About Susan Mathison

I have lived in Plymouth for 11 years after moving here from the beautiful Oregon Coast. My partner Steve is a second-generation Plymouth native. Between the two of us we have five kids and a growing crop of grandkids. We are involved in lots of community group and enjoy the connections we make traveling and by sharing our home with others. Between our kids, grandkids, rowing, community service, and gardening, we pack a lot of JOY into each day. We look forward to meeting you!

Why Susan Mathison chose Plymouth

Local Michael and Linda B. lovingly restored this home over the past 9 years. It came time for them to find the Doll House a new owner and, as fate would have it, they found me. Or, perhaps, the Doll House found me? I am thrilled to be able to have the responsibility to take this home on to its 100th birthday and to make it available for you to enjoy. I think you will find that it is perfect - just big enough for your visit, quiet get-away, romantic escape, or longer stay.

I surprised my mother with a trip to the Doll House for her 50th birthday and she literally cried tears of joy upon arrival! I really can't speak highly enough; the home is so cozy, adorable and perfectly quaint. It truly is all you need. So many cute little nooks and crannies and be sure to check out the original black and white picture of the house located up the stair case. The owner, Susan, was a pleasure to work with and was very quick to respond to any of our needs/questions. She even personalized our stay with some Happy Birthday décor. The location is adorable! The main street is 2 mins. away and has a wonderful array of local shops and restaurants. Very nice, local people.

The Doll House was so homey and truly perfect. Thank you, Susan, for making my mom's birthday so special and being so kind and welcoming. We can't wait to come back in the spring/summer!

A must visit

  • 5 of 5

Upon arriving at the doll house we were just blown away. It was absolutely adorable and in the most perfect location. Most importantly, it was very clean! I didn't realize there wasn't a TV until we got there and with the Patriots playing the final playoff game I panicked for a moment until I realized there was WiFi and I could stream it lol (moral of the story bring a tablet if you need to haha). Honestly, however if the game wasn't on I don't think I would have minded in the least and the great news is you are in walking distance from many businesses to entertain you or where you can watch sporting events. We spent most of the time in the house admiring it's history and contents to be honest and listened to some of the classical music that was provided. There is a wonderful picture of the home in the stairwell from many years ago that really displays the great history of the property. Our 2 kids (4 and 7 years old) were so excited to stay in this tiny house and were rather enamoured by it. We rented the house for our annual trip to the ice castles and it was the perfect compliment for that experience. The home is extremely well maintained and the personal little touches take it over the top such as the welcome notes, adorable seasonally appropriate decorations, candies and fruit left for the guests and all the comforts of home wrapped up in one tiny package. The most important thing to note is what my husband kept saying over and over "it's so small but you don't feel like you're missing a thing. You have everything you need." Staying here was a lovely family experience and we hope to stay again one day.

Owner's Response: Laura, Thanks so much for your kind review! We work really hard to make the Doll House an experience, rather than just a place to stay; I am so glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay! The Doll House is a special place. I am sure its walls could tell wonderful stories of 98 years sheltering its residents in a space that is "just big enough". I very much appreciate your kind review and look forward to hosting you and your family again soon! Safe travels and rich adventures, Susan

Truly a Dollhouse

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at The Dollhouse. It had everything we needed. It was cozy, clean and comfortable. It was in a great central location for day trips to the White Mountains, to Lake Winnipesaukee, and a fun visit to Simon Pearce Store. We saw some beautiful fall colors on our travels. It was walking distance to town and we had a couple of great meals at Six Burner Bistro. It's in a lovely private setting. Thanks so much for opening your house for visitors to your lovely area.

Super Cute House...Doll House is the perfect description

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in NH for the marathon. The Doll House was just big enough four our family of four. Everything was clean and “doll sized.”

We didn’t need to reach out to Susan for anything, but she was very accommodating. The house is set back away from the main streets. There are some restaurants within walking distance.

It is a very charming house and we would stay there again. We recommend this to anyone who is looking for an authentic New England experience.

Plymouth is the Gateway to the White Mountains and the Lakes Region. Ski at Loon Mountain or Waterville Valley. Hike over 1,200 miles of trails in the White Mountains, kayak on Squam Lake, or just take a scenic drive through the White Mountains on the Kancamangus Highway!
