with our dogs. Being located at the end of a dead end road provides the feeling of a more remote location while actually within close proximity to the conveniences of Tomahawk, Rhinelander and Minocqua and various outdoor recreation opportunities.
Exactly what we were looking for. We wanted to relax as a family. Weather was beautiful, loved being in the water. Was very peaceful, got the kids outside off the phone! Only thing would have liked a bigger dock, space was limited, my only complaint. Would love to come back! The dog was loving every minute, he swam and boated as well!!
A great cottage if you are interested in staying in the middle of the woods.
Want a get away? Here it is, away from it all. For two days we hiked from the front door starting point, swam in the lakes on the property and lived in peace without seeing another soul. Beautiful woods, clear waters and comfortable cabin makes for a perfect paradise. Nature is the best show on earth. Without any street lights the stars filled the sky, crazy nighttime thunder storm entertained, walks amazed, little canoe trips pleased us and swims refreshed. We had cell phone reception but never used it and saw restaurant nearby only when we left for we had no desire to leave the cabin until it was time to go home. Great little spot in the woods! PS Frank, the property manager, who lives nearby, wonderful resource. Number is in the cabin.
Waking up to Wood thrushes was awesome but price seemed very high compared to other cabins we've rented. Definitely not recommended for infants/toddlers. Cleanliness was not up to expectations.
Alright so for the first ten minutes I was skeptical. King's Cottage is tucked back in the woods and at first glance a bit rustic. Once you really look around though things change. The place is superbly cared for and kept up extremely well. The caretaker Frank was extremely helpful and never seemed to mind being called with questions. Even the owner was so nice when we called to get directions to get there. This was our first stay with "HomeAway" and will definitely not be our last. There where two small lakes on the property and lots of trails. We had a bit of a challenge finding the back lake but really enjoyed it once we found it. It is amazingly close to a wonderful bike/hiking trail so if you choose to go, don't forget your bikes. Mosquitoes are a slight issue, but nothing that bug spray and the right clothing won't fix.
The wilderness setting of our property offers artists and photographers an unparralel viewing experience. You will see pristene lakes that are still in their natural state. Few of these lakes still exist today in northern Wisconsin. Wildwood Wildlife Park is a great place to bring the entire family! Kids will enjoy looking and learning about a variety of animals. They even have a petting zoo! This park is located 2 miles west of Minocqua on Highway 70. Holiday Acres boasts 3 go cart tracks, miniature golf, pony rides and horseback riding! It is located at 7994 Hwy 51 S. in Minocqua. for reservations call (715) 356-4400. The Pinewood golf course is conveniently located 2 miles to the northwest of our property. The willow flowage and American Legion Forest are both located within 6 miles of our property.
