About Dan Heard

Kelly and I are happily married with 4 kids and have spent many happy summers in Rocky Mountain National Park – going back to 1993. We usually stayed at the YMCA and we would often dream of having a cabin right on the property there.

Dan Heard purchased this house in 2014

Why Dan Heard chose Front Range

This cabin’s property shares the Wind River, and we border the YMCA property, so we’ve achieved our dream. This home is also special to us because within 10 minutes you can hike right into the Park without getting in your car. The back of the cabin, especially the master bedroom balcony, gives a nice view of Mt Ypsilon.

What makes this house unique

Getting in and out year-round is achieved because we are on Highway 66, also called Tunnel Road, but this is not a “through” road – it ends about 500 yards past our property, so the traffic is minimal.

Amazing property with gorgeous views

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rivendell. The entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is less than a 5 minute drive. We had elk, deer, and turkeys on the property every day of our stay. The house is spacious and well stocked. The views from the decks are amazing.

Great home in beautiful setting

  • 4 of 5

Large home in gorgeous setting. Fit our party of 5 adults and 4 children well. Very well appointed kitchen. Beautiful views of the mountains, especially from balconies. Good location near RMNP but away from congestion of Estes Park. Many locales within the house for individuals or small groups to converse, read,

play games. One problem: Satelite TV signal did not work. Also dozens of light switches confusing to figure out; should be labeled. Lacks sufficient smoke detectors, especially in bedrooms. But overall we loved the house.

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying at Rivendell. We hope you made lots of great memories with your family. Unfortunately during your stay the weather may have contributed to poor satellite reception. We do have smoke detectors in all bedroom and the town/county completed an inspection prior to the rental season to ensure they were up to snuff. Please come back again.

So enjoyed waking up to the beautiful views of the mountains and enjoying a cup of coffee each morning on the upper deck! Rivendell was the perfect place for our multiple families ages 4 to 87! Wonderful family reunion

  • 5 of 5

Rivendell was perfect for the size of our family. The upper level was just right for a family of four with room to sleep, play games, watch tv and entertain other family members. The kitchen/dining area seated all of us with the extra chairs and stools placed around the area. As has been stated before, the kitchen was VERY well supplied. And it was lovely to have some spices and paper products left behind by others guests.

The lower level was also a great family mini-apartment. We spent a fair amount of time under the deck on the lower level, where some of us saw a large elk who had bedded down near the house, a bear down in the woods and flocks of turkeys, chipmunks and white tail deer. The sun porch gave us another easy living space, as well as the decks, above and on the main level. We would definitely return. It was far enough out of town to have very little traffic, but not so far as to make a trip in town a "drag" for the little ones.

All in all, we loved Rivendell.
