About Susan Mathison

I have lived in Plymouth for 11 years after moving here from the beautiful Oregon Coast. My partner Steve is a second-generation Plymouth native. Between the two of us we have five kids and a growing crop of grandkids. We are involved in lots of community group and enjoy the connections we make traveling and by sharing our home with others. Between our kids, grandkids, rowing, community service, and gardening, we pack a lot of JOY into each day. We look forward to meeting you!

Why Susan Mathison chose Plymouth

Local Michael and Linda B. lovingly restored this home over the past 9 years. It came time for them to find the Doll House a new owner and, as fate would have it, they found me. Or, perhaps, the Doll House found me? I am thrilled to be able to have the responsibility to take this home on to its 100th birthday and to make it available for you to enjoy. I think you will find that it is perfect - just big enough for your visit, quiet get-away, romantic escape, or longer stay.

Comfortable and cozy

  • 5 of 5

The "Doll House" was just perfect for my vacation. Susan was warm and so very welcoming on my arrival. The house is comfortable and cozy and a great jumping off point for activities in the area; it's within walking distance to some great restaurants and less than 10 minute drive to others. I'm looking forward to staying at the "Doll House" again....perhaps a long weekend this fall!

Nostalgic and cute.

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful house with all you need in a cute, small package. Close to town and restaurants, but far enough to feel secluded. Loved the back porch! Make sure you check out the medicine cabinet ~ treasures from bygone days.

Can I move here!?

  • 5 of 5

LOVED the Doll House! Loved Plymouth! We stayed at the Doll House while visiting Plymouth State University, with my youngest daughter. What a fantastic cottage! I felt at home, it was perfect! Easily can walk into town and to the college campus. At night my husband and I would walk into town, to burn off some calories from all the good stuff we bought at Baked Cafe, in town (say YES to Carrot Cake!). The town was truly magical this time of year. There was snow, it was decorated for Christmas, I honestly think they film Hallmark Christmas movies here. It was great! Cannon Mountain wasn't too far away- I dropped off husband and daughter there on Saturday for some snowboarding. I was able to explore the area, find a covered bridge, some antique shops, and a Marshalls. Could see visiting in the spring, since hiking trails aren't too far of a drive away.

The owner is wonderful! There was small problem with the lockset (wear and tear, cold winters) and she responded to us instantly and had it fixed in no time at all. When my daughter attends Plymouth State- I hope to stay at the Doll House every chance I get to visit! Would stay here again in an instant! Will have to come back with my mom-- she fell in love with the kitchen, from the photos. This house belongs in a story book, love it!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for such a kind review! I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay! We work really hard to make the Doll House a wonderful "experience" rather than just another place to stay; we really appreciate your kind words about your stay. Thanks so much! We look forward to hosting you again soon (and best of luck to your daughter at PSU!) Safe travels and rich adventures! Susan.

Adorable and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

Cottage is very clean and is as charming as advertised. The owner provides you with lots of little personal touches and anticipates your needs as well as providing you with up-to-date local information. A variety of good restaurants are within walking distance. I wish we could've stayed longer and we do plan on staying here again.

Picture perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I absolutely LOVED the Doll House in Plymouth and would stay there again in a heartbeat. It was just as cute as the photos and had the cutest decorative touches inside. I stayed in cooler weather so did not get to enjoy the screened in porch or backyard seating areas. The small and cozy kitchen was sunny and bright and cheery and had everything I needed. The bedroom that I slept it was cute and the bed and pillows were comfortable! I found this place to be so inviting and friendly that I think my only regret is not staying for more than one night. I do want to add to my review that this is a TINY house. There's no question about that. I personally like small and cozy but I am a 5'1" female. If you were of a larger size then this is not the house for you. The stairs are also narrow and fairly steep so it was a little challenging to bring my heavy luggage upstairs. Small price to pay to enjoy such an adorable home though. I would highly recommend this home to anyone!

Owner's Response: Robin, I am so glad that you had a wonderful stay and that you loved the Doll House! Thanks so much for the wonderful review. I did want to respond to your note about if you are taller than 5'1" "then this is not the house for you". I would hate for prospective guests to think that they wouldn't enjoy a stay here if they are over 5'1"! The first floor ceilings are 8 1/2 feet tall. The second floor ceilings are at 6' 2", though the doorways are indeed several inches shorter. You are absolutely correct that this is a TINY house, which is also a great attraction to many of our guests; functional, efficient, and cute as a button! I also agree, like most tiny houses, the stairs are steeper than normal so to economize on every inch! We've had more than a thousand guests enjoy the Doll House with terrific feedback and many return guests. A tiny house indeed, but also a tiny, very livable treasure! Thanks again for your stay! I hope we'll have a chance to host you again in the future! Safe travels and rich adventures, Susan.
